Guest guest
Hi, Has anyone here done the protocol while dealing with colitis to some degree? According to the book, Andrographis can HELP with colon irritation, but I wouldn't start that herb until beginning 3-4 of the others (Smilax, Eleuthero,Cat's Claw, Resveratrol) Has the protocol CAUSED colitis for anyone? I see " GI upset " listed all over the place, but I'm talking about colon irritation (burning, etc.) Thanks, -
Guest guest
hi andrew, i don't have colitis, but i do have irritable bowel. i think most of the GI side effects of few of herbs are mostly like nausea rather intestinal. i have very sensitive intestines and have not connected any of the herbs to problems with colon. don't know how it will be for you. important to start at low dose and increase slowly. also, start with one herb at a time so that you can clearly see which herb, if any, may trigger problems for you. also, keep in mind that many supplements have so-called " inactive " ingredients, so it might not be the herb, but something else in the capsule or tablet. don't know how sensitive you are to the " extras. " so, if you do run into problems, it might be worth trying purer forms, like Pure Encapsulations brand (which has NO extra fillers, binders, etc) or the WHOLE (not " concentrated " ) Plum Flower brand herbs. for instance, i cannot tolerate gluten or casein, so all my herbs have to be gluten-free or i get major intestinal problems. and last spring i suddenly became intolerant to all RICE :-( so i had to screen all by supplements for any rice fillers. blessings on your healing journey, kendra -----Original Message----- From: [mailto: ]On Behalf Of drewsf1 Hi, Has anyone here done the protocol while dealing with colitis to some degree? Guest guest
I had colitis BEFORE getting Lyme and using herbs. I now have had an illeostomy since 1994. I am very touchy when it comes to consuming many things. I have had no trouble with Buhner's Core Protocol, plus many other of his herb recommendations. ONE that I did have a LOT of trouble though with BURNING, is the Siberian Ginseng, eleuthero. I had to stop that after a couple of days of it. Guest guest
Hi , I'm going to answer a qualified yes to your quesiton re: Buhner herbs and colitis. One of my symptoms of bacterial infection (I have chlamydia pneumoniae) is that I am hypersensitive to cortisol - I get side effects from even low doses of hydrocortisone. As a consequence I also do badly with most " adaptogenic " herbs, which again give me similar side effects. Since starting Buhner last week (the core 3 plus sarsaparilla), I've been getting side effects of too much cortisol. One of the side effects I get from excess cortisol is Colitis (inflammation in the bowel), which I believe is yeast related (high cortisol allows yeast to proliferate). Anyway I suddenly reaslised that it was the Buhner herbs causing my excess cortisol. My suspicions fell on sarsaparilla. Although Buhner's description in his book does not mention it explicitlly, it does hint at sarsaparilla being an adaptogen (he doesn't use the word adaptogen, but he uses various other terms). So I did a search and found the following: " Sarsaparilla contains steroidal saponins, such as sarsasapogenin, which may mimic the action of some human hormones; this property remains undocumented. " from http://groups.msn.com/HealingHerbs/herbssz.msnw So thats the reason I've been getting colitis. Obviously I'm going to drop sarsaparilla and just carry on with the core 3 for now. I don't know if this applies to anyone else out there, or if its just my unique health situation. . > > Hi, > > Has anyone here done the protocol while dealing with colitis to some degree? > > According to the book, Andrographis can HELP with colon irritation, but I wouldn't start that > herb until beginning 3-4 of the others (Smilax, Eleuthero,Cat's Claw, Resveratrol) > > Has the protocol CAUSED colitis for anyone? Guest guest
I personally HAD Colitis super bad back in the 90's. As a matter of fact it got so bad in 94 that I had to have ALL of my colon taken out. I was NOT on herbs at the time. IT was CIPRO that was the culpret. I HOPE neither of you have ever had Cipro. IT is a killer of colons. I even find it hard to believe that they even allow it to be used anymore.
