Special considerations for copper toxicity?

My daughter's hair test showed high levels of mercury, copper, and uranium. I

thought I remembered from AI that there were special considerations for those

with copper toxicity. Is this right? We are about to start round 5 of 12.5 mg

each of DMSA and ALA. My daughter takes most of the supplements except for B

vitamins because they have always increased her yeast symptoms. Just want to

make sure I'm doing everything right as far as chelation is concerned. Is there

anything else I should be giving her?

Thanks,

Emerson

It all depends on how high is high for copper. I would add molybdenum and up

the zinc (make sure you are giving it several times a day) to help with the

copper load. If the copper is really at the toxic levels, you can do every

other round with ALA? ALA is the chelator that further interferes with copper

excretion.

Help liver function with milk thistle since ALA is excreted via bile. Avoid

copper loaded foods (nuts are a big one).

I think if copper is above 50 on a DDI hair test (above 98%) you are looking at

a real copper problem. This is a DDI test, yes?

Emerson,

Just to add to my first reply: my son had a great copper:zinc imbalance (this

was blood test) and elevated hair copper. Not to the point of toxicity, but it

was problematic.

It took several months of molybdenum (I used Allergy Resource Group liquid

molybdenum; about 3 drops with each meal) and zinc supplementation to bring the

levels down. It does not happen overnight, and might take longer if you

continue to use the ALA while working to get the copper down.

Another option is to dump the ALA completely for a few months to see if you can

get the copper down faster.

I had very high copper levels several months ago, but my latest analysis came

back fine. I used B vitamins (B6 is good) and zinc.

My daughter's level of copper is 54, which is a toxic level. How long should I

wait before I can add ALA again? Will symptoms improve? Do I need to do another

hair test? How will I know? I'm disappointed about stopping the ALA now since

that's what gets mercury out of the brain, but if that's what's best I will do

it, of course.

Found out the hard way that it is possible for copper toxicity to come from the

pipes in an older home. Check and make sure your pipes are not copper. If they

are, don't drink the water.

You actually don't HAVE to stop ALA. You could reduce the dose and do every

other weekend while you are working to get the copper levels down with

supplements and exposure eliminations.

I believe low thyroid hormones also can affect copper excretion.

Do another hair test in 3-4 months.

Andy says in Amalgam Illness that if your using another chelator with the ala

such as dmsa you do not have to worry about the ala causing more copper

retention. This is only a concern for ala only chelation or people use ala only

more than half the time.

If the test met counting rules the copper level is not reliable anyway and

should be verified by blood labs before assuming copper toxicity.
