Guest guest
Hi Everybody ~~ Got the results of my liver enzyme re-check and my liver enzymes are still coming in within normal ranges!!!! As I understand it, this means that no new scarring is taking place within the liver as high liver enzymes are what cause the scarring. Someone correct me if I've got the wrong idea here. Anyway, I am really greatful they are in normal ranges. I'm to be retested in another 2 months, and again 2 months following that test. In the meantime, I have an follow-up appointment scheduled with the Hep C clinic on September 13, to discuss the scheduling of the liver biopsy. Apparently this is a necessary step in getting on the schedule. They are running behind on the biopsies so it probably wouldn't be before October some time. My best friend who beat the dragon is going to pay for the liver biopsy part that Medicare doesn't cover for me. What a friend! Anyway, I'll keep you posted. Warm Regards,
Guest guest
Actually it is the other way around it is liver cells dying/becoming damaged that release the enzymes. It is normal for a certain amount of liver cells to die which is why healthy people also have these enzymes present. With hcv our liver cells are dying at a higher rate which gives us the elevated enzyme levels. Regardless it is certainly a good sign that they are within normal ranges. -dz- wrote: Hi Everybody ~~ Got the results of my liver enzyme re-check and my liver enzymes are still coming in within normal ranges!!!! Guest guest
Thanks for the info Dave. I was wondering about that because my liver enzymes were low 1 year before diagnosis and not all that high at the time of diagnosis. But my biopsy showed I was almost at stage 2 liver damage. Guest guest
I am new to the group. I thought I would add my experience. My liver enzymes were normal or slightly elevated. When I went in for the biopsy, the results came back showing moderate liver damage. > > From: Sharon Zeis <szeis_1@...> > Date: 2002/09/05 Thu AM 09:23:42 EDT > > Subject: Re: [ ] Liver Enzyme Results > > > Thanks for the info Dave.
