Glad to hear of your successful treatment. I would talk to your doctor, maybe you should go back on the paxil for a while. I weaned myself off of mine by going half for a while, like you did (I was on wellbutrin, not paxil), then I started every other day for a while. People vary so much in their reactions to antidepressants. Good luck and have a nice vacation. It took me about a month to start to feel I had passed the effects of the treatment, but I continued on the antidepressant a little longer. -dz-michaelmrrsy <michaelmrrsy@...> wrote:

Hi,I am new to this group(I wish I had discovered it sooner). I just finished 6 months of combination therapy and thank God my viral load count is 0. In the beginning my doctor suggested anti depressants because it is very difficult mentally. I said I would like to try w/out anti depressants and about 3weeks into the treatment after trying to be strong and do too much I awoke with canker sores all over the inside of my mouth and tongue. I found myself in the fetal position all weekend crying thinking I should kill myself rather than endure this for 6 months. I had my doctor paged and he put me on 20 mg of paxil and within 4 days I was better already and 2 weeks I felt a very dramatic improvement and I believe I never would have made it without the paxil. I finished the treatment 2 weeks ago and my doctor

told me to take half (10 mg) for 1 to 2 weeks and then stop. He didn't mention side effects. I took the 10 mg for 10 days and 3 days ago I stopped the paxil. Yesterday, after not sleeping well and crazy dreams I got up with a horrendous headache and by the end of the day I was dizzy and feeling weird. I didn't sleep well again and this morning I thought I was having a stroke. There are like electricity jolts in my brain all day today and dizzy spells come with the jolts. I feel very weird and irritable. I called my doctor and and read onlie this is normal detox from Paxil. Does anyone have experience with this and how long this should last??? Also, how long to really feeling normal after the combination therapy. I booked a flight down to Florida for next Tue. the 16th to celebrate the end of this stuff and I am worried I jumped the gun and wont be able to enjoy it feeling like this. I appreciate hearing some

experience.Thank You

Being divorced, I only got to see my son so much, and we did do a camping vacation while I was on the treatment. I wasn't able to be as active as I would have liked, but just the removal of the day to day stress was a great plus. I think you'll manage to enjoy your Florida trip... -dz-Sharon Zeis <szeis_1@...> wrote:

I was on prozac before treatment and have never gone off, so I can't help you there.

I went on a campimg trip a couple of weeks after treatment and ot was great. I wasn't 100%, but I took it easy and was fine. Go to Florida, relax and enjoy. You've certainly earned it.

Hello ...congratulations on your successful treatment!

That's terrific...

I was on Paxil after the birth of my third child for a about six months.

Because this medication has such a long half life...it took me around

six weeks to feel like it was getting out of my system.

These medications work by causing the neurons in your brain to fire

excessively. Unfortunately your body interprets the firing as a "problem"

and actually destroys some of the neurons in the process.

So, when you remove the medication, and the neurons go back to the

normal rate of firing...there are less of them, and thats why we go thru

the withdrawal process. Sometimes they regenerate, and sometimes

they don't. Most often, the remaining neurons compensate for the lost

ones, but it can take awhile before they get the message.

So, hang in there! it gets better...

Whatever you do...try not to start taking again, it will make the

whole process take longer.

good luck!

April.
