Guest guest
Hi Kendra, Your post caught my eye because of knee issues. Ellen had also posted one time about using stephania (and artemisinin) for the knees. I went to the Vitamin Research Products website to look up the " Inflammation Control " product you mentioned. I see the ingredients are " Stephania tetrandra " and " Luteolin (from Perilla frutescens leaf). " The " Cautions " link brings up this info: " A strong inflammatory response is essential for a healthy immune response to infection, so this product should not be used by anyone suffering an acute or chronic infections condition, unless such use is directed by your physician. " This caution brought up the following questions for me… Does this product reduces inflammation by suppressing the immune system? If so, which of the two ingredient(s) may do this? On page 145 in Healing Lyme, Buhner writes: " Stephania species… are also specific for inflammations that have an autoimmune dynamic such as rheumatoid arthritis. " Does this mean that Stephania counteracts an autoimmune/hyper response by suppressing the immune system? I hold Buhner's recommendations in high regard, and am assuming he looked at the info that was on the VR site. If there is an issue with the above product suppressing the immune system, maybe it is countered by the other herbs in the core protocol which boost and/or modulate the immune system (?). Stephania is part of the " extended " protocol, and Buhner writes on page 76 that it " uses the core protocol as its central feature. " I think these are important questions to consider before starting any herb (and there is much info about both contraindications and benefits of Stephania in Healing Lyme). I am keeping this product under consideration, and am grateful you posted the info about it. If anyone should have any more insight on this, please post. I'm now wondering how other products (like Wobenzyme tabs, which I am also considering using) reduce inflammation and if they do it without suppressing the immune system. I will ask my naturopath this question at my upcoming appointment, and also about Stephania, and post any info I think may be helpful.
