Guest guest
I see where the SAMe is good for athritis and depression, but it dosen't say anything about liver. My only question would be it's effect, and or toxicity on the liver. Dreams are whispers from the soul.Eddie
Guest guest
They can vary quite a bit. They're influenced by any number of things. SAMe is an herbal treatment that is supposed to be helpful against depression. I have never tried it myself.Lynne Dunham <lynne@...> wrote: Do most ALT's differ from test to test? Guest guest
Talk about feeling compelled to respond... yes I have quite an interesting story for you n SAM-e. Are ALT's that liver function test where a result of 12-15 is normal?? I always forget what that is.... anyways... about 2 years ago when I had been feeling sick, run down, so tired I couldn't move, achey etc for weeks on end, I finally went to my doctor. I was assuming it was a flare up of my Fibromyalgia. She told me that she suspected such an intense flare up was more likely the HepC, which may or may not be triggering the Fibro to bother me worse... so she did a test on *that* level, ( the 12-15 thing, whatever it is) and my level came back a 57 and her comment was "Oh yeah no wonder you feel like crap". Anyways... now you must also understand something else... my doctor herself also has Hepatitis C and Chronic Fatique Syndrome, by the way.. and is a 42 year old female. So anyways... she then tells me that she has been reccomending some of her HepC patients to try talking increased doses of SAM-e and that she had started it herself, due to some reports she had found... so far (after a month or so) she and several patients were feeling much better. Well of course my attitude is, if it can't do any harm, I will give anything a try. So instead of the normal reccomended dose of 200mg a day, I was to start with 600mg for a week and then lower it to 400mg daily... I did. Now please also understand, the personal results I had that I am about to share is what my doctor had happened to EVERY SINGLE patient who tried it, including herself. She also had me come back for blood tests: After 2 weeks: I was feeling alive and had more energy. After 4 weeks: I felt normal. After 6 weeks: Blood tests levels went from 67 to 42. After 12 weeks: Blood tests levels went to 34. After 16 weeks: Blood tests levels went to 28. After 20 weeks: Blood tests levels went to 18. After 24 weeks: Blood tests levels went to 15. NORMAL LEVELS! After 6 months, they could not find the Hepatitis C virus active in my system. Now... interestingly... like when Hubby got laid off and I couldn't afford spending $40 a week on buying it... within 3-4 months, I felt like shit again and the levels were back up. When I stay on it, the levels stay low and I feel good, when I go off it, I spike up and have flare ups again. Looking at the boxes, the SAM-e claims to be a "Mood Stabalizer... Promote Healthy Joints... and... Promote Healthy Liver Functions....". Apparently there is something in the SAM-e that basically somehow puts the HepC into a remission type phase. I actually called one of the main companies that make it (Nature Made) to inquire as to whether they were aware of this, and the possibility of there being something VERY important medically in the composition of the product and HepC, but well.... let's just say, you guys would scream bloody murder if I told you what they said to me. Now obviously, I can't claim it would have the same miracle results for every person... all I can tell you is that for me, my doctor herself and at least 16 other HepC patients my doctor has... the results were nothing short of a miracle. Guest guest
My reg doc took me of the cholesterol meds until I see the liver doc. I had just started a work-out routine before I found out the news. Is it good to exercise with Hep-C ? Can you control cholesterol with Hep-C ? > Talk about feeling compelled to respond... yes I have quite an interesting story for you n SAM-e. > Are ALT's that liver function test where a result of 12-15 is normal?? Guest guest
I looked at my boxes again... don't ask me why.... but the actual name brand of Natures Made SAM-e does only say about mood/depression and joingts... but the box that is the *generic* WalGreens version of it says that and the Liver Functions comment... and both have 100% exactly the same ingredients... dunno why the ones box doesn't say anything. And here is a couple places Natrue Mades SAM-e is talked about online where they mention the liver. Several of them mention something about this "sulfur-containing compounds such as glutathione, a powerful antioxidant that helps fight off substances that damage cells, particularly in the liver." http://www.naturemade.com/productdatabase/prd_prod.asp?productid=71 http://www.drugstore.com/qxb7894_333181_sespider/nature_made/nature_made.htm Re: [ ] Re: ALT's and SAMe I see where the SAMe is good for athritis and depression, but it dosen't say anything about liver. Guest guest
I don't know the answer about the cholesterol, but exercise is an excellent idea. Though you may not find the energy for it. I think if I would have been a little more disciplined about my exercise, I would have had more energy. -dz-Greg <lyno46@...> wrote: My reg doc took me of the cholesterol meds until I see the liver doc.I had just started a work-out routine before I found out the news.Is it good to exercise with Hep-C ? Guest guest
The cholesterol meds are hard on the liver. My last liver work-up was in Sept. all was fine but that was before I knew I was Hep C pos. The exercise feels great so far maybe should enjoy it while I can.My fear was that the exercise would cause more RBC distruction. > > Talk about feeling compelled to respond... yes I have quite an > interesting story for you n SAM-e. > > Are ALT's that liver function test where a result of 12-15 is > normal?? Guest guest
The results are great. I hope you find a way to stay with the treatment. It's scary to think good treatment could be available but out of reach. I hope my Doctor is knowledgable. > Talk about feeling compelled to respond... yes I have quite an interesting story for you n SAM-e. > Are ALT's that liver function test where a result of 12-15 is normal??
