Guest guest
Differing from many with CMT, I have edema all the time to some extent. As with any edema it tends to be worse in heat. This is actually true with most people. Most only see a small difference, that rings do not fit as tight in cold weather. The heat causes the surface blood vessels to expand to increase blood flow in order to cool the body. Therefore there is some slight increase. ----- Original Message ----- From: Mommy2Adam@... Guest guest
Hi , No, my CMT is not affected by the weather, but my mood is. I think I have one of those " seasonal affective disorders " . As it happens, I'm on antidepressants anyway, cause depression runs in my family. Already being on antidepressants when diagnosed with CMT probably helped in my acceptance of it! Guest guest
Geri, I can relate. My sister (when we talked) used to get in me for not wanting to go to the beach or lake. She actually told people that I was a bad mother because I never took my kids to these places. I finally had to tell my adult niece that WE (me and my CMT kids) did not like to wear shorts, walk on sand, or climb into a boat. Not to mention I get sunburned like no other. Guest guest
I don't get depressed because I like the cooler weather. I feel more comfortable with jeans and sturdy shoes during the cool weather where as summertime, sandals and clothing that show my skinny legs don't appeal to me. What I find in the winter is that my hands really are almost usless. I have no muscles around my thumb and when my hands are cold they are just there but are useless. I can't do anything that involves the thumb and end up " pawing " at things. It is impossible to unbutton or hold a pen. Very frustrating!!!!
