[ ] results ?????

Hi allI got a copy of my results from my first tests on 18 Nov and wonderedif someone could translate them for me:Total bilirubin 12 umol/L [1.7-20.5 norm] If this is high or positive there are scads of things it could mean, and I do mean scads...!!!!!

Aspartate Transaminase 68 U/L [8-20 norm female less than 60 years of age] Ditto for this...one scads of things including liver disease!!!!!

Alanine transaminase 145 U/L [norm 4-35] Ditto for this one!!!!!!

Alkaline Phosphate 164 U/L [depends on type of test, but all 3 say you are high. Bodansky 10.7-21.5 / King-Armstrong 28.4-92.3 / Bessey-Lowry-Brock 13.3-38.3]

Gamma glutanyl trans 36 U/L [norm 4-33]

Total protein 79.7 g/L [normal 60-80 gl]

Albumin 41.1 g/L [norm 34-48 or 3 at rest]

Globulin 38.6 g/L [ norm 2-12 gl]What does it all mean and which ones do I have to watch for? I had another test after this one which my doctor said was a little better. Thanks in advanceSueX

OK, here is the thing... there are so many things that a high level or positive can represent from stuff you inhaled to drugs or food you are ingesting that you really have to get the doc to explain to you or get a nursing book for lab procedures which is what I have. The tests, by themselves are only indicative that something is wrong.... and then as I understand it, even normal test results cannot be trusted because the liver can work just fine even when damaged.

Sorry I can't give you any more info.

Hello,

I now prefer computer viruses over what I've got in my body LOL - but, just a suggestion ... check out this URL:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

That site allowed me to fix a neighbor's computer that was in *real* trouble. My own tools couldn't clean everything and I wasn't allowed into the registry editor (locked out by administrator - in Win98!).

After the on-line scan and delousing, I was able to edit the registry and restore the home page (for some reason, I could only make the Microsoft site the home page from Outlook Express). All was clean at that point and I installed a firewall and anti-virus for her (her alleged tech removed them and never re-installed. She was on broadband!).

Give the site a try and I'll bet it cleans your computer.

Now, if I could only have an on-line scan to remove the hep-C, I'd be happy ;)

Best regards from Rochester, NY

Jim

Re: [ ] results ?????

Hi, I've been meaning to reply to you, but I've had problems with a few pesky viruses, and the new software I've installed to battle it. I've had VCOM system utilities and I used to like them, before they got bought out by VCOM, but they don't seem to keep the viruses at bay. They kept warning me that they found a virus and were unable to remove it. What good is that? The firewall, kept me from browsing the internet half the time. I'm trying Mcafee again and Eudora for an email utility. All the viruses seem to be written for Outlook. When I got my results, the high and low ends of the acceptable normal range for all those items were listed and those out of normal range were highlighted. It's confusing because sometimes they use different units of measurement. I'll see what I can find in my files. Anyway, this is about you, not me.... Don't sweat slight elevations, they don't necessarily mirror liver damage. Twice as highThe bilirubin, aspartate transaminase (I believe known as AST) and the alanine Transaminase (I believe known as ALT) which are watched the most closely.

That's what we're here for. I had no permanent liver damage either. We

are lucky, the liver is a very resilient organ. Unless the ultrasound has

improved since I was on treatment (over 4 years ago) you need a biopsy to

accurately guage any liver damage. Mine came back with mild inflammation,

but now fibrosis and I had about the same symptoms as you. Symptoms only

come late in the progression of the disease, even without significant

liver damage. (Sorry to inform you, not doing the biopsy does not excuse

you from treatment... :-D) A few years ago, they did not recommend

the treatment to people with advanced liver damage, so the biopsy was

necessary to determine whether you were a good candidate for the

treatment. Now they know that even advanced cases can gain significant

improvement with the treatment. Good luck. -dz-

Hi

Thanks for the advice all and sorry to hear about your pc probs

Now I realise what the figures in brackets are...D'OH !!!LOL

Bilirubin 12 (5-17)

ALT 145 (5-40)

AST 68 (6-37)

There that's better.....now I have my consultant's appointment on 19

Jan when they will do another LFT test and I have had the results of

my ultrasound scan which said there was NO DAMAGE to my liver?

(surprisingly)....so if there's no damage what are all these other

symptoms that I have all about? Headaches, fatigue, nausea,

diarrhoea, muscle pain/weakness, memory loss (might just be my age

LOL), shoulder pains, upper back pain, hip pain blah blah blah???

etc

Do you think that if they decide not to do a biopsy will they still

give me the Treatment?

Thanks and have a lovely day

ps I thought I went a little yellow last week but I may just be

Thanks for the info....was your treatment successful, are you still

clear? If so do you still have all those symptoms? Would you say it

was worth having the treatment when you weigh all the symptoms.side

effects up?

I asked the same question about whether the scan would show cirrhosis

and she said yes but that my liver 'looked' perfectly healthy?? Yes

I have my doubts too so we will see what the consultant suggests.

Cheers

My treatment was successful and I had my last test 3 years after completion of treatment and was still undetectable. The symptoms cleared up in a month or 2 after finishing the treatment. I would say it was worth it. I was undetectable at 60 mos into treatment and I had already decided that I would try a second round if necessary (after a vacation from it), before I finished. Luckily I did not have to make that decision. -dz-susiedizzy <susiedizzy@...> wrote:

Sounds like you have it well thought out. Let's hope for a better treatment for you, meanwhile keep on doing what you're doing!! I brought my alt/ast counts down to normal range before I started treatment, just with milk thistle and a couple other herbs (burdock root, etc.) -dz-bambii <bambii320@...> wrote:

I had a biopsy a few months ago and my liver is in perfect condition and I too have all of the below symptoms and then some, docs only explanation is that after 20+ yrs with this disease and my viral load is pretty high at the moment it is taxing on the body. I try to just keep to a good regimine of diet, excercise, and supplements, ie milk thistle and the such and I do feel much better keeping my system clean and healthy. The doc has suggested low doses of treatment to bring the viral load down but I did full treatment a few yrs ago and I will pass, quality of life issue for me as I am a 1A - non responder to all availble treatment. But I have every faith that if I can stay healthy long enough something better is coming down the pike for my genome type. Good luck to you and chin up it takes a daily dose of good attitude to fight this successfully.

Thank you. I have a lot to be grateful for. I know how you feel, that

year seemed like a long time, but it did pass. I know the quality of life

does suffer a bit, but hopefully you get your share of good days along

the way. -dz-
