The Dr. said he is afraid if they keep him on it he will go into liver failure. His WBC & platelet counts are slightly low. Can the medication cause this? Thanks,Darlene

Guest guest
Hi Darlene Both the virus and the treatment can cause wbc and platelets to be low. My platelets dropped as low as 44,000 while on the treatment. [ ] AST/ALT??????????? > after 13 weeks of the peg-intron, they took Charlie off of it. His AST is > 230 and the ALT is 302. Guest guest
My wbc went down almost to the point of having to stop the treatment and then started back up again. They stayed a little bit low throughout, I guess that's a big part of the fatigue. -dz- --- <ralexan@...> wrote: > Hi Darlene > > Both the virus and the treatment can cause wbc and > platelets to be low. Guest guest
There must be more to it than that. They will take you off the meds if your blood counts drop too low, but the AST and ALT counts should not be a factor in that decision. The medication IS hard on your body in many ways, though. Unfortunately we have found that doctors don't always seem to care to explain the details to us, they think we're too dense to understand, or they're too busy to take the time. -dz- --- C & D Doepp <amber1@...> wrote: > after 13 weeks of the peg-intron, they took Charlie > off of it. Guest guest
Darlene Low platelets are the main reason I can't do treatment...... my platelet level runs about 20 to 30 thousand....... it should be @ about 300,000 If I could get up to a steady 50 I could've done treatment - but haven't been @ that level since '95 My ALT & AST have always hung out @ about 3x the normal levels arlene C & D Doepp wrote: > after 13 weeks of the peg-intron, they took Charlie off of it.
