Some CMTers have nerve pain. Some have structual pain - such as arthritis or

joint pains. Some have both. Some CMTers have no pain.

My neurologist says I have nerve pain. Mine has varied over the years. The

most striking nerve pain is when you feel as if you are being electrocuted

from the inside. Shocks and jolts of varying intensity cause you to jump or

jerk. It's almost as if you are being touched by " hot " wires and receiving

shocks, but they are under your skin. That's one kind of nerve pain.

My shock and jolt pain has gradually changed over to what I call wrenching

spasms. They only last a few seconds, most of the time, but can double me

over in no time. Sometimes they last a number of seconds, and that really

smarts!

The third pain is one of frostbite, even though my feet are warm to the

touch. At first my feet burned, but for the past few years they have been

painfully frozen. When they burned I could cool them a little. Now I can't

warm them no matter what I try.

There are occasional pains that feel like bee stings, but those are less

common.

My neuro says the various types of nerve pain is caused by my nerves dying

and sending false messages. It's not like back pain when you've strained your

back, nor like arthritis pain. It's in the nerves, not the muscles or the

skeleton.

Most people don't know anything is going on with me unless they see me jump

or jerk involuntarily. I keep as active as possible, but the nerve pain is

always with me.

That's my story on nerve pain.

>>> Hi Patti, for me the nerve pain is the constant burning in my feet and

legs, now thighs too. But yet they are cold all the time (hands and feet).

My hands/feet get cold even in 90 degree weather. And the sharp jabbing

pains that feel like someone has stuck me with a hat pin! Sometimes they are

on surface of skin, those are not so bad, but mostly they are deep into the

skin just like being stabbed with something narrow and very sharp. I get

them on feet, ankles, lower legs, thighs, hips, waist, rib cage area,

breasts, chest and tips of my fingers. I get those all the time now. Then

there is the sudden electric shocks I get, its just like being shocked with

110 electricity for a split second and makes me cry out, (very embarrassing)

and can bring tears fast! I call them lightening strikes! That's how it

feels to me. And I can actually feel as if electricity is passing thru me

and out finger tips, and it leaves a zinging/vibrating sensation for a few

seconds after it happens. Or maybe that's the after affects my body is

feeling trying to adjust to the nerves going haywire all over suddenly? I

have no clu, just know I wish they would go away! LOL that's my nerve pain,

I won't even go into the ones Kat mentioned, joints/muscles, tendons! If I

listed where, what and how it hurts, LOL....it would be a shorter list to

list what doesn't hurt at times! :) Thankfully, not everything hurts at

the same time too often, those are the days/nights, that are the worst.

I get electrical shocks. And your face or your body can't camouflage what

just happened. No matter what you are doing... it demands your immediate

attention. I often yell at my body and tell it to quit it... we are suppose

to be kind to each other... Good thing others don't hear me doing that, they

would probably think I am nuts. Ok... maybe I am.. but that is another

issue.

I also have a thickness in my fingers... like they have been frostbit for

years. But that is not really a pain.. but a lack of feeling.

LOL.... I talk to myself to, but that's ok, cuz as my grandmother would say

when asked who she was talking to when she talked to herself, her reply, a

sensible person! LOL, ~>Becky M.

Remember that many CMTers never have nerve pain!

You may be one of the fortunate ones.

I forgot to mention involuntary gasps and groans that often accompany my

wrenching spasms, by the way. Embarrassing, as Becky said. It's not something

we dwell on, it's just that it announces itself over and over all day every

day so we aren't allowed to forget we have it.

I've experienced bursitis, tendonitis, injured back, and so forth. The pain

from those is not the same as nerve pain. Nerve pain is irrational, in my

opinion.
