Guest guest
Ingredients: 1 1/3 cup chopped ginger 8 sticks cinnamon (3 " ) 1/2 heaping TBSP black pepper corns 1 level tsp whole cloves 1 1/2 level TBSP green cardamon pods a small 1/2 palm-full black tea like English breakfast or jasmine or 3 tea bags. recipe: (also see my comments below) Bring to boil 1 gal + 1/2 qt Spring or good water. When at boil add all ingredients except tea. The mixture will stop boiling. Keep the heat on high until it boils again, then lower heat to a very slow rolling boil. Cover. Boil for 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours. Remove from flame and let sit for 1 1/2 hours at least, but not more than 3 hours. Strain the spices out. Throw in the tea leaves, bring up to heat and steep for 10 minutes, stirring as you like. Strain the tea out. Mix with whole raw milk, 50-50, or stronger. [Good for removing caffein addiction. Wards off colds and flu.] My comments: This is the official recipe. My yogi friend does it differently and I follow her: I boil for 4 hours. Then let sit for 8 hours, or overnight. I omit the tea leaves, altho some say that is an integral part. I mix with low-fat (not raw) milk, I don't do it 50-50. Do it to taste. For sweetener we use maple syrup or molasses. {Try it as is first.} I used to use organic spices from the health food store, until I realized they cost about 4 times the non-organic, so I now buy my spices non-organic from Indian store. There is a real difference if you use organic or not ginger. When I can afford it I use organic.
