As far as drinking tonic water, it has something to do with either the erlichiosis or babeosis, one of which the treatment for is quinine, which is in tonic water. <My white blood cell count is high, which indicates an active infection. I was very impressed with this doctor after one visit, but being a native New Yorker am naturally VERY cynical! LOL, and so will reserve final judgement until AFTER we get this latest blood work back and I see what he comes up with for a treatment plan...... Guest guest
Hi , I am going to respond to each of your 5 points just below where you wrote them. > >I was very lucky to get an appointment with a highly-regarded, Lyme-literate >MD in Tampa yesterday. I would appreciate all and any comments/suggestions on >the following: > > >1. For the weight gain, he told me to go on the Atkins diet for 2 weeks (no >carbohydrates or sugar). This is supposed to be an excellent diet for people with Lyme, if you already have a cholesterol problem (like I do) two weeks would never hurt. Talk to your doctor after your blood work comes back, if cholesterol is good, maybe you could 'pulse' this diet, like 2 weeks on, one week off. > >2. Stop taking the oral doxy (which isn't doing anything, besides making me >REALLY nauseous) and to start drinking tonic water. >(He sent blood to IGENEX to test for erlichiosis and babeosis.) I would be curious to find out if your nausea stops once you stop the doxy, I had severe nausea with my early Lyme, and was not on doxy at the time. I never, ever heard of drinking tonic water...did he give you a reason for this??? I am glad he is using IGENEX, it is supposed to be the best. > >3. That would depend on how reliable the tests you had done before were. I would wait till you get the IGENEX tests back before you are sure how old your infection is. > >4.
