Marta,

I think its so unusual that all of us seem to be complaining of weight gain.

Mysellf included. about 75 lbs or more. But my son LOST weight and wouldn't

eat, and I read that anorexia is a symptom. Why is it that most of us adults

get the other eating disorder? Does anyone have any insight into that.

Also, It was so weird when I went in for surgery for a pick line in my

chest, the surgeon was not able to insert on because he told me I had a thick

chest wall of muscle (like a bodybuilder) and I almost went hysterical! I

never even played checkers! No less sports. Whats this all about? I do have

very thick muscle under all the fat.......Any ideas?

Hugs,

Gail

Gail,

When I was first sick with lyme I was 16. During those years I also lost

weight. My relaspe at 25 has put weight on me. I don't know what it is...

I she having stomach problems. At 16 I was hospitalized twice for vommiting.

(That could explain the weight loss)

Take care,

Chrisitne

Hi Gail,

I have an idea about your muscles -- How many kids do you have? My mom is in

her sixties, but she still has incredible upper body straight from carrying

kids (family of 6) and now grandchildren around for over thirty years. Just

a thought...

About your son -- Anorexia can be a symptom. But there could also be another

problem. My of us develop food sensitivities/allergies and don't know it.

So when we eat we end up feeling miserable and get to the point where we

don't want to eat anymore. This happened to me. I did an elimination diet

and found all the foods that were making me feel worse (i.e., diary, wheat)

and I have been feeling much better since. My stomach problems are gone and

I rarely have headaches (I use to have one everyday) and I have a really good

appetite again.

Take care,

----------------------------------------------------------Hi-

Like your son I have been losing weight and I was never big to begin

with! Im 5 7 and now weigh 110 lbs down from 130 back in July. And it

is not from lack of eating! For some reason I have a huge appetitie but

cant keep the weight on. The first doc I saw thought it was my Thyroid

but that came back within normal limits so guess it is the Lyme doing

something. I have noticed recently tho that i am retaining water.

Fingers and ankles are swollen frequently.

Whatever is going on is associated with the Lyme because i have weighed

130 since high school, and i graduated in 1980. Hope you find out

something soon.

Gail, I too have wondered why some people gain weight and some lose it.

My personal opinion is that those who lose weight might be co-infected.

When I've talked to people who have lost weight with this disease, they

usually say that they are coinfected. Maybe other people on this list

might be able to answer that question. Is your son being treated for

the other infections with lyme? It's very sad when I read hear about

families with lyme disease..... hope you and yor son have a speedy

rcovery.

Coinfected with Lyme and babesia, and I gained about 45 pounds.
