Guest guest
The mouth, sinuses, and gut are all " mucus membranes " . A good quality, high brine sea salt (like Celtic sea salt) is good support for mucus membranes, can help improve gut function, and also provides some support for the immune system (like adrenals and thyroid, which are important to support for allergies or infections). You can put it in the bath and let him absorb it through the skin rather than give orally. There may be a lot of others things you will eventually have to do to resolve all this, but I would start with getting a good quality sea salt into him. Please add it as the **only** change to his routine and try to not change anything else for a week or two so you can have some idea what it is doing. It sounds like you have so many things going on that you don't really know what is doing what. Also, start at a low dose and work your way up. His system is under enough stress already without giving him a high dose of sea salt. If giving orally, do something like 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon per day. If doing in the bath, maybe something like a teaspoon to a tablespoon in the bath water. Don't raise it for at least a week. His body will need time to absorb it and begin rebuilding important systems. This is very time and energy intensive for the body. The single most common mistake I see people make with supplements/foods as a medical treatment is starting at too high a dose. Then they get a bad reaction and decide they don't tolerate it and want to discontinue it. In most cases, just lowering the dose makes them suddenly tolerate it and benefit from it. Good luck with this. Michele http://www.healthgazelle.com http://www.kidslikemine.com http://www.solanorail.com > > I am in desperate need of help. In September that all changed. He started getting sores on him mouth, teething, and drooling incessantly. One day it looked like his stool had blood in it, so I took it to his doctor for testing. The candex/acidophilus was not working, so I filled a prescription for Nystatin that his doctor had given me when he was just weeks old. That made it much better. Guest guest
I ended up switching my son at the time 9 months old to rice milk and added coconut milk for extra fat. My nt sons doctors have been amazed how well we've done with his number of allergies, we've got the record around here with our docs. I've read only 20% of those allergic to milk can tolerate goats milk. We went to rice, cheaper, easier to find and we didn't have issues. About cereal. 8 years ago, I used Gerber rice, it had soy in it. Not sure about today. But soy/peanuts are my sons worst allergens and since allergic to wheat and oats, we never got baby cereal down my son. Was strange. He was also allergic to babies first fruits, bananas and apples, so we had a very hard time with foods too, not understand or knowing about his food allergies yet. Skin testing at 9 months, explained it all. So.....I'd recommend starting out with veg, like sweet potatoes. Go a couple weeks, go slow. Peas didn't work for us, part of the soy/peanut legume family. For fruit, pears I understand don't feed the yeast, right guys? Might be a good first fruit. Seeing an allergies, might not hurt. I pumped for 9 months and my son had issues with my milk but no formula would do after breast milk. So going with those " nasty " formulas this late won't work. I'd also try adding healthy oil like olive oil to his milk. Just a splash. Good fat, good for constipation issues too. Brainchild has liquid supplements to treat with yeast that can be tasty and not hard to hide in a little juice, like pear. I hope any of this helps. Tammy [ ] Re: Yeast? Allergy? Guest guest
I thought I heard you need to be careful which sea salts you use because some contain aluminum? Have you ever heard this? Guest guest
Metagenics has a formula called ultracare for kids. Its not intended as a formula, but it is rice based and can surely help in a situation like this. Peezs me off that choices in formulas all pretty much contain allergens.. or digested allergens. You can also add to this to make it a more complete formula as well (coconut oil, sunflower oil, palm oil, CLO, probiotics, some rice syrup and gelatin). I would give that a go as well, as I agree with Tammy that goat milk is still an issue for many dairy allergic kids. Weston Price also has a liver based formula recipe out there.. and maybe the base could be broth? Try to clear all the reactions first, then add stuff in very slowly. I agree, pears is probably not a bad place to start. How about avocado? It is considered a pretty complete food too. Meats? You can add enzymes to the meals to help out with the digestion as well. Good Luck. Allergies are tough. From: Tammy Kuhn Sent: Friday, December 17, 2010 7:50 AM Subject: Re: [ ] Re: Yeast? Allergy? Mercury? Guest guest
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU all for these suggestions. This is exactly the kinds of responses I was looking for. I am going to thoroughly go through all the information given and I will keep you updated on our progress. THis morning he is much better and is seems the thrush is getting better, again. I am giving him candex 1/3 capsule AM and PM as well as acidophilus in every bottle. I am highly considering an allergist appointment, but the good news is that I finally got a call back from a nutritionist I have been trying to get ahold of. He does nutritional resonse testing and is a friend of a friend. He thinks he can help us and I am anxiously awaiting our first appointment. Thanks again for these replies!! ~
Guest guest
I have not heard that. Celtic sea salt was recommended to me by a member of this list some years back who had heavily researched sea salt brands. So that was the first one I tried. It did wonders for me. I have tried several others since then. The only one that comes even close is McCormick's French Grey, which is not quite as good and is lots more expensive. I basically buy it for two reasons: It comes in a small metal tin, so I keep one in my desk at work, and if I am really running out of Celtic, I will sometimes pick up French Grey while waiting for my Celtic to arrive via UPS to make sure I don't run out. Most of the brands of sea salt I have tried weren't much different from " kosher " or " canning and pickling " salt. In other words, they lacked the anti-caking agents and other additives that I have issues with but they were basically just sodium chloride whereas Celtic is a mix of 80-some-odds micronutrients found naturally in sea water. Guest guest
Can I ask where you like to order your salt from? I think this might be something worth trying for my son. Guest guest
http://www.celticseasalt.com/ -- Same thing listed on a couple of my websites. I would start at a spoonful or so of salt in the bath. When I first began adding sea salt to my bath, I felt really hot afterwards, especially so if I added more than normal.
