Guest guest
Okay Folks - ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLE????!!!! We're only a few days away from the event in Gettysburg, and here's what we're working on: QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT BE ASKING YOURSELVES: 1. WHERE DO WE GO TO THE BATHROOM?? Good question, and one which we didn't think about until today! So, we scurried around and asked the different establishments in town. All were very kind and willing to have you come in and out to do what you need to do. The following are particularly good places to go: The Plaza Restaurant, The Gettysburg Hotel, and the Chamber of Commerce Building on Carlisle Street. 2. HOW DO WE GET TO THE GETTYSBURG COLLEGE CHAPEL FOR THE SYMPOSIUM?? Another thing we hadn't really figured out, but we think that Gettysburg College will provide some transportation for those of us who can't walk 2 1/2 blocks. Parking is difficult around the Chapel, so we're working hard on this one. 3. WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS?? We figured this one out also. In the event of a huge downpour [don't worry, it never rains on the righteous<g>!], we can move our rally indoors to the Gettysburg Chapel which we have from Noon till 6 p.m. 4. WHO IS COMING TO SPEAK TO US AT THE RALLY?? U.S. Senator Rick Santorum, Mayor Trostle of Gettysburg, State Representative Maitland, one of the winning candidates for the U.S. House seat [won't know until Wednesday - election is tomorrow], Representative of the PA Department of Health on behalf of Governor Ridge [who is out of the state with GW Bush]. Still undecided, but will send a letter of support if he can't come is Senator Arlen Specter. Pat of the LDANJ will speak to us about the prevalence of Lyme disease in our area, and Dr. Orens will have an open mike to speak. 5. WHICH NEWS IS COVERING US?? Dateline's Ranier and a film crew are setting up on the Square of Gettysburg at noon. They will be with us the entire day. The film crew will be there and cover the event at the farm for awhile, then they will go home. Mr. will be staying overnight locally. Also, Channel 8 news, Gettyburg Times, Hanover Evening Sun, York Dispatch, and assorted other local papers will be sending reporters. Still unsure what the NYTimes is doing...article was supposed to be out by now, but maybe they're coming to the rally first. I've been sending them information, but haven't heard from Hoc Noble in awhile. So, The Gettysburg Support Group is going to be there at noon setting up our quilt pieces [hanging them from the balcony of the Gettysburg Hotel], blowing up helium balloons [and testing to see if helium is a cure for Lyme disease!], and generally giving out hugs and directing people to Reid's " kissing booth " <g>! We figure that it will probably take us from noon until 2 p.m. to organize, meet, hug, entertain news reporters who come early, etc. 6. WHAT'S HAPPENING AT THE SYMPOSIUM?? Dr. Harold , Dr. Nick , Dr. ph Burrascano, Jr., and Dr. Virginia Sherr are speaking to us. Our moderator for the evening is my family doctor, Dr. Arlene Bobonich. The front pews of the Gettysburg Chapel will be roped off for physicians. We're hoping we can get them there - we know for sure that the docs will be represented in our area. Also, I've invited my HMO to attend, and I think others in our group may be inviting theirs. If our Health Insurers can understand this disease, then maybe they will think about us more compassionately [ fat chance, but at least they'll know we're a large group of politically active people!]. 7. WHAT IF I COME IN FRIDAY NIGHT - DOES GETTYSBURG HAVE A NIGHT LIFE?? No, but there are Ghost Tours. Lots and lots of people have died in Gettysburg and haunt us, so Ghost tours are really big<G>! In fact, one of the groups that runs a Ghost Tour is at the Farnsworth House. The owners just came to our support group yesterday, so tell them you're Lymies and they'll treat you right - maybe they'll throw in another ghost story for free!<g> Or, you can try to find me and my farm - on the day of the rally we'll bring balloons to tie onto my mailbox. 8. HAVE WE MISSED SOMETHING?? Probably - we're Lymies just like you, so we're not always on top of things, but we try hard. One of our members offered to bring a marching band from 1 hour away, but I thought that might be too much<g>! T-Shirts will still be available, but won't be sold directly on the Square because we didn't get a sales permit to do that. However, you may pick them up in the lobby of the Gettysburg Hotel, and donations of $5.00 each will be gratefully accepted. If you get into town and want your t-shirt Friday evening or early Saturday morning, call me at 334-6339 and we'll bring them to you. Also, we're still working on an interpreter for . I'm down to my last phone call for an interpreter - can anyone else nearby find one for her? I really hate that we have been so unsuccessful. To have Lyme disease is bad enough - but in our area it must be even worse to be deaf. WELL, I'm exhausted, but I think this is going to be GREAT!!! Unfortunately, I'm back in my dark sunglasses again and having difficulty with concentration, but I guess that setback is to be expected. Love to you all!!
