Guest guest
, My son has high functioning autism & strep issues. He had his last vac. at 18 mos & he's 11. We shows trace amounts of mercury on hair tests which doesn't mean we're not retaining more. The porphryn test will show if he's retaining or excreting. I had a lot of fillings while carrying him. Even if the child has not been vaccinated he could have low levels from his environment, his mom, or even regular food. I read HFS - high fructose corn syrup can have mercury in it from the manufacturing process. And add strep issues. Kathy -  <ritzywright@...>  Re: OCD supplements for non-mercury boy? 2/20  ,  I have often wondered about mercury for my son, but all of his blood work has tested negative for both mercury and lead. In fact, while pregnant with him, I had a filling done as well as a gum abscess which was treated in the dentist office. As a child he had a direct exposure to a broken thermometer at his grandparents house, which I didn't know about until 2 years later. He had all vaccines until the last one which reacted so badly. He has severe autism; originally diagnoses with autism(atypical) but continued to regress until the diagnosis was modified. He has had OCD for many years, but he has had several bouts of strep and a lifetime of ear infections, sinus infections and antibiotics.  Does this sound like I need to seriously consider mercury, even though the tests have come up negative several times? I would like to help him if I can.  Thanks for your insight.  D. Guest guest
It is a sign. Everyone should be excreting mercury on a regular basis because we are all exposed on a regular basis. Guest guest
People with healthy immune systems excrete mercury and other toxins on a regular basis. Children with autism don't because they have dysfunctional immune systems. Posted by: " drissia wright " ritzywright@... ritzywright Sat Feb 20, 2010 6:50 pm (PST) , I have often wondered about mercury for my son, but all of his blood work has tested negative for both mercury and lead. *Blood work is useless for chronic mercury and lead toxicity. They don't stay in the blood long. The lead quickly moves into the brain and bones and the mercury goes into various organs. I talked with the pediatrician about a hair test but he felt that exposure would have been so many years ago that it would be long gone by now, especiallly in the light of not having any traces in the blood. *Hence the counting rules for the DDI hair elements test. You can order one without a doc through DLS (Direct Lab Services). If you mention this list they'll give you a discount. If you post results here we can help interpret. Mercury causes disordered mineral transport which is what the counting rules looks for. My son, now 17, has had no fillings but I have a lot. In fact, while pregnant with him, I had a filling done as well as a gum abscess which was treated in the dentist office. As a child he had a direct exposure to a broken thermometer at his grandparents house, which I didn't know about until 2 years later. He had all vaccines until the last one which reacted so badly. Does this sound like I need to seriously consider mercury, even though the tests have come up negative several times? I would like to help him if I can. *Seriously consider a DDI hair elements test. It will help you determine what you're dealing with whether mercury or other toxic metals. Thanks for your insight. Guest guest
I either cured my son of OCD or the symptoms have been dormant for about 3 years. At age 7, right after we moved to a new state, he began the " counting version " of OCD. Counting even your syllables and wanting an imaginary toggle switch to land on the 'right' at the end of each sentence or else he felt very uncomfortable. (The toggle switch he imagined toggled left-to-right with each syllable). He even would pull up his socks 7 times, alternating sides for each pull. doing this many times/day. Dozens of bizarre habits including making a beeping noise (like a censoring bleep) for 7 seconds if you said the number '4' (which he considered to be evil because he's read about that being the case in Asia). He would replace it with his 7-second bleep, right to your face. Yep. I used to tell my friend, over the phone, there goes my beeping son (she could hear him doing it in the background). With all of the strangeness of OCD, this one was comedic relief after a while. Ever find yourself laughing really hard because you're borderline feeling insane?? Yah, that kind of laughter. ANYWAY, I digress. We tried Native Remedies products and, at the time, were able to get direct advice from the doc via email. She apparently was living in Africa, but who knows. Anyway, she recommended Cognitive Behavior Therapy with play therapy ... told me to find a local child psych to do this. Then, for herbals, she recommended Mind Soothe Jr. which was really just St. 's Wort with passiflora. It helped my son's mood (after about 3 weeks of use), but did not stop the counting at all. Then, she said to take Native Remedies Nerve Tonic. His counting stopped the DAY he took it. Amazing. 6 months later she said try to take him off it. Counting came back that same day. She said try to take him off of it every 6 months. I did. It took 2 years until I could take him off of it completely. Once off of it, he started to develop a syllable tapping habit ... not counting your syllables, but really just tapping his fingers (alternating fingers on one hand) for each syllable. But, he was functional (he could hear you whereas he could not hear you if he was actually counting every syllable). So, I tried to ignore the tapping thing. Six months later, I brought him to a hypnotist, and after 2 sessions the tapping habit simply stopped and has never come back. He is obsessive about screen games (videos), but I don't know too many young boys who aren't that way. But, he is Aspie-ish, so anything goes with those hyper-focusing " skills " . He's being treated with neurofeedback and biomedical interventions and I am seeing improvements in him being able to manage his emotions better and in being more flexible, less " stuck thinking " . He also seems to need less sleep (he has always needed way more sleep than most kids his age), which to me is a sign that his body is healthier. Oh, the Nerve Tonic is at nativeremedies dot com . > > I have a friend whose 10 yo boy has bad OCD.
