Guest guest
--- I have had a picc line since June 1998. Have I had problems with it? Some minor ones. Nothing that extra flushing cannot handle. The line itself has been changed every six months. To shower, I found something great that works: there is a wrap used by movers that is available at U-Haul stores. It is almost like a saran wrap but it sticks very well to itself. I wrap my arm before showering. The great thing is that it is CHEAP. A roll cost about $6 and lasts me about 7 months! The first two weeks I had the picc, I was in extreme pain. But once it healed, I really haven't had much to complain about with it besides the fact that it is an eye sore and I hate the questions it generates with anyone sees it. I follow all instructions for care of the picc, flushing, keeping it dry, nurse changing the bandage weekly, etc. Good luck---I feel so much better. Every month I think I have seen the end to my progress, then the next month comes along and I see more progress, especially with the neuro. symptoms. Two years ago, I had lost my ability to learn anything new (and I am a teacher of computers at the high school level!!!). Just this past few months I took the first class I have been able to tolerate, and I have learned to master Adobe Photoshop (complex program for manipulating graphics)!!! No one could have convinced me three years ago when I was finally diagnosed that I would ever have this cognitive function back again, but I do. Keep the faith. BTW the abx I have been on with the most success is IV Doxycycline, 300 to 400 mg daily.
