I don't think that you should ever (under most circumstances anyhow)

have free Kittens or Pups to give away. When you take on the

responsibility of a pet, You are responsible for there food, water,

love, and not the least of which medical care. Please spay and neuter

your pets. To many unwanted animals are destroyed. If you cant afford

the proper care for a pet please dont own one,two or after the start

to bread a hell of a lot more. Just my 2 cents. Jeff

I agree with Jeff, PLEASE spay and neuter by 4-6 months. I am a white boxer

rescue person.

did you know that breeders kill the white ones in the litter because they feel

they are inferior?

I can't imagine anyone hurting any animal. If you are interested check out white

boxers on your

search engine. I have included pics of my Jack. Can you imagine destroying

something so precious?

I am going to throw in my two cents on this before we all get reminded that

we are probably way off topic. lol

We have two cats and two dogs. Planned for one (a chow/retriever mix) and

the rest somehow followed. We've loved and taken care of them for the past 8

years and given that we are both sick, they have given us a reason to get up

and do life one more day, when we just didn't think we could.

On March 16, 2001, at 5am, my husband woke up to our dog Lacy literally

standing on his chest, barking in his face, just frantic. He got up, ran to

the bathroom, and so it began for him.....the wonderful world of internal

bleeding. We were at the hospital in 20 minutes' he was intensive care for 3

days. Lacy sat by the door the entire 4 days that he was gone waiting for

him to come back. When he finally did come home, she took her position

beside him, and has been there ever since. " pet " ? I think not!

I'm glad this has come up about pets. Our dogs protect us. Our cats calm us

down.

We've had more issues in the last couple years than has pills.

Financially we are tapped out. Emotionally we are spent. People that don't

live with us, who are not ill have ever so kindly suggested at times that we

might want to think about letting go of our pets. Gee, that sounds good....

we've already lost so much....now let's start getting rid of family members.

That will solve all our problems, won't it?

I've had to learn over time, that no one walks in our shoes. People can have

similar experiences of course, none of us are unique in that, but this area

we are in now is unchartered territory and sometimes decisions will have to

made based on what's right for us and not what other people think. Somehow

everyone around here always eats.....

thanks for the opportunity to talk about such an important part of my life!

since we are already off topic, I will share with you. My love for my animals

goes far beyond anything I have ever felt before. I had a pitbull terrier named

Suzi that was my constant companion for 15 years, she was with me through all

the bad times including the murder of my 20 year old son in 1998. when she

passed in 1999 I thought I would die right along with her. the year before her

passing the kids got me a 10 week old female pit, I named her Lulu, Suzi raised

her for a year just like an adoptive mother, so after suzi passed away I got my

white boxer Jacky and Lulu has raised him for 2 years now. If I didn't have my

" kids " to get up for every morning, I'm not sure I would be here. They teach us

1 incredible lesson in unconditional love. When my husband leaves for work in

the morning they both come to check on me.

Okay I will stop now with one last thing, I have survived this dis-ease for 20

years now and without the love of my pets I don't know how I would have done it.

peace,

Joalle

I suppose pets are really not off topic if they help us survive through

the rough times of our Hep. C. I have a yorkie, a chihuahua, a beagle

and 2 cats. They are my babies. They keep me going and alive. They know

when I feel bad and have a fever. When I lay down they surround me and

protect me. They wear me out at times but if they didn't keep me active,

I'd probably die. They are my life.

I looked at him to see if he was just being funny but he was quite serious

and the young Man at the counter seemed to act like it does happen and there

were alot of snake lovers in there buying mice and live feeder things soooo I

got the creeps and those reptile stores do give me the creeps so I got outa

there fast! luckily my kids were not with me. I just thought I have to get

out and TELL EVERYONE I KNOW! - Kerry

Kelli,

You are so right on about animals and our health. There are two groups I am

familiar with, Therapy Dogs International and Delta Pet Partners. My current

and last dog were certified by them, and we volunteer with patients in a

physical rehab facility. My dogs have been wonderful in knowing what people

need from them. Sally (now deceased) brought a young man out of an irreversible

coma, and laid on top of a young man who was dying of something called JC virus

(much more virulent than Hep C, my cousin has it now). She gave one hope and

gave one peace - I just stood back and watched God and Sally perform miracles.

But she was not sympathetic to me.

Now I have Bobby, he has yet to do anything remarkable in therapy, but he is so

in tune with me. If I am having one of my days where the fatigue is really

getting to me. he brings me all his favorite toys, as it to " tempt " me with

them. And he gives me all kinds of kisses to get me going. And you know what, a

lot of times, it works!

I have friends who have 22 large snakes, and they never feed them anything

except mice and rats. I think it's a rare person who would get kittens and

puppies for their snake. People need to spay or neuter their pets and there

would not be so many " free " puppies and kittens out there for such things

tohappen to. I know kittens and puppies are adorable, but there are way too

many out there who die needlessly every year.

speaking of puppies, my guide dog, who is just a big loving puppy, has to have

an endoscopy this Wednesday. the vets are checking for irritable bowel disease

or cancer. she has been sick off and on since the seventh of March.

greg gave blood for his big blood workup last Friday, five tubes. And, this

thursday, he has an ultrasound on the mass in his liver; this will be the third

ultrasound. We will get all the results on the eleventh of april. this coming

Friday will be shot fourteen. he is still suffering bad side effects, some days

worse than others, but i guess that's how life will be for awhile.

our 27-year-old daughter who had brain surgery, spine surgery, gall bladder

surgery, and hand surgery within four months of each other is now having some

serious nerve problems including burning pain in her spine and numbness of her

feet and hands. doctors think she has rsd, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, but

they don't seem to know what to do to help her.

I have tried to keep up with the list. Hope all is well.
