Sudden paleness & lips turning white after a minor injury

I wanted to ask the group about an explanation for something that happened to my

DS this afternoon.

DS cut his hand by falling onto one of his toys and started complaining mildly

that it hurt (very minor injury). Then he noticed that he had a cut (about 1 cm)

& was bleeding and he freaked out! He started crying & got really upset and

worried that he would have to go to the hospital for stitches!

DH & I reassured him that it was a minor cut & no problem at all, that he

wouldn't need to go to the hospital but I noticed that he got VERY pale suddenly

and his lips were totally white. I put a bandaid on him and reassured him some

more but he went to lie down and noticed that he was sweaty, especially on his

head. The colour returned to his lips after about 3 minutes but he seemed really

knocked out by the scare and almost fell asleep afterwards.

Does anyone know if this response is related to a lack of cortisol production

during stress or injury?

Thanks in advance,
