I took just one capsule for 3 days last week and had really horrendous cognitive and mental disturbances for about 4 days after that eg confusion, memory loss and depression and just felt like my brain cells were dying! I didnt attribute my reaction at the time to the knotweed partly as I was so confused and as I had just bought a new computer and thought the problem was to do with chemical exposure & the EMFs. In hindsight I really think it was the knotweed now. Ive also been getting head pains and sensations all over my head and what feels like intracranial pressure which is something I dont get normally. Since then I have found out that I have borrelia like spirochetes in my blood diagnosed by microscopy so it makes sense now that it was most likely a herx. I have no idea how long I have been infected for, I have had CFS/ME for 14 yrs though and judging from my reaction I think my bacterial/spirochete load is probably quite high and disseminated. So I was just wondering if anyone else had had a similar reaction? I have noticed an improvement in energy and mentally too since then which is a good sign I guess! But it looks like I will have to go very slowly with the herbs. Thanks, Anne

Guest guest
Thanks Jim & vjollca, Yes it makes sense to go really slow at the start as there is going to be a much higher die off I think I'll probably need to keep my doses quite low for a while and hopefully that will make it a lot more manageable. Sorry to hear you have been feeling the same as I did vjollca, I hope you are coping with it ok as I really struggled to get through some days. Maybe you need to cut back on your doses too? I hope it gets easier for you and me too! Take care, Anne Hi everyone, > > I just wondered if anyone here has experienced a strong herxheimer > reaction after taking Japanese Knotweed? Guest guest
Anne: Actually it is NOT from high die off that you have to be concerned about. It is your system getting USED to the herbs. There is NOT high dieoff like you get with abx. Like Buhner says, he likes to keep the Chetes happy. They are NOT happy if they are being killed. Live and let live. Guest guest
Hi Jim, I understand what you are saying but I wasnt suggesting that the herbs act in the same way as antibiotics, I know that they work in a totally different way to drugs because they have many different properties not just anti-microbial which is why I chose them as part of my treatment approach. The herbs do have anti-spirochete and immune boosting properties though so I think that part of getting used to their effects is being able to manage any die-off/herxheimer reactions we may get as a result of these actions. If the dose is too high I'm sure it is possible to get a high die off reaction. I was just recounting my own experience with the Knotweed as I'm pretty sure that I did experience a very strong herx when I took it recently as a lot of my symptoms got a lot worse and then improved and in some ways it was an even stronger effect than I got from an antibiotic I took previously which took me by surprise. I was only taking a relatively small dose too but perhaps it was just too much for me and it disturbed the spirochetes too much as you point out. It is still very early days for me in my use of the herbs and getting used to what I can tolerate. Best wishes, Anne > > Anne: > Actually it is NOT from high die off that you have to be concerned about.
