Guest guest
Welcome to our list Sky, You came to the right place, almost all of us on this list are Late stage Lyme, suffering depression and memory problems. You missed a lively discussion we had about locking keys in our cars, due to memory problems. Now that you are subscribed you can read our archives at: /group/lyme-aid Scroll up the page and you will see the archives filed by month. My depression is pretty well under control thanks to the 30mg of Paxil I have been on for a few years now. Also, this list helps me lots, as I know I am not alone in this suffering, and I get plenty of validation for my strange symptoms. I would love to hear your Lyme story, when you got bit, and where in the US you live? Guest guest
Hi Marta: Thank you for your kind response to my email. Here's my story: my Lyme doc thinks I've had it for 10-15 years, also had babesia and erlichia(sp?). Ironically, the way I got my diagnosis was searching about Lyme on the Internet for a pt. with it (I'm a speech pathologist) and began to cry when I finally realized what was wrong with me. I then called the 1-800-tick-bite # in New Jersey and was referred to an excellent doctor and got the dx via LUAT in Nov. 1998. I had speech problems, memory and organizational problems and swallowing problems which is pretty damn funny considering those are the three areas in which I help my patients. I was working part time through all this and it was pretty funny b/c I was much sicker than many of my patients. But in a way it was fascinating b/c I now know from the inside out how my patients feel and I am a better therapist for it. That was a gift. The 2 things I couldn't accept though were weight gain (now under control thanks to Dr. Atkins) and severe intermittent depression which I am experiencing right now. I am still on Biaxin and Zoloft; I might switch to Paxil. I live in DE. Here are 2 things I have to offer which aren't much but....... if anyone in the DE, MD area needs a good Lyme doctor I could confidentially provide a name. Also, because of my profession I know a lot of tricks to compensate for memory and thinking problems and I'd be happy to share them. Thanks for listening. Guest guest
I can relate to the depression and memory problems............most recently, I have been receiving my bills in the mail and they all have credits on them. Like I can really afford to have credit! I charge my gas for my vehicle, I have a $162 credit with Amoco...........I must have paid my bill twice or wrote the wrong amount..............scary, I know. Its not my only credit either. What scares me the most, is when I am paying my bills..........I am paying close attention to what I'm doing and checking and rechecking............and I'm still making mistakes...........I can't tell you the last time my check book balanced!! Guest guest
Hi Connie, Wow, I was going to post, let's not look a gift horse in the mouth, but I really think you should look back at your prior bills and figure out whether it is an error or you did indeed overpay the bills. Unless you are very rich and have lots of money in your check book to overpay, eventually one of your bills will come up not paid. It would also be a good idea to get that check book balanced if you have a good thinking day. You wouldn't want to pay those outrageous fees for returned checks. Now that would be a mess. Even though I have neuro-Lyme and it is getting harder to figure, I have to have my check book balanced to the penny or I will be a nervous wreck. Probably comes from the 10 years I worked as a credit manager, but it stayed with me. If you can't do this yourself, take the check book to the bank and ask them to figure out your current balance and start from there. Good luck, Hugs, Marta From: ConnieK <conniek@...> I can relate to the depression and memory problems............most recently, I have been receiving my bills in the mail and they all have credits on them. I agree that having the training and back ground has helped a bit when the heavy fog rolls in. Feel free to write me off list if you wish. I give you a lot of credit being able to work while so sick. I have been on sick leave this entire school year. I really miss my work, but know that I have been too ill and I just don't have the energy needed to work with the little ones. I also had serious cervical spine surgery in November, so you can say I have had a double whammy. While I have trouble finding anything positive about this horrid disease, I have come up with a few things that have helped me through the darkest moments... 1. Had it not been for Lyme (caused the many falls I took this past summer) I may not have found the serious problem with my spinal canal, and could have become a quadriplegic. 2. Being on the other side of the therapy tables (PT & OT) I have a new appreciation of the amazing job my students/clients do in Speech/Language Therapy. 3. I allowed work stress to overwhelm me, and I have since learned that NO job is worth that amount of stress! My health is way too important to jeopardize again. 4. There are many amazing, caring, compassionate people here on the Internet, especially the wonderful folks of Lymeaid!! Take Care, Jane (CT)
