Guest guest
iodine used to be the treatment of choice for hyperthyroidism and IMO the illness is caused by severe iodine deficiency. I wish I had been given iodine as a hypo child and then I wouldn't have gone on to have hyperthyroidism and partial thyroidectomy--30 years lost b/c of no meds and low TSH. I hope you will reconsider substituting herbs for iodine for your son so he can have a healthy future. Gracia I have yet to use Iodine on hyper my son has graves disease. We have been treating with herbs and such. All but one number is now in range. If things get bad again I know the Iodine is there. But I am not going to use it now with all the numbers in range. We test numbers every two months. I have a friend coming out of BC treatment and she's been dx hyperthyroid which apparently puts her at greater risk of recurrence. I think iodine is highly protective for BC, but she is reluctant to take due to hyper. Thanks for any insights. BarbF A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps! Guest guest
Hi Jake, What exactly did he mean by “hyperthyroid condition”? Please be specific about his symptoms, testing etc. that showed this. What other supplements was he taking, in what amounts, with the iodine? It could be detox or various other things, not really hyperthyroid. Donna in IL Hi, A guy I've known for some years reported that after supplementing with Iodoral at 12.5 mg daily for about two months, he developed a hyperthyroid condition. This was kind of unsettling, since it was neither a high dosage, nor a long time. What are the cause and effect nuts and bolts of this? Thanks, Jake
Guest guest
How was your friend diagnosed with hyperthyroidism? If it was just the way he felt then it could be adrenal related which is common with detoxing. If it was labs, then I would be interested in what lab determined it - TSH only? Every allopathic doc would call me hyper - and my children as well because our TSH values are suppressed (less than 0.01). But we are not. Guest guest
I say this..i have been on 50 mg for about 5 months..and i was taking 1.5 grains of NT...but the last month i have had to reduce my NT to 1 grain due to feeling hyper..but i am hoping this lasts and was not due to adrenal etc thinking maybe the iodine has helped heal my thryoid so it could do its job better.. Guest guest
, I was hyper for a while and it was really horrible.. but if you have no symptoms it may well be worth trying to find out the cause of the hyperthyroidism rather than just masking the problem with carbimazole. Have a look at old posts on this forum.. Tess has had a merry old time with carbimazole. (Go to the messages and put carbimazole in the search box.) Have you been tested for thyroid antibodies? If these are high the thyroid can put out extra hormones, rendering you hyperthyroid before it is overwhelmed and you become hypo. Do you have any other test results? . > > Just been diagnoised with hyperthyroidism. Greatly concerned as the Drs just want me on Beta Blockers and the drug Carbimazole 20mg. Guest guest
Hi , I`d ask for a scan, did they test for antibodies and FT3 when they did your blood? I found info a few months ago stating that Carbimazole can make a goiter worse, I`m trying to find it again and will post it for you. Guest guest
Hi again , I can`t find that link I had it saved on my old pc but it def said carbimazole/methimazole can make swelling worse. The other thing is did your docs explain all the things you have to look out for when taking anti thyroid drugs, mine didn`t when I started them and its been a nightmare! eg: sore throat, infections need to be seen right away, liver function, blood counts, tft`s need to be monitored monthly (I`d say every 2 wks). If I had my time again I wouldn`t start them unless very symptomatic of hyper and I`d gathered every bit of info possible on both blood and a scan result. Obviously everyone is different but think long and hard, the beta blockers will help not only your heart but it helps thyroid as well (sorry brain fog so can`t remember exactly how) I very quickly went hypo the 1st time on carb and we all know how hard that is to be diagnosed. Google carbimazole/methimazole and I`ve posted quite a few times on here (actually that link might be here as well). Best of luck Tess > > > > > Just been diagnoised with hyperthyroidism. > > Greatly concerned as the Drs just want me on Beta Blockers and the drug Carbimazole 20mg. >
Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the forum. It's better to try to control the excessive production by drugs in a reversible way at first, rather that go straight to either radioactive ablation or surgical removal- as then you are plunged instantly into hypothyroidism- which may not be as easy to control as the docs make out- otherwise most of us wouldn't be here. > thyroid treatment > From: ginamurray91@...> Date: Thu, 25 Mar 2010 12:13:22 +0000> Subject: Hyperthyroidism> > Just been diagnoised with hyperthyroidism. Guest guest
Hi / Tess Betablockers work by reducing the efficiency of conversion of T4 to T3 which is the active thyroid hormone. If you have high T4 levels and can't convert to T3 then the resulting low T3 levels shoud mean you are relatively symptom free. > thyroid treatment > From: tessfleming@... the beta blockers will help not only your heart but it> helps thyroid as well (sorry brain fog so can`t remember exactly how)> I very quickly went hypo the 1st time on carb and we all know how> hard that is to be diagnosed.> Google carbimazole/methimazole and I`ve posted quite a few times on> here (actually that link might be here as well).> > Best of luck> > Tess> > >> > > > > ------------------------------------> > TPA is not medically qualified. Guest guest
HI, This is just a shot in the dark - don't know if it will help any but I will try. When I had a severe hyperactive thyroid it turned out to be caused by metal poisoning - which is almost never tested for. Perhaps yours could be also. Did they say the cause of it? I think this is the case more often than realized since it is almost never tested for. I took chelation, a natural suppliment, which eliminates metal from the body. Since most of us have too high of levels anyway, it won't do any harm. Also declogs the arteries. I just started out with low dosages at first as detoxing can make you tired, but at the same time is a strong indication that it is needed. Hope this might help. Guest guest
My son's T3 came out to be 164.8 on his Endocrinology blood report. His T4 is 9.5 and TSH is 1.58. His symptoms are lot of sweating especially during sleep, Heart Racing, Irritability, Nervousness and Anxiety, Hyperactivity and severe constipation. Does it means he is suffering from hyperthyroidism? What else could it be? He is on GFCF diet. Regards, Sajeel
