Guest guest
Hi Dabs, I really shouldn't have mentioned Geri Fosseen's passing, little is known of what caused it, if an autopsy was done, I have not heard the results. Does anyone else on the list know? From what I did hear just after she died several months ago, she had complications with her liver, she had been sick for a very long time and took many pain meds. Now this is heresay......so please understand that. She was very active in the Lyme community when I first became involved. If you want to read about her passing I found that there were 17 posts with her name on deja news, here is the website: http://www.deja.com/qs.xp?ST=PS & QRY= & defaultOp=AND & DBS=1 & OP=dnquery.xp & LNG=A LL & subjects=Geri+Fosseen & groups=sci.med.diseases.lyme & authors= & fromdate= & tod ate= & showsort=score & maxhits=25 I would say that death from Lyme disease is very uncommon, her's was the first natural death I had heard of, I had heard of several suicides related to Lyme. None of the people who committed suicide were active in any of the support forums that I knew of. I really think that was an important factor. I am so glad you are on Prozac, do you see an improvement? I would be a wreck without my Paxil. I tried cutting back around the time of my great no-abx experiment, but quickly resumed the 30mg dosage when I felt bad. You ask about long term prognosis, and how you can expect to feel, that is really hard to answer. I can only answer from my own experience, I am at least 50% better than I was in my first year of Lyme and treatment. I am not bedridden, and I do function but not at normal speed. Don't give up, you will get better, it takes time and determination and good meds too. Guest guest
I just found out the website I listed for deja news did not work, sorry about that. Here is the most relevant posting I could find. Subject: Update On Questions about Geri Date: 1999/05/08 Author: dporter@... < " dporter@... " > Posting History Hello friends, I just returned from Iowa having said Good-bye to my friend, well partially, as her spirit is still with many of us who knew her. I have returned home with understandable sadness, but also with peace and invigoration to return to do my part with Lyme disease advocacy. I am really comforted but also reawakened to the concerns and caring for her and the Lyme community. I will try to answer the many questions people have both here and in email. I want to let you folks know that information that is more personal (circumstances of death, etc.) as well as positive education, media attention and advocacy will be forthcoming. However, it may take some time. Information is still not complete and many medical and other issues are still of a sensitive nature and/or I'm not at liberty to say at this moment. I did want to share a few things though, that in part address some of the many questions asked. Her obituary does reflect the seriousness of this disease. In the Des Moines Register, May 7, 1999 it reads in part: Geri Fosseen, 30, of Radcliffe died of complications of Lyme disease... Secondly, I want to say that unlike the suffering she had with this illness, her passing away was swift. I mentioned (as I understand it) her kidneys and liver failed and she had severe thrombocytopenia (low platelets). Other than that her medical situation is complicated, she was off IV antibiotics for a month and at the end her heart failed. It just stopped beating. As a side note, I have to comment on my 'curiosity' with Lyme disease patients that have died and their death is attributed to heart failure. I'm not saying this is the case here (I don't know yet) but many times I have read or heard of this. As many people know, cardiac problems are touted to be rare and an early manifestation of the disease. I guess as time goes on and the facts are known, some conclusions can be made from this and/or what causes this to happen. Lastly, for now I was asked for a place to send sympathy cards too. Since the names and towns are a matter of public record I feel comfortable providing the following information. Spouse: Fosseen 24101 County Hwy S 21 Radclife IA 50230 Parents & Grandmother: - send in c/o above address. Judy & Teitelbaum, Grandmother - lie Greenberg PS - I am sorry for others who are grieving whom are not acknowledged. Guest guest
Hi , I know from hearsay that she had it for a long time. It still has not been totally established what the cause of death is, so please don't speculate and frighten yourself to death. It is a real tragedy, but we don't know all the details. Guest guest
Hi and Marta, I was talking to my friend who is a Nurses Aide and she was reading a brochure on Lyme. It said that the complications from Lyme 'can' be fatal. But I wouldn't worry. Because complications from a lot of illnesses can be fatal (i.e. pnemonea (sp?) etc..). However, I don't think that it is often that death from Lyme happens. === Have a Great Day! Rev.
