Guest guest
It would be useful for people to purchase the book by Dr. L Wood, titled, " Your Thyroid " . It is inexpensive and in paperback. Also, you can get lots of free info (brochures, etc).from the Thyroid Foundation 1-800-THYROID. And of course the internet has lots of good stuff, as well. (including AOL's Better Health web page). Esther ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guest guest
Hi Joan and Everybody, My eye had been twitching too. In fact I was SURE that I was going HYPER cause my eyes felt bulgy etc.. Turns out, after I went to the Eye Doctor (not eye glasses doctor) that I was fine. HOWEVER, I had macular fatigue. Twitching can very much be caused by Anxiety and lack of sleep, too much stress. I went home and I rested more FORCED myself to nap and sleep -- viola! Within a day the twitching stopped. I think we get so high strung and push ourselves (also too much computer time) that we forget that stress can injure us. If you add rest and time to think to your life, it will assist these supplements in their job of repairing our ravished bodies. --Kathleen (who is off to her first vacation in four years) In a message dated 7/23/99 1:47:21 AM Eastern Daylight Time, BU007@... writes: << Subj: Re: Hyperthyroidism Date: 7/23/99 1:47:21 AM Eastern Daylight Time From: BU007@... Guest guest
Dear and group: One of things that you told me to do regarding zinc was to start out small with approx. 5 mgs. However, I have been trying to find a place that sells it in that small of a quantity and I haven't been able to. Do you have any suggestions? Also, I have been starting to exercise again which I do in my own home with videos, treadmill, weights, etc. The exercise videos that I have increase my heart rate way too high when I follow them. I was wondering if anyone knows of any that are a good workout but are intended more for toning than cardiovascular? I'd appreciate any suggestions, thanks
Guest guest
, Yes weight training is perfect for toning you can start with dumbbells and go at your own pace and when you get going to fast you can rest in between sets this can also be done at home.. I have been doing this for the last year with good results I have lost fat and gained muscle, something I thought I could not do! Raven I also noticed that my heart rate has gone down alittle and when I rest it is more restful Ladrisczilla@... wrote: Dear and group: One of things that you told me to do regarding zinc was to start out small with approx. 5 mgs. Guest guest
Dear , Re your query re exercise videos during recovery: When I had Graves Disease, I could barely stand up, but, like you, I did not want to lose muscle tone (I also missed only 1 day at work--we can do so much when we're motivated!). I found a video entitled " Getting Better, " with Margaret , which she had made after her own foot surgery and subtitled, " If you can't stand to exercise! " I found this a Godsend, as I did it sitting/lying down. I couldn't lift the amount of weight I had when I was well, but at least I didn't lose too much muscle tone during my illness. I called the tape, " Weight training for invalids, " and it definitely served the purpose. Plus, it's actually a good tape--she's very personable and cheery (and is 50 years old and looks FABULOUS). Her videos can be ordered through the Body Electric company--the number on the box is 1-800-788-5865. The tape is from 1996, so if that number has changed, call the " 800 " directory to obtain the current number. Another way to get the video, and other excellent videos that will meet your needs, is through the catalogue, " The Complete Guide to Exercise Videos, " which you can order through 1-800-433-6769; they also have a Web site: www.collagevideo.com. I order lots of videos through them--they review them all, so they're a good resource. Good luck, Joan
Guest guest
Hello, That soreness in the back of the throat is from the tapizol. Its a kind of relay nasty taste I use to get it when I worked outside went it is over 80 degrees or when I worked relay hard. the only way I found to get rid of it was to stop the tapizol. I did that gradually over a six month period. I have been off tapizol for two and a half years now with no taste in the back of mt throat. Guest guest
I have also experienced pain in my neck when excercising. I think that is not a good sign. Perhaps the increase in metabolism heart rate is stimulating the thyroid, or perhaps you have a nodule which is causing discomfort. At any rate, listen to your body. Perhaps walking is the best excercise for people with thyroid problems who have the symptoms you mentioned. Esther
Guest guest
Hi everyone, have you heard of the exercise for the thyroid? It is like a form of head stand, which would be the best way of doing it, but for most of us, a little hard to do... The position I am talking about is called THe Bridge, it is a Yoga move... You lay on the floor, bring knees close to your butt, entwine your fingers under your seat, and slowly come up onto your shoulders by wiggling back and forth on each shoulder, with your chin to your chest, until you are as far as you can get.. Then you lift your thighs up and keep your knees a few inches apart... it is a very good Yoga exercise and it does help the thyroid... I'm sure you could find the exact instructions for this , or email me, and I will find the exact wording for it.. I usually do this one and also lift my butt up off the floor, supporting it with my hands, and try to get my legs out over my head, bent knees or straight, back over my head, while lying on my back on the floor, with chin to chest.. these moves help to stimulate the under active thyroid.... Guest guest
Hello, Well I don't really know but I don't think it is as bad as it use to be. I have had graves four five and a half years this december and have been off all prescription drugs for three and a half years. I am not 100% better but I am better the supplements that suggest help allot but still we are missing something. When the doctors gave me my options I found that I had none. Thyroid problems use to be more common than cancer until the last ten years then cancer took over.. I can't understand why there has not been more research done. They found a cheap cure I guess and stopped. I have not had RAI I could not do that to myself and surgery was to much money and everything I read said it would go away or burn itself out nether has happened but it's not as bothersome as it was. I have gained the muscle I lost and the weight I lost, I have adapted but I am still not 100%. Remission maybe half way but that's it my heart rate is down and the heat is less bothersome but things like splitting wood or working in the sun still have to be avoided or done slowly or when its cooler. I have used herbs like melitonin, valerian root, kava kava, skullcap, mothers wort, catnip, chamomile, black cohosh, passion flower, bugle weed these help a little they are all sedatives and help to calm you down but you can't take them all the time. This board is here to tell each other what we have found to work or help us feel better and to share the things we have learned so keep looking and go through the back log for more info or e-mail at B007@aol .com for the supplement list and see what works for you and let us know how it goes. Guest guest
hi everyone, Joyce in Vermont. Was at Dartmouth Medical Center today for a second opinion consult with a very respected Endo specialist. He said I have a small nodule in front of the thyroid, but that it doesn't feel like much. I don't know he can tell by just fingering my throat like that, but what do I know. I have been off all 's suggested supplements for two months, I thought I was going to get an MRI today. Guess again. My heart hurts so much. Don't know why. It just aches from the time I wake up and all day, at least today. OTher times the ache comes and goes, but today I REALLY feel, it and if it is this sore tonight, I will not be able to sleep. If anyone has this symptom, I am supposedly not hyper but hypo, please advise. Guest guest
Re getting off Tapezol: I had Graves, have been off Tapezol for 2 1/2 years, am fine, and DID NOT HAVE RAI. DO NOT HAVE THIS DESTRUCTIVE PROCEDURE! Ask for a supplement list, or go to the archives. Stay on the Tapezol for now if it gives you no destructive side effects, and work with your body naturally. Guest guest
If Hyperthyroidism is not treated it can cause serious problems like an irregular heartbeat (atriel fillibration??) which is a serious matter.. I understand Bush Sr. had this when he was first diagnosed with Graves. If you treat it and keep the heart rate normal, I believe you should be OK. I recently had a stress test and all was well with my heart and arteries. (thank goodness) And I am in my late 50's and have hyperthyroidism for five years. Guest guest
Hi Kathy, I don't know if Thyroid disease causes heart disease. the Dartmouth Endo specialist thinks something else is compromising my thyroid. He was very interested in the Selenium, and how my body reacted to it. It felt as if someone had run a river through my blood stream. My heart is hurting less this week, but then I seem to be fighting a bad cold, spent hours in steam room and sauna this week trying to purge it from my system with no success. Of course, I am hoping it is a " healing " cold that sustains itself as long as necessary. Sure is spewing forth a lot of mucus. Sure hope it is signaling remission. Althought I have been off the supplements since late July, I still feel the effects, which is a very positive sign. I have a lot of pitting edema and starting taking potassium last week, under 's suggestion, and noticed the dark undereye circles seemed to lighten up a bit, at least for a few days. I am hoping this is due to the potassium. Am eager to go back on supplements with the potassiium to see what occurs. You know, I started the supplements last October, just a few and then gradually added them to include all the ones recommended for Hypos by May. After fifteen years of struggling with this illness, these supplements have been the ONLY thing that have worked for me. I am so grateful for 's research. I am not there yet, but I sure am better. Guest guest
Bonner, Toxic goiter is another term for Graves' disease. Graves' disease, left untreated, eventually goes into remission spontaneously at a rate of 10% to 25% each year (Postgraduate Medicine, Oct 99). PTU reduces your symptoms until you go into spontaneous remission at which time the drug is weaned.
