Guest guest
I'm sure it's always a good idea to watch our diets! However, if you have a great deal of liver damage already, animal protein can cause trouble, as it is very difficult for an unhealthy liver to break down. In general, the more the food is processed, the more difficult it will be to filter out of your system. I have been told by my doc to just "keep it clean". Stay with foods that are found in nature, not in a box. As far as protein goes...try to incorporate some whey protein into my day, and keep the animal protein to only 5 to 7% of my total calories. She recommended that I NOT take too many supplements, because it puts additional strain on the liver. Instead, try to get what you need in your diet. I take milk thistle two or three times a week in some green tea. Fluid intake is the most difficult for me...I seem to have no thirst at all. To help, I eat fruits and veggies that have a high water content..like celery and green peppers and apples. That helps a bunch! And if I heat my water and put some lemon to it, I can get more in. But, keep in mind that your body can only absorb about six ounces of water per hour...don't over-drink, the rest will just flush out important minerals! I was given a list of herbs that are no no's and Valerian is one of them, so I would be sure to ask about taking that one. Is it difficult for you to fall asleep? or to stay asleep? April.. Guest guest
The only hard and fast restriction my doctor put me on was no alcohol, and no vitamins with "added iron". Any caffeine will have to be accompanied by extra water consumption (assuming you are on the interferon treatment). Otherwise just a good diet, try to keep fatty foods and sugar on the lower side. -dz-susiedizzy <susiedizzy@...> wrote: Morning all hope you all had a nice weekend. Just wondering do we have to watch our diet? What foods do we have to avoid...apart from the obvious fatty ones as I am not sure ??Also what medicines are best to avoid? What about herbal preparations too I heard you have to be careful? I bought something called Livercare herbal remedy with Milk Thistle, Dandelion, Barberry, Taurine, Inositol, Methionine Artichoke powder and Turmeric??? and because I don't sleep very well sometimes a Kalms herbal sleep remedy with valerian and gentian?? Thank you and group hugSueX

Guest guest
Well, let’s not get too hasty… J I wouldn’t say you had to give up chocolate altogether.. With the weight loss we all seem to encounter, I could probably rationalize a little chocolate now and then. –dz- [ ] Re: More questions.....sorry Thanks a lot for the advice I didn't know about the 'iron' thing....I'm not on any meds (yet) but not had any alcohol, caffeine or cigs at all...and OH NO that means I have to give up Chocolate!!!! aggghhhh! ;-) Sue > Morning all hope you all had a nice weekend. > Just wondering do we have to watch our diet? Guest guest
:-)))))))) I am so glad to hear it.....mind you I have taken April's advice and tried not to eat anything out of packets or jars....I have been eating fresh fish, veg and fruit...and amazingly I feel a lot better the last couple of days ! Still can't give up tea but I only have one cup of decaff coffee per day...trying to drink water but I think someone mentioned the lack of thirst...(I wondered why I very rarely got thirsty)...now I know I will make a conscious effort! Right now I've been a good girl I'm off to raid the kids chocolate cupboard LOL thanks for the advice and comments be happy Sue X > > Morning all hope you all had a nice weekend. > > Just wondering do we have to watch our diet?
