Guest guest
Funny you should say that Reid. I talked to a friend yesterday that I hadnt seen in months, she did not know I had LD. A family friend of hers had been battling cancer for years, had some Chemo, several biopsy's and had been told he might not have long to live. Dr's NEVER found cancer in his system but 'knew' that is what he had. As a last resort his mom made him go to her 'ol Country Dr and HE found that the guy had LD, HME all along!! Its been 1 year since DX, he is doing a little better. Gave her my phone # to have him contact me so I can tell him about Ya'll and Lymenet , I am sure Country Dr has been following Steeres protocol. Someday they will say that LD IS in TX. Doesnt that one sound like Lawsuit City! Pepi

This is what I keep telling the folks on the cancer list for dogs. I KNEW Jack (our Sheltie - now at Bridge) did NOT have cancer, yet 5 vets said so - just because antibody tests came back negative (tested for 1 strain of ehrylichia & 1 of babesia, lyme & RMSF). I DO NOT understand how doctors can be so stupid - I mean - S-T-U-P-I-D! When a knowledgeable person is standing them giving them facts & stats - along with FACT that family member (who is always outside with dog) is positive in lyme, babesia & ehrylichia & they don't hear it. I've asked several if I'm speaking ENGLISH??? Yet they all have the US map on the wall with endemic states marked in red - surprise - Illinois is listed as a state with lyme but, I'm sure - only for vaccination purposes - not treatment! GRRRRR! These SOBs killed my beloved little companion - in my opinion - by refusing to see the writing on the wall - until it was too late. By the time he finally got the liquid Doxy, it was just too late. Sorry for ranting - just so frustrating. Maybe we should all go take a course in stupidity, then we could communicate more effectively with NON-LLMDs. Guest guest
Hi So sorry about the loss of your beloved pet...I was wondering, do you know that doxy and other drugs like Flagyl are available without a rx from pet catalogs? I am thinking of Drs and catalogs. I have a pet medical book also available from them that indicates the dosages a pet should take depending on weight. The website is: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/ I buy my dog's Heartworm and other meds from them, at a third of the price the vet would charge. Funny that you need a dr's rx for Heartworm meds but not the abx....I am posting this information for other's benefit too, in case you have pets who you feel need the meds, and the vet's are stupid. Guest guest
Dear Marta, Thanks for extending your condolences & the info on abxs. We just had this discussion with our pharmacist the other day - no script necessary for animal abxs. As for Jack - we know he is in a better place & have come to terms with his departure for the Bridge. On the positive side, the ignorance & stupidity of the vets (not to mention the testing labs & vet schools - GRRRRR!) has really lit a fire under my a**. His precious little life was not sacrificed in vain! Surely you must all know I scan tons of email lists for anyone posting about symptoms which could be " tick " related & post up a storm to inform EVERYONE about these insiduous diseases - oh & what " they " are doing to our docs. (VBG!) Yea - the controls they put on some meds is just unbelieveable. With the heartworm meds, though, if a dog has heartworm & takes the preventative pills, I think it can do more damage than good. Also, a friend of Dr. Dodd's recently told me that Dr. Dodd uses the DAILY heartworm preventative & recommends same to clients as the monthly heartworm meds allow the parasites to remain alive in the body for a whole month until the next dose - when they're all killed at once. (I never knew this - just " assumed " that the meds had a 30-day half-life & continued killing the heartworms.) Sigh... Thanks again, Marta - I really appreciate the support on this list. Blessings & velcro hugs, Chris
