Guest guest
i just re-read your whole memo and saw this: ellen wrote: So my dr said sinus and bronchitis. And gave me a quinolone antibiotic! now i'm even more confused. why did doc prescribe a powerful antibiotic for a viral condition??? confused, kendra -----Original Message----- From: kendra dear ellen, sounds like a challenging time, yet an opportunity to apply your growing knowledge of herbal healing. per buhner's book Herbal antibiotics, i looked up pneunomia (nothing listed specifically for " bronchitis " ). he has chart that list four most-common resistant bacteria that cause pneunomia. each different bacteria has specific herbs to treat it. i notice that all four bacteria have in common for treatment: essential oil of thyme OR oregano three of four recommend: garlic two of four recommend: boneset and wormwood note that he does NOT recommend goldenseal for this condition. (says it's way over used for conditions not needed) page 32: " ... a recent study ... noted that essential oils are extremely powerful in the treatment of pneumonia. Lead researcher ... noted that the essential oils of thyme, rosewood, and oregano cause pneumonia-causing antibiotic-resistant bacteria to simply 'go to pieces.' " he has several cautions listed for using grapefruit seed extract, not recommended specifically for this condition. hmmm, well just realized i didn't know difference between bronchitis and pneumonia http://lungdiseases.about.com/od/termsdefinitions/f/Pneum_v_Bronch.htm " Nearly 90 percent of all cases of acute bronchitis are caused by viruses, while many cases of chronic bronchitis are due to repeated exposures of irritants such as smoke. Antibiotic therapy is ineffective since these drugs can only affect bacterial illnesses and cannot eradicate viral illnesses or irritants. " according to this, the antibiotics won't be effective. sinusitis seems to be caused by possible combo of virus, bacteria, and/or fungi http://www.niaid.nih.gov/factsheets/sinusitis.htm he also has recipe for nasal spray for sinus infections, but too much for me to type right now. tell me if you like the recipe. please let me know how else i can help you, my dear. love, kendra -----Original Message----- If anyone reading this has this book by Buhner, would you be so kind as to tell me what are some of the herbal antibiotics he recommends? These are ones I know about: echinacae, golden seal, garlic and onion, grapefruit seed oil, olive tree oil. Wonder if there are others he mentions I can try, which are common and easy to pick up. Or, if anyone has any ideas. I have a sinus infection and bronchitis.
