I went in yesterday to have an injection into my spine for my back problems. The dr says it's diagnostic & theruputic (sp?) They injected some kind of steroid into my SI (sacro iliac) joint. If it doesn't help, that means the pain is generated from elsewhere. If it does, it's temporary at best, but still may help in the treatment. The best I could hope for is to repeat this procedure every 3 mos to kill the pain. I guess the other angle is that if I am pain free for a while, I can work on strengthening the muscles in that area and maybe further take some of the strain off that joint.

So far, so good. I managed the pain of the procedure pretty well and laid out all day yesterday. I'm back at work now. They say after the initial antisthetic wears off, I could be in for increased pain for a while until the steroid kicks in, which could take up to 5 days. Just light pain so far, which is a good thing, since I forgot to bring in my pain pills. Hope everybody is doing well. -dz-

Oh Dave I will thinking of you. Hope this works for you sounds so much better than having the surgery if that can be helped.

Thanks, I'm trying to avoid the surgery at all costs. My doctor doesn't recommend the disc fusion surgery, he says it's only successfull about 50% of the time. -dz-Lynne Dunham <lynne@...> wrote:

Dave, I am sorry to hear this and hope they call you back soon, if not recall them. Take care dear, Lynne

Hi all. Those of you that have been around for a while, have probably heard me complain of my back. I've been through several procefdures now and had another one Friday. It's called medial branch neurotomy. They put needles in my back and "stimulate" (not the word I would have chosen) the nerves to make sure they're in the right spot, and burn them. The procedure seemed to have gone well, but now I have a pain in my neck/shoulder on the left side. The nerves going down to my lower lumbar were on the right. I don't know if there is any relationship or not. I have called the dr. It could just be a coincidence. So far it seems they may have helped the back pain. Well, thanks for listening. Later, -dz-
