Key pushing along , after finishing 2 challenges in a row at the end

of 99' and the beginning of 00' my next 4 attempts at completing a challenge

kept hitting road blocks. I made it about 3 and 4 weeks each time until, as

you said, things fell apart. Keep on striving to reach your goals!

Shaw - hope your house gets warm soon! It also sounds like you have a plan going (writing down what you eat) that should help you get going. Good for you!

I have a suggestion: Why not find some little-kid friendly exercise videos,

like Elmo or Barbie, and do them with the appropriately-aged kids? This way

you'll get them *and you* in a little better shape and have fun doing it.

Sounds like too much to start with. Try the tapes with the kids, or give

yourself time to take a small walk around the block after the last one goes

home. Baby steps in the beginning, not a marathon!

Like I mentioned in another email today, it could be this never-ending

winter that's keeping you in " eating " mode. It's hard to think about weight

loss and exercise when it's *still* in the 20's in the morning, and now it's

April - rainy season, keeping you indoors even *longer*.

Thanks Sue for the advice. I went through all my " kid tapes " and found the

Elmo Exercise video. I haven't had that one out in a long time. It was

buried on the shelf with all the Barney tapes.

I am drinking lots of water. I have to use bottle water for my daycare so I

always have lots of bottled water on hand, plus it is tax deductable for me.

My biggest down fall is my soda---and I just bought 50 2-liter bottles. I

only paid the 5c deposit. I am addicted to coupons too!!!I will need to get

that out of here.

The weather here today is beautiful and I am getting ready to take my dog,

Harley out for a walk. I am going to my ex-husbands for a BBQ later today

and there is a playground right next door to him and my granddaughter always

takes me over there to watch her play so I know today exercise will not be a

problem.

I hope everyone has a great day today and I am so glad to have found this

group of great ladies.

Hello to a fellow daycare provider. How many children do you watch and could you exercise with your kids? I am planning to get a double stroller (2 actually) so my daughter and I can walk the kids to the park.

Also, there are some really fun kid exercise videos that you could do with older kids (preschoolers)

Personally, I like to take a walk as soon as the last child leaves. It is a great way to relax and talk to my girls about their day without any distractions.

Hi Glad to see there is another daycare provider here. I have four children, two are school age and the other two are three and four. Yes I have dug out the elmo tape and I will see how it works today. Plus with the weather starting to look more like spring, I have yard work to do and that should keep me moving for awhile. My days during the winter were from 5 am to sometimes 8 pm but now my hours have changed to 8 am to 5 pm. Two or three days a month I do the 8 to 8 days so most of the time I can look forward to my walks after the children go home. Hope everyone has a great week.

I was told I could eat plain yoghurt (Dannon or Mile High brands). Does your doctor or ditician say not to eat yoghurt since it is a dairy product?

In all the books I've read lately, it seems that the

healthiest people in our history and currently living

in today's world follow a high carb, low protein diet

(1/3 proteins from animal fat.. if possible, cut out

all animal fat)

Well, that's not strictly the case. There have been some

populations -- a case in point, the Inuit of the Far North -- who have

thrived on high meat, high fish, high fat, and low or no veggies. They

apparently had little if any heart disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, etc.

It would seem that there's more going on here -- perhaps genetics? Maybe

there's no hard and fast rule for diet for everyone.

I also stay away from the

microwave as much as possible since it too kills all

healthy elements in food and who knows what it does to

the molecules in the food?

I agree with this wholeheartedly!

This is what I have packed

for my lunch today: a granny smith (org.)chopped up

for breakfast, some herbal tea, celery (org.) and

carrots (org.) snack, for lunch I have a mixed cereal

of ezekiel grains, cinnamon oats, and ancient grains

with vanilla oatmeal milk and a banana. No meat there

My past experience has shown me that when I tried to adopt this sort of

diet, I got very sick. For me personally, more fat, more meat and fewer

carbs work best. I do try to limit the carbs I do eat to unrefined grains,

fruits and veggies.

Bottom line here -- people are not clones of each other. What works for

one, may not work for another. :o)

That's true too.. but they aren't " civilized " eating

the processed, inedible garbage that we do.

Hi ,

Yes, that's true. It goes without saying that no one should be eating

that crud. I was making the point that some folks do better on a high meat,

high fat diet rather than a vegetarian, high-carb diet. As I mentioned in

my post, when I do eat carbs they are fruits and veggies and unrefined

grains. I just don't eat a lot of fruits or grains.

.. Also your environment

has a lot to do with it. How polluted is the area you

live in? That causes a lot of stress on the body too.

Definitely. And it's getting harder and harder to get away from

pollution, frantic lifestyles, etc. I'm lucky to be living in a rural area

where I can walk in the woods and grow my own organic fruits and veggies.

PS. It is better to cook your meat slowly or quite

rare and not burnt to a crisp.. the more it is cooked,

the more it looses it's nutritional value.

Yep. My husband thinks I'm a wild animal. LOL I like my meat still

very rare. :o)

LOL you would think so would'nt you? Like how can I possibly stay this fat when I am constantly moving? The only thing that I have been able to figure out is that in order to loose weight you have to go above & beyond (burn more calories) than what your body is used to, & my body is used to a lot of activity. The other part of that would be that even though I am on the go all the time, I don't work at an aerobic level most of the time. So I am not getting my heart rate up to where it needs to be & then holding it there for any amount of time.

All of this is why I was wanting to get an exercise program going in Jan. (our slowest month) so that by the time things start picking back up in mid Feb. I would have already been showing a loss on the scale, making it easier to continue (motivation) with the exercise.

I am off work today and I am going to do a video right now. I think I am going to buy a stationary bike soon. Jill

I did JC briefly back in late August/early September and it was great!

I only did it for 2 weeks, though, as the food bill was just too high

for us to keep up with every week. Until now, I had forgotten about

all this...but it's part of what got me going. I just decided to do

it myself with WW/Lean Cuisine meals and so on. I wish you the best

of luck! :)

If it's like the Curves I used to belong to, it's not a class, it's a

circuit training. And there are many, MANY overweight people

there...I felt right at home and made some great friends!

JC won't let me start until they get permission from my doc. Hopefully that will come thru today as I am ready to get this started!

Curves does have a 6 week "weight management/loss" class, that is like a group of 4-6 usually learning how to eat, etc.... you can also just flat-out join for the exercise part with out the class.

I joined Curves 6 months ago and it is fabulous. Just had my weigh-in last night and I am down 17 lbs and 15 inches since joining there...

If JC needs doc permission, check for Curves too, make a copy of whatever so you have it if they are interested too... just in case.

BTW I am , been here since I - don't - know - when and have been doing the "diet" (aka eat better-I do allow for treats, etc from time to time) and exercise totally since last June - overall, I have lost 25 lbs and 45.5" (lots and lots of walking)...

Re-Start 6/15/05: 310 Current: 4/8/06: 284.2 -45.5"Mini Goal: 275

I thought all of them just gave you support, their product etc. Anyway... glad you're back! starting again

hi everyone!

I have'nt been around in a while am going to try to do this thing again. No, I am not going to try I am going to do it!Thats the spirit. Jump right in!

A few months ago I changed jobs from a very active job to one where I am sitting at a desk all day. The pay is double, but I am not very active at all.But if the pay is double maybe you can use some of the extra money and go do some kind of fun exercise once or twice a week like skating or something.

I have been trying to get motivated and going on a DIY plan, but not much luck there! LOL I have decided to give Craig a try. I signed up for the 6 week trial and then I'll reevaluate at that point. I am thinking if JC can give me the jumpstart to get going I may be able to continue on my own.I hope it works for you. i don't really know much about any of the diet plans. I just kinda do my own thing. But there is a lot of diet smart people here.

There is also a curves in my area I am thinking of joining. I think it is a class approach and I am so fat I am too embarassed to participate in a class. I am at my all time high of 330. If you join, dont be embarrased to participate. You paid your fees get your benifits. You might not be able to do as much as some of the people who is there and looks skinny as a rail to begin with but thats ok too.You are there to lose weight and I think for the most part people will be willing to try and help you. I know its hard not to be self consious. But I think after a week or two you will feel comfortable in the class.

JC won't let me start until they get permission from my doc. Hopefully that will come thru today as I am ready to get this started! I hope all goes well. Keep us posted!

Hi all,

IVe started treatment for the second time - those

familiar ribavarin headaches hit like a mach truck

within 24 hours - was in bed MOANING all day yesterday

and they say take tylenol only- thats like putting a

fire out with a drop of water. Well anyway Im doing

pegasys and riba combined with what is either vertex

or a placebo - this all free of charge as its a vertex

trial. I figure last time even thoug it wasnt SVR my

liver did get healed. OOOOHHH my head...Even if Im not

taking vertex this trial is going to help get it

approved and hopefully will help many ppl.

Remember drink tons of water it really does flush the

toxins. Im also going thru a divorce but I signed up

to treat anyway - I know I can handle both as Im

strong- it just wont happen real fast. In the mean

time my roomie (husband) helps take care of me.

Just have to keep tabs on stress levels.

Hi ,

It's good to hear from you. I'm sorry to hear you had been in the hospital again... twice. Hugs to you. Hope things are going better now and they have your meds stabile, somewhat. Good for you measuring your food again and getting the water going. The exercise will work itself out. Maybe you and dh can do that in the evenings after work (or in the morning before work?) - how is your diabetes doing, is that under control?

,

Have you been able to identify what triggers these attacks that send you

back? You don't have to reply to this - just think about it and see if you

and your doc can find ways for you to handle them better to avoid a " next

time " .

> I tried drinking water from the tap and it was just plane nasty.

Our local water tastes pretty good, but that's because of all the salt and

other crap in it. Once it gets filtered it tastes pretty bland and

flavorless, just like water should. I have to change the filter in half the

time the directions say to because it gets clogged up so fast.

> I had gotten down to around

270 and now I am back up to 318.8. It is hard to move around again.

Time to start up a gentle exercise program again. Drag hubby out to the

walking track at least 3 times a week; grab some hand weights or even just

some canned goods or bags of beans and do some arm work to build up a bit of

muscle; walk in place or just around the house for 5 minutes or so a few

times a day. Baby steps.
