Guest guest
Hi Butch, What a tough time -- hopefully the herbs will bring it around. It sounds like it's tricky, combining herbs from different people's recommendations, as in Cowden and Buhner. But in the meantime, something that's been helping me with joint swelling has been Epsom salt soaks. Since Epsom salts are mainly magnesium, my working theory is that this is helping because magnesium starvation is part of the problem, in dealing with borrelia. I take magnesium supplements also, but can't do very much because of stomach irritation. But the soaks feel great. Getting in the tub isn't possible for me, but it's worked out really well using a thick washcloth, dipped into a tub of hot water mixed with Epson salts. 1-2 cups/2 quarts water. A scrap plastic bag on the bed, in the area that's getting the soaks, helps keep it all under control. But if you can get in a tub, that would probably be both easier and better. Just a thought -- since it brings no worries of herb interactions! Guest guest
dear butch, i sounds like you are feeling very isolated, and needing a support system during this difficult and confusing healing journey. welcome to our group. i'm wondering why you choose the buhner group when you are not using the buhner protocol? are there no support groups for cowden protocol? you say you are needing someone on the same page as you, however, most all of us are using the buhner herbs, so i'm sorry we may not be able to help you much with cowden. i did use the cowden protocol for a couple months, with no improvement, before i found buhner. i recently posted about cowden in message #3388, look in our archive. i wonder, after 3 months of enduring such difficult symptoms, with little or no improvement, what does your doctor say? why don't you stop the protocol? have you been regularly testing your liver while taking these cowden herbs? i've heard of some (not all) people having liver problems from the cowden protocol. given your symptoms, this would be something to check. have you read buhner's book on lyme? your symptoms sound a lot like mine were; i found best relief from the buhner herbs, especially stephania for inflammation, stiffness, aches, etc. and like many of others here, buhner herbs generally have very mild herxes compared with other protocols i've used. may you deep rest nourish your healing. kendra -----Original Message----- i have been on 3 months cumanda (i am up to 11 x2) adrenal support(12x2)takuna (30X2)with the cumanda i take bromelain (1500mgx2)even days only and carnivora (4x2) odd days is there anyone in here who would like to shed some light on their experience with this ? my knees are inflammated all the time my feet are inflammated to the point i cant wear shoes they are huge .cant straighten out my arms elbow arthritis ? neck stiff all the time ,lower back pain, inflammation in left hand joints gettin worse . some months back i was on oral antibiotics about 5 months i lost alot of weight 40 lbs and all muscle in my body i am 47 yrs old and naked i look 70-80yrs old .i am still losing weight dont know why? i do eat. the cumanda is hard on me i was stuck at 5drops x 2 i pushed my self to 11 with all the bad i could imagine but i stuck with it .marijuana helped the herx if thats what the incredible amount of joint pain was and i slept alot during the day .i basically felt like shit .not too far from where i am these days with the constant joint pain and inflammation. so if any one has something to say about what i have just posted please let me have it . i am very much inthe dark here .all the tthe reading and this n that just boggles my mind anymore . i need someone who is on the same page as me with my treatment or close to it .tired of being alone i feel most of the time with this .there are probably a few aches and so on i forgot in here but i am sure most of you can imagine my condition .oh yes vicodin for pain not doing much good theses days.need something stronger. butch in mesa arizona For free up to date information about Lyme disease and the known co-infections delivered to your email address see: Robynns_Lyme_List/
Guest guest
chris~ i'm not doing the buhner herb protocol, just learning about it. however, i gotta at least try to give some helpful suggestion. if i were you i'd stop taking everything except a very very little smoke and vicodin when absolutely have to in order to get some sleep or the pain is so bad you need to cry and scream. add in shark cartiladge and lots of water. that'll enhance the immune system and control the joint pain and inflammation but it'll take a few days to really start controlling it as the levels must accumulate in your body. find the book " sharks don't get cancer " and use per instructions so you don't damage the delicate long chain molecules. dose yourself about half of what it says to treat cancer...that's based on body weight and will be a lot - you'll be burping the funky fishy flavor. have a quality multi-vitamin daily, make a habit of juicing fruits and veges including fresh baby mixed greens... whether you feel like it or like them or not, and make sure you have at least a couple tablespoons of organic live plain yogurt daily (NOT sweetened, fruit or flavoring added, just plain) don't cook it or add it to anything hot until it's cooled. if you can get ahold of colloidal silver or a generator and some silver wires (even the most primitive like 3 - 9v batteries will do, read up around the net) drink lots daily. if taking CSilver also take extra vit E, C, Selenium, and MSM & /or chlorella. that's my best guess to see what happens. good luck! bobL > [ ] new here and doing cowden protocol > > > i have been on 3 months cumanda (i am up to 11 x2) adrenal > support(12x2)takuna (30X2)with the cumanda i take bromelain > (1500mgx2)even days only and carnivora (4x2) odd days is there anyone > in here who would like to shed some light on their experience with > this ? my knees are inflammated all the time my feet are inflammated > to the point i cant wear shoes they are huge .cant straighten out my > arms elbow arthritis ? neck stiff all the time ,lower back > pain, inflammation in left hand joints gettin worse . some months back > i was on oral antibiotics about 5 months i lost alot of weight 40 lbs > and all muscle in my body i am 47 yrs old and naked i look 70-80yrs > old .i am still losing weight dont know why? i do eat. the cumanda is > hard on me i was stuck at 5drops x 2 i pushed my self to 11 with all > the bad i could imagine but i stuck with it .marijuana helped the herx > if thats what the incredible amount of joint pain was and i slept alot > during the day .i basically felt like shit .not too far from where i > am these days with the constant joint pain and inflammation. so if any > one has something to say about what i have just posted please let me > have it . i am very much inthe dark here .all the tthe reading and > this n that just boggles my mind anymore . i need someone who is on > the same page as me with my treatment or close to it .tired of being > alone i feel most of the time with this .there are probably a few > aches and so on i forgot in here but i am sure most of you can imagine > my condition .oh yes vicodin for pain not doing much good theses > days.need something stronger. > > butch in mesa arizona >
Guest guest
Shemaya, just a comment: you got to try different magnesium until you find one that fits your body, that doesn't cause you GI symptoms. There are many types, I'm pretty sure you'll find one. It took me lots of trial and error to find one (or rather 2 in the end), and I stick to them. Magnesium is indeed so essential for lyme sufferers that I even don't add it to my supplement list. It's always been there. I take little compared to people, but without it, I know my body suffers as I'll get cramps very fast. My GI is usually super sensitive to anything, but these 2 magnesium supplements never caused me any upset, zero, while others caused me almost immediately diarrhea and pain. I don't think it's a good idea to use a supplement that causes 'irritation', as you say. It could be doing more harm than good. Same with herbs, in my opinion. I usually drop a herb/ supplement that irritates my GI tract, as it will mess up with absorption of the OTHER stuff that I would normally absorb well. Even food will not be well absorbed. GI tract health is essential for any protocol. Good to know epsom salts is doing you good! Selma > > Hi Butch, > > What a tough time -- hopefully the herbs will bring it around. Guest guest
>Dear I'm so sorry you are in so much pain and feeling down: who wouldn't?! It is hard for people here to comment on what you are taking because most people, obviously, are following 's protocol. I'm new to the group too and , like you, had already started the Cowden protocol in Jan, so was aleady on full dose of cumanda [with burbur and bromelain] when I started with S's herbs. Although I do have quite incapacitating bodily aces and muscle pain,I do not have the horrible swelling you describe. Has this started only since you began your herbs or is it a regular feature of the Lyme for you? Is there any possibility that you are having allergic responses or food intolerances? It sounds to me as if you need a practitioner to help guide you through this time. I too find that the Epsom salt baths can soothe aches, though they do exhaust me. Dr Jernigan on www.jnutra.com adds hydrogen peroxide and ginger to the Epsom salts if you want to check it out. Do hope things improve for you soon, Best Wishes, Carolyn > i have been on 3 months cumanda (i am up to 11 x2) adrenal > support(12x2)takuna (30X2)with the cumanda i take bromelain > (1500mgx2)even days only and carnivora (4x2) odd days is there anyone > in here who would like to shed some light on their experience with > this ? my knees are inflammated all the time my feet are inflammated > to the point i cant wear shoes they are huge .cant straighten out my > arms elbow arthritis ? neck stiff all the time ,lower back > pain, inflammation in left hand joints gettin worse . some months back > i was on oral antibiotics about 5 months i lost alot of weight 40 lbs > and all muscle in my body i am 47 yrs old and naked i look 70-80yrs > old .i am still losing weight dont know why? i do eat. the cumanda is > hard on me i was stuck at 5drops x 2 i pushed my self to 11 with all > the bad i could imagine but i stuck with it .marijuana helped the herx > if thats what the incredible amount of joint pain was and i slept alot > during the day .i basically felt like shit .not too far from where i > am these days with the constant joint pain and inflammation. so if any > one has something to say about what i have just posted please let me > have it . i am very much inthe dark here .all the tthe reading and > this n that just boggles my mind anymore . i need someone who is on > the same page as me with my treatment or close to it .tired of being > alone i feel most of the time with this .there are probably a few > aches and so on i forgot in here but i am sure most of you can imagine > my condition .oh yes vicodin for pain not doing much good theses > days.need something stronger. > > butch in mesa arizona >

I was in the same shape about two years ago.I was about 95% disabled. My lymebrain could not handle much ! The only thing I used for about a year and a half was a really good whole food Supplement and Samento at 10 drops per day. ( 5@night and 5@am ) The swelling improved tremendously, as well as the arthritus and so many other symptoms of lyme and coinfections. Of course I also added alot of good supports such as magnesium , milk thistle, olive leaf, and a good diet, tons of water , etc. I`m a WHOLE lot better today and still working on it.About 75% functional now , sometimes more , sometimes less. Taking the salt/c protocol now along with Samento, Artemisinin, and a few others. Hope this helps , in WV
Guest guest
Well, I for one sure don't WANT to be on the same page as you as far as treatment AND pain goes. When something isn't working, it is TIME to TRY something that WILL. I don't need ANY kind of pain medicine MOST of the time, and certainly not grass. Never have, never will use that. Especially IF you have to smoke it. THAT certainly can't be good for your lungs and blood. MOST of us HERE are using the BUHNER protocol. IT works! At least for most of us who have used it. Guest guest
are you seeing Dr. Cowden as your doctor? my doctor, Larry Sharp, in Ft. Worth was working with him before he went to Arizona. I first used Samento, then Cumanda, then Banderol, now Banderol and Pinella together(all on the full dose, well tolerated..banderol possibly causing liver toxicity lately but maybe not). I think for me, these treatments are managing the lyme disease, but not totally getting rid of it. I am doing some other investigation and looking at Dr. Zhang's treatment now. www.dr-zhang.com I too have adrenal fatigue, and am kind of using Dr. 's adrenal stuff on www.adrenalfatigue.org I'm also using the Nutramedix adrenal tincture. and carnivora..cycled with lumbrokinase. I used to take bromelain, but muscle testing said I didn't need it anymore. Also takuna for a short while. It sounds like you should check out your cortisol levels and see where they're at, I could offer some advice, though I shouldn't be considered an authority there. My cortisol is actually fine, DHEA and pregnenolone are just low. But all that is secondary. First order of business is to get rid of infections and enhance immunity. I'm using acupuncture right now to try and help out with this. I think the fact that cumanda is making you worse is probably a good sign. It only happened mildly to me in the beginning. It definitely sounds like you need to work with someone on your digestion- make sure you are absorbing the food you eat. This would pertain to weight loss. Also just a lot of infections I believe can cause weight loss. Colostrum is something to try and get ahold of and drink- should help to some extent with immune enhancing, and absorption. You definitely need to be taking probiotics and address any yeast/digestive parasite issues. This, I think should be the first order of business. So the steps that need to be taken as I've learned them in my quest for wellness: 1. Get rid of digestion/absorption inhibitors- meaning pathogens in your gut. Candida, parasites, bad bacteria. Take probiotics, colostrum if you can get it. I used a supplement called mucosagen, one bottle of that, to restore lining of the gut. I've also had 2 different bouts of parasites, now treating the 2nd with Systemic Formulas VRM 3. Before doing that you really need to find out what size parasites you might have (and that you do, indeed have them). 2. Enhance digestion and absorption. Mucosagen and colostrum, fermented nourishing traditional whole foods in general should help. I recommend talking with people involved in the Weston A. Price Foundation, and reading the book " Nourishing Traditions " by Sally Fallon. 3. Enhance immunity, get rid of infections. This is what you are doing now, to a degree. I really believe dietary issues must come before any of this. Again colostrum, and especially hyper-immunized colostrum play into this very much. For a great video that is absolutely loaded with good info: http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=Food+as+medicine The first two there, with Jerry Brunetti 4. Heal the adrenals. Dr. 's protocol(with nutramedix's adrenal tincture instead of his) seems best from what I know. 5. Look at other issues, like hypothyroid. I have had all of the above issues, and I'm 19. The gift of industrial society eh? Your pain and inflammation issues probably have something to do with Cortisol. Possibly also 1,25 dihydrozy Vitamin D (the active inflammatory hormone form). All of the lab work I've been keeping track of are the following: TSH,Free T3, Free T4, Reverse T3, DHEA, Pregnenolone, Serum Cortisol, and all the usual stuff which always comes out normal. The only one of the listed that is normal for me is cortisol, everything else is off. good luck. The first, universal thing I can say that you should do is find peace and do things you enjoy, and eat a nourishing traditional diet- nothing processed, nothing 'with ingredients'. > > i have been on 3 months cumanda (i am up to 11 x2) adrenal > support(12x2)takuna (30X2)with the cumanda i take bromelain > (1500mgx2)even days only and carnivora (4x2) odd days is there anyone > in here who would like to shed some light on their experience with > this ? my knees are inflammated all the time my feet are inflammated > to the point i cant wear shoes they are huge .cant straighten out my > arms elbow arthritis ? neck stiff all the time ,lower back > pain, inflammation in left hand joints gettin worse . some months back > i was on oral antibiotics about 5 months i lost alot of weight 40 lbs > and all muscle in my body i am 47 yrs old and naked i look 70-80yrs > old .i am still losing weight dont know why? i do eat. the cumanda is > hard on me i was stuck at 5drops x 2 i pushed my self to 11 with all > the bad i could imagine but i stuck with it .marijuana helped the herx > if thats what the incredible amount of joint pain was and i slept alot > during the day .i basically felt like shit .not too far from where i > am these days with the constant joint pain and inflammation. so if any > one has something to say about what i have just posted please let me > have it . i am very much inthe dark here .all the tthe reading and > this n that just boggles my mind anymore . i need someone who is on > the same page as me with my treatment or close to it .tired of being > alone i feel most of the time with this .there are probably a few > aches and so on i forgot in here but i am sure most of you can imagine > my condition .oh yes vicodin for pain not doing much good theses > days.need something stronger. > > butch in mesa arizona >
