I've never had a SPEC scan but if it's anything like an MRI it could have

caused a panic reaction in you as MRI's frequently do w/ people who are even

the least bit claustrophobic. Have you ever had a panic attack? I know that

they can be one manifestation of neuro Lyme and can be easily controlled w/

meds. I've had a few myself. Most people think they're going crazy and/or

are dying in the middle of them. Your symptoms fit but do talk to your

neurologist about the episode. I can't think right now of which sites to

send you to, but there's lots of the net about panic attacks. I even think

there's a www.panic.org (or net or com). Also, panic attacks should not be

confused w/ anxiety attacks. More about that later if anyone's interested.

If that's what's happening anti-anxiety drugs can completely control them. I

won't go into which ones. I'm sure your neurologist knows about them. Try

your best to stay calm. Anxiety feeds anxiety.

I'm sleepy now but I know a bunch about this subject and you can back

channel me if you need to know more after you've talked to your doctor.

I'm sorry you had such a horrible experience.

This does sound like a reaction to whatever they injected into your system

before the SPECT. I have never heard of this specific kind of reaction, but

I have heard too many people have some kind of reaction. Please let me/us

know what you doc says tomorrow. If this has never happened to you before

it's probably not you going crazy.

PS. How do you know it felt like a bad LSD trip? =)

Dabs,

Your episode sounds really scary! For what it's worth, those dyes

and things that they inject into you *can* cause psychiatric symptoms!

Many people are allergic or sensitive to them in some way. I

remember seeing an episode of NYPD Blue where one of the characters

was having a scan of his heart done, and the dye caused him to have

a panic attack and paranoid delusions for about 24 hours.

He did recover, though, once it cleared his system.

I know this isn't much of a medical reference, but it's the first

example that sprang to mind.... :-)

I would think you might also have had a worsening of symptoms from

going off the abx. I'm glad you're back on them. Just remember, if

you stop abx too early, you are allowing the remaining bacteria (who

would of course be those that are more resistant to the drug anyway,

since they're the last to die) to go forth and multiply in your body.

When I went off doxy for two days to give myself a rest and clear up a

yeast problem, all my symptoms came back in spades, and the doxy then

became ineffective for me.

Do whatever you can to keep yourself compliant with your meds.

Maybe some guided imagery or visualization where you picture the

abx killing your little spiros, or something. I love my abx; they've

given me back my life!

My LLMD agrees. He said I had a reaction to the dye and then a panic

attack....He spoke with the radiologist who confirmed I was " normal " until

after the injection.

Good Grief !! I cant take too much more!!!!!! I love NYPD Blue and wish I

had seen that episode....thank you :)
