There are 5 types of B 12

B12 (cobalamin) is a vitamin “family†with five unique family

members that each do different things: a) cyanocobalamin; B) hydroxycobalamin;

c) adenosylcobalamin; d) glutathionylcobalamin; e) methylcobalamin. Out of the

B12 family, only Methyl-B12 has the ability to activate the

methionine/homocysteine biochemical pathway directly. It is this pathway that is

responsible for the body’s entire sulfur-based detoxification system.

The most common form of dietary B12 is cyanocobalamin. This is mainly found in

meat products. This variety is found only in certain vegetable sources like

spirulina. Therefore, vegetarians are more susceptible to a dietary deficiency

of B12.While cyanocobalamin form of vitamin B12 works well to prevent anemia, it

is the methylcobalamin form that is required to maintain neurological

health.Methylcobalamin is the active co-enzyme form of B12 and is the only type

present in the brain and central nervous system required for transporting the

vitally important methyl groups to proteins in the myelin sheath surrounding

nerves. The liver naturally converts a small amount of cyanocobalamin into

methylcobalamin, but to regenerate neurons and the myelin sheath that protects

axons and peripheral nerves, higher doses of methylcobalamin are necessary.

Therefore, for healthy nervous system development additional methylcobalamin is

advocated.Most vitamin B12

(cyanocobalamin and methylcobalamin) are derived from meat products, and meat

eaters are rarely lack of dietary B12.Methylcobalamin form is crucial in the

treatment of autism. Higher dosages may be required and be given by injection.

There is no known toxicity effect.

Vitamin B12 supplements are not well absorbed orally. 94% of children have been

found to respond to Methyl-B12 therapy. Executive function is improved in 90% of

children things like awareness, cognition, appropriateness, eye contact when

called, and “just being more like a normal kid.†Speech and language is

improved in 80% of children all phases including spontaneous language, more

complex sentences, increased vocabulary, etc. Socialization and emotion is

improved in 70% of the children initiation and interactive play, understanding

and feeling emotions, possibly for the first time or to a much more normal

degree, etc.

Total dose 85% of children 64.5 mcg/kg/every 3 days works well.

35 pounds x 64.5 mcg every 3 days no less than 18 to 24 months of treatment is

the protocol. first 5 weeks of Methyl-B12 use must allow absolutely no

additions and allow absolutely no deletions to the child’s current program.

You need to order through a compounding pharmacy. I am using B-12

methylcobalamin powder Kirkman but next week we are start with the shots.

Asunto: [ ] Methylcobalamin B12 1000mcg

We found this at the health food store today and was wondering if anyone can

tell me what it's best used for and how much is recommended for a 22 month old,

35 pounds child?

Thank you in advance:)

mB12 was good here for language, social interest, OCD, and eliminating a few

stims.

I started with 500mcg but your child is younger so I would start at 250mcg.

My son (and assuming my self and my other son) all have the MTHFR gene mutation.

Methyl B12 shots have done wonders for my son in terms of auditory processing

and language (cleared a significant stuttering problem). I take 1000 mg

sublingual tablets each morning (Jarrow brand). It really helps me too. Clears

my head and gives me energy.

As far as your 22 month old, if I were you I would crush it up (assuming it is

the sublingual tablet) and stick the powder under his tongue so that it slowly

absorbs through his mouth (our kids many times are not able to absorb B12

through their intestines). You may want to give 1/2 in am and 1/2 in afternoon

to spread out the effect. I have a 26 month old I am considering doing this

with, just havent' had teh time. Anyway, I think we may be starting shots for

him too.

As with the shot, you may notice a disturbance in sleep for teh first few weeks,

but for us it was worth it to get the gains.

Thx Dana! Should I give it to him alone or with something else? Does it have any

negative effects?

For my son, mB12 required carnitine, folic acid, and B2 for proper absorption.

It increased yeast quite a bit at first, and it did cause problems until I gave

it with the supps listed above.
