Guest guest
HI, I am an occupational therapist with reactive arthritis and just came across this short article on treating diarrhea, but it seems it might fit in with the diet/food/leaky gut (porous intestines) syndrome connection with arthritis. Anybody eat a lot of bananas? Folk Remedy Effective for Childhood Diarrhea A folk remedy has been proven to relieve persistent diarrhea in children, Bangladesh researchers reported recently at the annual Digestive Disease Week meeting. Although feeding children green bananas is a traditional antidiarrheal remedy in Bangladesh and neighboring countries, Dr. G. H. Rabbani and colleagues from the International Center for Diarrhoeal Disease Research in Bangladesh have scientifically proven its effectiveness in a carefully designed clinical study. The researchers randomly assigned 62 infants who had diarrhea for more than 14 days to a rice-based diet containing unripe, green banana, pectin or a placebo for 7 days. At the end of the treatment period, stool quality was normal in 65 percent of the banana group, 42 percent of the pectin group and 19 percent in the placebo group. ``Children with persistent diarrhea have intestines that are too porous. We were able to show in our study that green bananas decrease intestinal porosity and that this is what leads to normalization of the stools,'' Rabbani explained in an interview with Reuters Health. ``Green bananas are an inexpensive and available food in most developing countries. We are currently teaching mothers how to use this food as a home-based therapy for childhood diarrhea,'' he said. ``Green bananas may soon be available as a nutraceutical, which would make this remedy easily accessible to mothers in developed as well as developing countries,'' Rabbani added. Nutraceuticals are processed foods bioengineered to have medicinal properties. Barb
Guest guest
I hope I am posting correctly! Hello! My name is Peggy and I am SAHM mom to Will who was one year on 7-7! He is my joy! I am also adoptive mother to Sydney who is almost 7. She has received all her vax (happened before I got her) and Will rec'd the first 2 or 3 rounds. I didn't want to do it, but allowed myself to be talked into it by dh. He has since agreed that we are NOT doing anymore! My question is this, how much harm has been done to him thus far by the vax he's rec'd? We are vegans and eat organically and we use herbs and diet to treat any maladies. Fortunately, he has only been sick once-we all got the flu on Valentine's Day. Ha! Any advice you have is appreciated and thanks in advance (and my apologies if I did this wrong!) Guest guest
Can anyone help with information on how to assist a client who has not been able to carry a embryo in the uterus. It is suspected that the clotting process of the lining of the uterus is the problem. She has had 5 attempts at IVF with no avail, the live cells are implanted and then she cannot keep the cells within the uterus. She is currently undertaking a series of tests to ascertain why the clotting process is not working. Hormonally she has been found to be normal. She is fit and healthy and has very low stress levels as she has given up work in order to reduce stress and have a successful pregnancy. Has anyone heard of anything like this before, or had any experience of this, any ideas which treatments I can give her on the scio? Any help is appreciated. Guest guest
I think that this sort of thing occurs more than we know. Sometimes there is a situation that happens of ph incompatibility. The way the sperm penetrate the egg is the sperm finds a weak spot and if there is compatability fertilization takes place. In a test tube this does not take place as the fertilization occurs forcefully. Both of the couple need to be worked on and a more alkaline diet to be taken up can assist. There could bee lots of trauma. My wife had a miscarriage 6 years ago and a d and c was performed and her reproductive system is still in termoil. Many of the tests that can be done don't give true reading as My wife one day she was gointg to ovulate in 2 days time went back in 2 days time and according to the tests had ovulated 5 days previous. Things that can help are alkaline foods no processed sugar also I would be tempted to give up all wheat as this current variety we now use globally is rubbish. I understand what it can be like do do this type of thing please let the group know the results. Re: What is integrated teaching? Posted by: " Vijay " drvijaythawani@... drvijaythawani Thu Oct 2, 2008 7:26 pm (PDT) Hi Smita,To solve such problems a master time table for the medical college was mooted. But what happened? We do have master time table prepared by PSM dept. All that does is it allots slots to various departments, which in turn distribute topics to own faculty in own old style! Come to the syllabus of medical university. All it gives is topics to be covered and the hours proposed. It does say that integrated teaching be practiced but is silent on the process - how. If you look at the serial topics in the university syllabus, for eg. of horizontal integration i.e.say subjects of second MBBS viz. Pathology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, Pharmacology, there is absolute no possibility of integration becuase each subject specialist has listed the topics in the traditional way.Come to MCI. That also recommends integrated teaching but does nothing to ensure that it is practiced. So from institution to university to the regulator, all have been so far ineffective, inefficient and incompetent in bringing in integrated teaching. It is sheer callousness and indifference which is not bringing in the desired change. I am ashamed that I am part of this system which only talks and does nothing much to improve the status. Do you remember that till couple of years back, every year I used to write one article on the existing problems in medical teaching in the college magazine, which used to be well received by the students? You know why I stopped ? Because the then Dean asked the Editor (who was unqualified in Journalism and a mere ceremonial head of the magazine) to edit my article (I am graduate in Journalism) " Making asses out of winning horses " and also insert a foot note below it that the institution did not agree with my views! It is insult to injury that when some suggestions are made to improve the teaching-learning, rather than examining them the effort is to silence the voice. Agreed that it is tough to bring in any change, every change is resisted, more so in a bureaucartic set up, specially in Govt run institutions, but it can be done (I did my masters in Sociology with Social Change as special subject).Over to moderator for comments.Vijay> > >> > > Dear friends,> > > Please have some initial background.> > > > > > " Knowledge Learnt in Isolation is Rapidly Forgotten " > > > > > > Here comes the importance of integration. Integrated teaching in medical curriculum Posted by: " Bharat Gajjar " gajjarbm@... gajjarbm Fri Oct 3, 2008 1:58 am (PDT) Dear friends,Dr. Vijay has added some more advantages of integrated teaching.Dr Smita, Dr.Santosh, Dr. Desai agree for this type of teaching in principle.Wonderful job done by Dr.Geer, who has insisted for the same in pharmacy curriculum as well.Congratulations,Dr. Geer for your vision. Some minor problems at implementation level can be taken care by sound planning, team work and will power. One problem of apprehension of open class reviewed by other faculty can be managed by serial planning of individual lectures based on integration method. To start with,we can focus on paraclinical and clinical teaching.Topics, which can not be taken in integration manner,i.e.General Pharmacology,Autonomic nervous system,Autacoids in Pharmacology as well as General Principles of Pathology and Microbiology can be taught initially as 'Foundation Course'. Then systemic teaching may be started- Blood, RS, CVS, CNS, GIT etc.We have to allot certain number of weeks to each system as per defined curriculum for each subject.Time table can be prepared by the committee composed of all HODs of concerned departments and one or two interested coordinators who are expert in methodology and planning. Sample time table is attached herewith.Bharat Gajjar,Moderator.DR. BHARAT GAJJAR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOLOGY, PRAMUKHSWAMI MEDICAL COLLEGE, KARAMSAD-388325.
