Guest guest
Years ago, I would have just taken the abx script and and taken it, like a good girl. Now the thought, after a year of detoxing, candida killing, yada yada, the thought of taking abx for 5 days nearly brought me to tears. The doc confirmed I have an EI and to make matters worse, I am flying Tuesday, and need to have some relief by then. The kicker is that it is behind the membrane, and the doc didn't think that anything in ear would cure the infection. I have the following things in my house - Garlic, olive oil, artemisia & clove, OoO, GSE, white vinegar, peroxide, iodine and kids herbal ear drops. What can I do to make this go away? Or do I really just need to suck it up, take the abx, and high dose with biotin and probiotics? -- ------------------------------------------- J. Guest guest
Try the peroxide first (in the ear). it might not even be bacterial.then ramp up all your natural antimicrobials and probiotics (not at the same time mind you) and see if you feel any relief. you don't need to take the anti-b's yet.. you have until Tuesday when you fly.. see if those things help before the weekend. Good Luck!! Also, an olive oil base with infused garlic dropped into the ear as well is helpful. Abx for ear infections are often over prescribed and research shows that they usually do not clear an infection faster than watchful waiting (infections are often viral which abx do not work for). If after 3-4 days, and symptoms do not clear - then try the Rx (with probiotics of course). Also if you have a chiropractor then go in for an adjustment and/or endonasal technique if they do that. It helps to drain the inner ear. Good Luck, Dr. Sara Croteau
Guest guest
I just went through the same thing, with a sinus infection added to the mix. I was so miserable one night I couldn't even put my head on a pillow. I stayed up all night and watched bad movies like " Conquest of the Planet of the Apes " . It made me understand why toddlers act so miserable when they have an EI. I took the abx. I was supposed to fly the following morning out to Keystone for a weekend of skiing. It was the first abx I've taken since 2001 when I had a UTI after the birth of my ASD child. I am on Day 7. I'm taking my son's Theralac (probiotics), too. The amount of relief I felt in the first 24 hours is totally worth taking abx for 10 days. Sometimes you need to accept the role of medicine in our lives. Mind you, 2 weeks ago I would have said do everything 'naturally' to alleviate the pain before you resort to prescriptions. Funny how living the actual experience changes your perceptions! Take care. At my house, ear infections were caused by yeast overgrowth, and biotin and GSE eliminated them. If it was bacterial, I would use OLE. Guest guest
When I get an ear infection or my son does, I give/take oil of oregano and GSE internally. We'll take it at least 3x's a day initially and then you can reduce as needed. You can also crush a fresh garlic clove in some warm olive oil for about 15-20 minutes, strain the garlic out and put the warm oil in your ear with a very warm compress externally (warmed washcloth works well) and lie down for at least 15-30 minutes. Using heat on it helps get swelling down and hopefully will allow the infection to drain and the ear to clear. Good Luck

At my house, yes. Sometimes even quicker. Dana
Guest guest
Ear infections can be interelated with sinus infections. When I have one, I treat my sinuses as well. Topical stuff *can* get into the inner ear. You just need to lay on your side and let it soak in for at least 15 minutes and up to 40 minutes. An easy way to do this is to keep whatever topical treatment you are using on your nightstand and put drops in at bedtime and lay on your side. I have done this for years because of a life-long history of ear issues related to my genetic disorder. I habitually wake up in the middle of the night, role over, and treat the other ear. (I keep tissues at hand to wipe up the drainage from one ear before rolling over to do the other ear.) My ears are slowly improving. You might find that an ear wax cleaning kit will do wonders to clean out the ear and knock back the infection to a level where it can be effectively treated with natural remedies. Sinus irrigation can also clean out a backlog of crud and make an infection more treatable. The eyes, ears, nose, throat and mouth are all interconnected. When faced with a serious issue, I clean them all: Brush, floss, gargle, irrigate my sinuses, clean out my ears. Then take some medicinal herbs after the entire area has been cleaned. I am currently taking olive leaf extract and wild yam, supplemented by eating spicy foods, for a combined sinus and ear infection. I took somewhere between 8 and 12 pills of OLE the first day, spaced out over the course of the afternoon and evening, and have been taking 2-3 more pills at a time, 2-3 times a day, since then. It is nearly gone and was substantially better within 48 hours. There is some general info on ear infections here: http://healthgazelle.com/earache.shtml Good luck with this.
