Don't worry ,

I get the fevers at least once a month for about a week, in the late

afternoon or evening, even off abx's. In fact, I think I get them more often

when I'm off the abx's. I don't try to figure anything out with this disease

anymore, just share experiences. This is a common symptom of Lyme. My

opinion is that the fevers mean you still have the Bb in your system (or

co-infection) and your body's natural response while trying to kill it, is a

fever. Why only in some of us, and why some only in the afternoon, or

different, I don't know. Except to say, Lyme acts and affects us all

differently. Guess it depends on your immune system's strength before you

got Lyme, and/or the strain of Lyme you have, and whether or not you have

co-infections, and other auto-immune disorders. Like me, I already had

Hypothyroid, Anemia (but got much worse since Lyme), and controlled my

Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) with diet. So my immune system was already

dealing with quite a lot, albeit, minor disorders, but still probably had

something to do with how sick I got/am with Lyme. Don't worry too much about

the fevers, but do mention them to your doctor next visit, so he can

document it. And remember heat at a particular temp kills the Bb, and that

is why I think the fever is your body's natural defense, or part of it. Take

It is true that low graded fevers are indicative of the body's struggling

with the foreign invaders.. but whenever I had the fevers, I ended up having

accidents cuz the body coordination, vertigo, and brain fog would get so

bad.. I have ended up in ER several times..and gone to see the dr other

times.. Now that the antibiotics are taking of the fevers, I don't have to go

to ER and face that dr who asked me if I am accident prone!! lol

Quick comment here, I recall taking my son to the pediatrician years ago,

concerned about his fevers. The doctor told me " A fever is a wonderful

thing....it is the body's way to fight infection naturally " True, we don't

want it to get too high, that's a given, but I sure do envy you guys who are

having fevers, because even after 28 days of IV, and feeling so sick and

clammy, feeling like I must have a temp, and alas, the thermometer always

reads normal. I have no doubt I am still loaded with Bb, but I think my

immune system has just given up the fight.

Hi ,

You are right the coordination problems, vertigo and brain fog, when

accompanied by fevers are your body's way of telling you, you are mighty

sick and should stay in bed. I am glad the abx are helping you combat the

fevers, but for myself personally, I just wish I would really have a fever

when I feel like I do, and supposedly the heat generated from said fevers

will help kill off those nasty chetes.

other times I don't notice it as much. Why is it that some of us have this

fever and others run low??? Does this mean that our immune systems are

fighting the ketes just as they would a virus? Or could there be some kind

I used to have low grade fevers when I was not on antibiotics or on too low

dosage of antibiotics.. Apparently it s from the spirochettes being active

and our immune system responds by sending immunological cells, such as T

cells, B cells to destroy the spirochetters, resulting in an increase in body

temperature. I have no idea why some don't have the fever while others do.. I

personally don't care for the fevers as they have caused countless accidents,

since I wasn't content to stay inside the house doing nothing but resting..

Do the fevers abate when you take antibiotics? Mine is pretty rare nowadays..

Hi Irene,

Wish I knew, for the last few nights I have been wakening either drenched

with sweat, or shivering so badly that my teeth rattle my brain. I should

take my temp when this happens, but always forget.

I used to have low grade fevers early in my LD, now hardly ever, either

normal or a little low. I am guessing my immune system gave up fighting.

It's interesting that you mentioned the level of abx in relation to the

fever. I did go off abx for 1 mo to clean out and then began a low dose

regimen just waiting for approval for IV. This is when the fevers did

surface again. I'm still waiting for approval and the fevers are on and off.

Thanks for the info. Wonder if anyone else has noticed this relationship?

This fever issue is interesting. I think I'm going to track it along with

other symptoms and put in the computer along with my different meds and see

if there is anything I can understand from it. Someone gave me a list of

symptoms down the left column and days across the top (one month per page).

I think you then put a code of 0-10 (least to most) next to each symptom. I

would then write the abx regimen under the columns at the bottom of the page.

Since my meds change periodically. One dr uses this to track their patients

and it's an excellent idea for everyone to be able to see more clearly how we

are progressing.

When I go to bed and my feet and hands are freezing; when I wake up I'm hot

and feel feverish. Strange stuff! Irene

Hi Irene,

I am noticing it, the highest fever I have is 99.5, yet I feel like I

have a raging fever, I wake up soaked, take my temp and it is 98. I

finished 28 days of IV on the 18th, and put myself on 1000mg of Ceftin and

250mg of Zith, till I hear from my doctor. It is making me feel like I am

constantly herxing. Maybe it is a good thing I got a break from IV, yet I

am hoping my doctor will get a second approval for another round of IV soon.

Good idea keeping the symptom journal, I wish I was so disciplined but

long ago lost that ability to focus. Let us know what you discover. I had

another bad night, sweats cause me to wake up freezing, fell asleep once

with thermometer in my mouth, found it in the bedcovers, one of the umpteen

mentioned that you are on orals now, right? I am wondering about the

night sweats...I haven't had any while on abx, and I'm wondering if it

happens to those with Erlichiosis or Babesia. I am supposedly not

suffering from those...anybody with " just LD " get them?

Since we are all talking about temps - mine is always low, between 97.6 - 98

when I'm on abx, and before I got sick (due Hypothyroid, maybe), but when I

go off abx's I get like Marta sometimes, and other times I have a temp

between 99.5-100. Or like Marta, feel like I'm burning up with a raging

fever and its only 98! This Lyme truly is a weird disease! Vicki

Well Joan,

According to my LLMD, my ehrlichiosis was cleared up long ago with

abx....now where have I heard that one before??? I am on orals, I kind of

think this nightsweat stuff in my case is hormonal right now. I am way

overdue for my period, had it twice in early February, not at all in March.

I do feel might sick though, and would also have to compare this feeling

with when I do have my period and am having a cyclic herx. I am kind of

glad I am off IV right now at least temporarily cannot imagine how that

would make me feel.

You're right Joan, and when I get a temp, the highest is only 99.5, yet I

I have horrible night sweats every night... I have

tested neg for co-infections and have taken Doxy just

in case it was false neg. The sweats seem to be worse

when everything else is worse too... Some days I get

up feeling severly dehydrated from sweating so much

during the night...

Hi ,

When I had a consultation with my 1st LLMD last year, one of the things

he asked me was if I ever had night sweats, as I hadn't mentioned them.

I told him that on occasional nights I would wake up dripping, with a

pool of " water " on my chest.

He tested me for co-infections, which were negative and recommended tx

for Lyme disease. Since being on tx, I have not had the night

sweats...plenty of other sx, but not that. Confusing?

BTW, did you work out the problems w/your LLMD? I hope so!
