has anyone had stomach trouble with andrographis?

i tried to order a tincture from Biopure and they read me the

contraindications over

the phone saying that large prolonged doses can cause digestive

dysfunction

and can irritate / cause ulcers. it made me hesitate and i ended up not

buying

it. i don't believe buhner mentions that this herb is unsafe.

i've had IBS for years - and not the constipation kind so i'm not

worrying about the

herb being constipating.

I'm taking it for months and months. In January 07, it will be a year.

My only big problem before lyme was on the GI tract. Stomach pains,

diarrhea, intolerance to certain foods. It was my weak point for

sure. It has been like that for decades (since puberty). Doctors told

me I had gastritis, then after no more, then they gave me no more

diagnostic, they looked at me as though I was inventing/ imagining

things. I couldn't even use trousers anymore. Any pressure on my

tummy would have caused me terrible pains and diarrhea. I was

on 'pregnant-like' clothes for a couple of years.

A bit before lyme (3-4 years before), my GI symptoms got better with

homeopathy, I could wear trousers again, but I was never 100%. About

60-70%. Now, I feel I'm better than before lyme. So andro did nothing

against my GI tract. If it did something, it probably made me better

as I feel even next to 100% there. Of course, I'm on a diet.

I always took andro and all his herbs on empty stomach. Any

antibiotic would have destroyed my stomach before the 3rd day, if not

from first day. I could never stand even half of an aspirin because

of cramps.

Buhner's herbs never caused me stomach pains. But we're all different.

Thanks, Selma - that's good to hear about andrographis.

Hi, Mike--

I bought my teasel from www.myherbs.net. 100 capsules cost 11.00

plus shipping. Each capsule is 800 mg of teasel root. I take the

suggested one cap 3 times a day. I also take zithromax and a number

of vitamins, magnesium, yeast-fighting herbs, etc. I honestly can't

tell you if the teasel is working. When I was taking the protocol

herbs (with zithromax) I felt kind of permanently herxy---achy and

fatigued. Off the protocol, my energy is better, but the aches seem

to be localizing in my back and knees. I still get headaches, either

way, and my floaters and numbness in my face are increasing. I'm not

sure what is going on, really. I just decided that zith plus

protocol was too much for me---I was hoping to tough it through for a

year, but it was too hard. So I don't know if I'm really better, or

if my body is relieved to have less to deal with--and I may be

setting myself up for a future relapse. In the past, I'd feel good

when I went off of abx, only to relapse. Who knows what is best? At

any rate, the teasel doesn't seem to do any harm.

Good luck--

Vicki

Ah! I thought I remembered reading about that in Healing Lyme, but couldn't seem

to find it. :-P

Thank you!

something like 4 hours - it's in Buhner's book- a lot of it is excreted

initially and then the elimination process slows down. You have to take

it multiple times a day for this reason, though I think (??) that some

effects build up over time (I can't remember if it was andro or

artimisia I'm thinking of here)
