Guest guest
Take him to the stores and let him 'try' them out. You may be surprised that even though he cannot read, he may be able to adapt. Just try one, you yourself do the prep work and direct him to some you feel may fit, the budget or his needs, something basic. Good case in point, my son, now 23 but then was about 17 - 18, wanted a cell phone, I was unsure he could really use it. We went through all the trouble to get the phone stuff for his speaking device because I was unsure as to his ability to use a cell phone. We did need the SIM card for it to work so I ordered a cheap phone through my cell phone company to get the SIM card. It came when I was at work, my son and daughter were here and when it arrived, he wanted to 'check it out'. They opened the box, put the cell phone together and voila! He started using it!?!?!? My son has been using the cell phone ever since, he taught himself to play games on it, do many functions, he helps me with my phone?!?!?!!? Strange but true!!!! My son is TBI(traumatic brain injury) but he is REALLY smart when it comes to technology and he figures out stuff I cant easily do. You would be amazed at the understanding these young men and women have for things that we as parents tend to overlook!! My son picked out his own digital camera, and he works wonderfully with it, now he wants a bigger one with an adjustable lens!! takes photographs, we make notecards and sell them at the gallery. Even some of his framed photos have sold. You just have to think outside the box! Good luck with your son!! Remember, there is a wonderful mind within every human being, you just have to let it find its way out! Kathy, mother of > > Has anyone found a cheap, easy to use digital camera? My son is 29 with Down Syndrome and he can not read so he needs an easy to use camera. Thanks, Shirley >
