Guest guest
I had a thread about my mothers TSH rising to over 3, and was going to have her ask the doc for further testing,.....can't find it now so here is a new one! ) As per usual, I told her exactly what tests to ask for, but the doc ordered TSH, FT3/4 only. Funny thing is he didn't even tell her that he wasn't going to order the other 3. Whatever,......this is what I finally picked up from her. TSH - 2.35 (range 0.40-4.50 mIU/L) T4 Free - 1.2 (range 0.8-1.8 ng/dL) T3 Free - 2.7 (range 2.3-4.2 pg/mL) For some reason her FT3 is in different units than mine was even though we both use Quest. Mine was in pg/dL. I suspected the private lab that gave her the result over 3 on TSH was wrong, and this is more in line with what she has been running the last couple of years. Looks too high to me still from what little I know? I assume her FT4 is OK as it is exactly what mine was and Barb said that was fine. Even with the different scale on FT3, it appears to me that she is low in terms of being optimal just as I was. She is having some classic symptoms of hypo, as in unexplained weight gain, and extreme fatigue. She has never been overweight by more than about 10 pounds, and is actually exercising more now than she has for several years. She says that even with that and watching what she eats her weight is creeping up little by little. As always, I would appreciate any input that can be given on these limited results.
