Guest guest
Hi Lea, I have been on in the past without success, Doxy and another time Biaxin... I also was misdx......what a horrible experience. I've had just about every test imaginable too..... Its been a horrible 4 years. It wasn't until December 1998, that I was correctly Dx, and went to a LLMD....She is absolutely wonderful. She explained to me that it is very difficult to help those with Chronic Lyme. One of three things is being considered.. The immune system is so destroyed from all the antibiotics that it is actually attacking itself, or two there is a tremendous amount of toxins left behind and the body is having trouble ridding itself of them , or three there are so many strains of this bacteria, that the right antibiotic hasn't been found to kill it off, so the bugs are still there. I guess there can be several different strains in your body needing different antibiotics for each which will cause the Lyme to continue and continue. Treatment is kind of a Trial and Error, until all the strains of the bacteria are killed off. (I think there are something like 125 different strains) If I understood her correctly, they are trying to develop a test, where they can extract the bacteria and send it to a lab. The lab would then determine the strain or strains you have in your body, and recommend the antibiotic that would kill off that stain. or even a combination of antibiotics. Sounds like research is leaning towards the third theory....since they are trying to develop such a test. I understand in some of the hospitals where the research is going on, they are currently using a test that does that, but I guess it isn't perfected...therefore, not being released to private practice..... I just finished 10 weeks of the bicillin injections...Dose 2,400,000 40ml...I would get the injection in my tush, once a week.............very thick serum...but if given slowly, it just burns slightly.... Anyway, I keep improving with each day......in fact just recently my sleep returned to normal......I forgot what it was like to sleep through the night and wake refreshed......it feels great. I just hope, I'm not celebrating too soon........it takes awhile for the buggers to multiply. I'm taking Marta's advice though and moving on.........getting stronger.......and not dwelling on the negatives.........I'm looking forward to enjoying my summer.......something I haven't been able to do in some time..........Hope this helps......hang in there.....you too will find the right antibiotic. Good Luck, Connie in NWNJ
