Sorry to hear it. My son did that when he was taking Lexapro, an antidepressant.

He actually ended up pulled out all of his eyelashes and half of his eyebrows.

The pediatrician said it was just the Autism, but when we stopped the

medication, the behavior ceased.

My ASD son has never done this ... but I have !!

Well, not the lashes, but the brows.

And if I recall correctly I generally did it as a muscular distraction for sore

or tired eyes. This generally coincided for me when I was run down and not

sleeping well.

Hope it helps

He sleeps pretty well, but he could be tired or stressed. He doesn't

actually pull the lashes out.. He just likes to pull the lid away from his

eye.. I don't know if that matters.

Hi,

Just wanted to chime in and tell you that my best friend's NT pre-teen did this

last year, and we finally figured out that it was stress-related for her.  She

was being bullied at school :(  Once the 'stressor' was removed, she stopped

pulling her eyelashes out.

One other thought...maybe totally off-base, but do you think your son's eyes

could be dry seondary to cold air and wind outdoors, and warm heat indoors?  I

wonder if the heat is causing his eyes irritation?  Maybe a vaporizer would

help...just a thought.

Blessings,

~Robin

Oh man I just feel bad.. It does seem like his eyes are bothering him. I

don't think its school, because he was doing it over the Christmas holiday.

I hope he doesn't feel lots of stress at home. We try to make it a warm and

friendly place where he is accepted and can be himself.

He recently started it.. but I don't know why.

while look'g into other answers given...a " quick easy " to try is a wipe-down

with coffee (cold is fine, more important is strong) & see if that helps...works

here for most eye itchy/bugging ya type of stuff. elizabeth

I did this myself. I figured out that it was caused by yeast overgrowth in and

near my eyes.

Pulling eyelashes is called trichotillomanie. I am sure if you search for

trichotillomanie on Google, you'll find out if there is somethinh to do about

it.

How did you know it was yeast?

During the time that I was doing this, eventually I developed another issue

which was obviously a yeast issue. When I took GSE, both the other issue and

the desire to pull my eyelashes disappeared. Then when the eyelash thing came

up again, I took GSE and it went away.

Maybe his eyes were extra tired and/or he's blinking less than usual so they're

dry. I noticed that my eyes were quite tired after playing wii fit and DS

bookworm while visiting family.

Also might it not be a vit a defiencey? Dry eyes are also a symptom of systemic

diseases such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, ocular rosacea or Sjogren's

syndrome (a triad of dry eyes, dry mouth and rheumatoid arthritis or lupus) I

believe those are often associated with Vit A deficiency?

I do this when my eyes are itchy from allergies (you said he was pulling his lid

away from the eye). Could there be a new allergen in the house? Visiting a

friend with a cat or something?

Nothing new.. but he does seem to still have allergies because he has

circles under his eyes and I can't figure out what is causing them.
