Based on my experience with my son, the body will eliminate the excess, but during the time it takes for the body to eliminate the excess, they can cause problems. Even water soluble vitamins caused problems here, until the excess was excreted. >>Is there a good test on what / how much needs to be given? I learned by observing my son's [and my own] reactions. Guest guest
All water soluble vitamins and minerals are simply discharged in the urine if you give extra, some through the bowels. That's why extra magnesium can loosen the stool, it is just the body's way of getting rid of extra magnesium. The only ones you need to watch out for are fat soluble vitamins, because they will be stored in the fat cells and will take longer to flush out and if given in huge quantities can lead to a toxic level. Megadoses of vitamins A, D, E or K can be toxic and lead to health problems. B-Complex and C are water soluble.
