Hi, Lynne-

I'm coming out of lurkdom to answer your question.

My biopsy results [Oct. 2002] showed no abnormalities. AST and ALT

are in the high 60s, slightly above normal. High viral load. My

gastro gave me the option of taking treatment saying that it would

probably knock the virus out of my system but didn't really recommend

it. We agreed that the treatment that should be available a few

years down the line may be more effective with fewer sides. In the

meantime, I see him periodically so that my liver values can be

monitored and I take milk thistle extract three times a day, seven

days a week. Other than slight chronic fatigue, minor sore throat,

slightly runny nose and periodic bouts of low-grade fever [my temp

late this afternoon was 98.8], I'm showing no symptoms.

That's my story.

Good luck with your treatments and I hope that you and your DH can

patch things up.

Gee my AST is 30, and ALT is 42 which are normal ranges.

Does the milk thistle help, can you notice a difference? Inquire ring mind

must know. :)

I will still go ahead this Friday, my main complaint is the tiredness all

the time. Have zip for energy. I am 48 and want to get back into doing the

active life thing. And I can't do yard without wanting to take a nap. Plus

my poor dogs are suffering because of it, they need their active mom back so

we can go do agility again.

Remember we are here for you, and I wish happiness in the new year. Lynne

There are no silly questions. Most of us are type 1, which has a lesser chance of success with this treatment. We all have to weigh our chances of success against the difficulty of the treatment. Some people tolerate the treatment better than others. -dz-Lynne Dunham <lynne@...> wrote:

I start mine of Friday and have 90% odds of eliminating this disease. I am a gena 3a and liver biopsy was grade 1. Now my doc said some people can wait when it is at this stage. But I opted to go ahead to try to kill it before is does more damage, and the odds are more in my favor. But since Hep stays with us for life and my chances any different that opted to wait.

I promise I will stop asking the silly questions. Really. Lynne

There was quite some time between the time I tested positive for hcv, and did the PCR and liver biopsy.. I took milk thistle before treatment and I had brought my ast/alt levels down quite a bit with milk thistle alone. -dz-Lynne Dunham <lynne@...> wrote:

Lynne-

I don't know how much the milk thisle helps. I started taking it

before I was dx with HCV, since I knew that the years of drinking and

drug use must have damaged my liver. I can't say that I noticed any

difference when I started taking it, but over the past few months as

I've learned more about the symptoms of hep c, I've reevaluated many

of the symptoms that I've had that I thought were caused by other

ailments e.g. the chronic slight cold-like symptoms that I assumed

were caused by a pollen allergy and for which I was taking

homeopathic allergy meds. I stopped taking the allergy meds last time

I had what I thought was a flare up and my symptoms didn't get any

worse so I now think that it's the hep c causing those symptoms.

A long answer to your question, which I hope helped. =8-D
