I have been trying for over 2 years to get SSD..I am waiting as we speak to hear from my attorney..Have you been before a judge yet and what state are you from??? I am waiting for the judge's decision..It has beeen months since I went before him..Patience is a virtue they say but mine is wearing out completely..

They say it automatically takes 5 months (at least) for the decision. I read further that they expect that you have money saved to take care of yourself for the short term. How many of us have 5 months worth of living expenses handy? When (and if) you do get it, you will get the backpay as well, as long as you can make do in the interim... My wife has rhuematoid arthritis and may need to apply, so I've been studying on it. She can make up to $500/mo and still be considered disabled. Right now she has a hard time working a 40 hour week consistantly. We would be hard pressed to make it for 5 months without her income. -dz-

this group helps us with anything...I know it's meant for Hep but anything we need to talk about we can...It helps us just make it through the day..I have Osteoarthritis..PTL no RA..My father suffered with that..I wish you and your hubby all the best..You are in my prayers...

Oh dz bless your heart, you and I could sit down and really have conversations. My husband has awful attacks of Palendromic Rhuematoid Arthritis. So bad its unreal sometimes. They have him on Solendack and Prednisone to try to control it and he breaks through. Now they are saying they have to lower the Steroids a bit as he is on to high a dosage and for to long and to expect more breakthrough attacks. To complicate matters he has some carpal tunnel from being a drywall finisher and as you can just imagine the RA likes to strike vicious there due to that. Then on top of it Post Polio Syndrome. They are saying to prepare in our minds to put him on disability. How many of us can go on no income while all this takes place and we play the rejection game. Sorry I know this is a Hep C list. I think this is effecting Greg deeply too. He was always there to help us. I can't drive as my vision is so poor. I was injured and my eye sight was effected in the head injury. Anyway, Greg would take his Dad into the ER so many times when we didn't know yet what it was. This big strong husband of mine would be wrung out in sweat from the intense pain. He has had some joints so affected that one got an infection from them draining it Staph and he was really sick from that. Anyway I wonder if that is part of Gregs denial is he always saw himself as there to help Dad. And he does not want to see it any other way. Greg is such a wonderful son. My wife is also on Prednisone. They keep raising and lowering her dosage. Her doctor has had her prepared for the eventuality of disability, too. At least he said he would work with her on it, so we know he's in our corner as far as the disability determination. -dz-

They actually have Bill on 4 or is it 5 medications now and still break through attacks. Yes I believe our doctors are sympathetic and supportive of disabilty. Only Bill is self employed so its a whole different ball game. He tried to buy disability insurance for his income. you are truly blessed to have such a wonderful son..My daughter (24) won't even speak to me and if she does all it she does is criticize me..I do miss my grandchildren though..She only lives about 45 minutes from here and won't let me see them..She even made sure when her daughter was born I was not allowed in the hosp.(she said due to my Hep)...But that's all ok because I keep praying one day she'll come around..

Yes it is ..I was so close to the oldest one..1st grandbaby ya know..She said I was never there for her..Never a mother much less a freind...Funny thing I was the one in the delivery room and the one who opened the door at all hours of the night to her and her 2 kids at the time when she had to place to go cause of her and her B/F fighting..Funny how I am the one who supported her and her kids for years but I guess it wasn't me after all huh?? Ok I'm not getting started..I just hope God opens her heart soon and gets her to come around..I have tried the rest is in his hands...

Well they are trying to wean Bill off of it slowly but every time they reduce more breakthrough attacks. I am not sure which he'd prefer to be bonkers from the steroids and not care or to be weaned and be sane enough to care. Harumph Medical Science is an imperfect thing. Yes I am, both of our sons are just wonderful to say the very least fine men you can be proud of. That is so sad that your daughter is missing out on all the wonderful times you could have shared. I really feel sorry for her. There is much to be learned from our moms. As for your grandchildren that is perhaps the saddest thing of all..... That's what they are doing with her. They are trying to get her off of it, but when it flares up they have had to up the dosage again and then wean her off again. Sometimes you have to wonder if the cure isn't worse than the disease... -dz-

I think that disability insurance you're talking about is if you are disabled AT work. I imagine he has to pay in to Social Security, so he should be eligible if he has paid in the minimum amount of quarters (even before he became self-employed). -dz-

That he has done. However many employers provide as a benefit a disability insurance if you will that helps till permanent disability is recognized and compensated through Social Security. people who've had liver transplants are immediately put on prednisone...I

have a friend who got her transplant in '93..... & it was just a year

ago she was finally taken (weaned) off of it. It was attacking her

kidneys & her heart!!

I know, I've read about prednisone on the net and it does seem an unfriendly drug. Much like interferon/ribavarin, it is tough for the body to tolerate. As far as we have come in science, medical treatments still are often an inexact science. I know my father was on coumadin to thin his blood and they had to constantly re-adjust the dosage. It ended up being an indirect cause of his death because of internal bleeding that wouldn't stop. Then again without it, he may have died sooner, who knows.... -dz-

I have to take Nadolol to prevent spontaneous internal or any other bleeding

& if I need some surgical thing done then I have to have vitamin K

shots for 3 days in a row before the procedure Nadolol is considered

a bet blocker & therefore I can take no aspirin or any other nsaids
