Guest guest
Lila,, Yes I am the same . The tyroid removal was done when I was 25, five years ago now. It wasn`t too bad. Scary at the thought of where it is and the complications that can arise. I lost the parathyroid as a complication. The sergery was a result of a severe hyperthyriodisim and graves disease. I lost my voice for almost three months( I could whisper). The scar is barely noticeable. Why are you having sergery? Cancer of the thyroid! I now am under the impression that alot of the cause of my cancer is due to the treatment of my thriod and the malfunction of the gland. The doctors did not inform me of the long term effects of hyperthyroidism or radio active treatment or sergery. I feel that if I knew, I could have adjusted my diet and life style alot sooner to try to prevent this cancer. I get worried at times knowing that it is not there and it is a major gland in the body. But I didn`t have much choice, I was high risk of a heartattack and on alot of meds. I pray that you do not need the sergery. If you have to go through with it, I pray for no complications. If I may give some personal advice?, If you have to have the sergery, make sure you suppliment your estrogen and calcium. If you are not already, start now.. One more, have you had a bone density test? Ask your doctor for one if he hasn`t already. They didn`t check mine and I found out at 28 that I have osteoperosis. This is a direct result of my tyriod condition. Thankyoufor adding me to your prayer list, you will be in mine aswell. Take good care of yourself and don`t fret as the lord will guide you. Guest guest
...thank you for sharing your blessings with your finances...I will put you on our prayer list also. Are you the same who had thyroid and parathyroids removed? I am facing that now...have gone on the juice, flaxseed oil, etc. and am praying the Lord will heal the tumor before surgery. God Bless you. Lila zszs -------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for all the help. I will listen to the tape tommorrow. I`m ready, just wrapping my head around everything. I wanted to share a wonderful story with you all. I have been blessed with quite a remarkable comunity. Shortly after I recieved my dx, I was turned down for social assistance and had no drug benifits or money to live on. I had to leave my job due to potential health threats. I work with the handicapped in a christian orgainization. The clients are 100% dependable and have various heath conditions( some comunicable). So my comunity got the news and had a fund raiser for me. They had 12 people volenteer to shave their hair off to raise $ for me and my children. They raised 8000 $ for me. This is what has been helping me to pay for the expence of treatments. Just the other day, I had a local minister phone me. He heared of my situation from members of the congragation that are praying for me. He informed me that a man of his conragation just came into some $ and wanted to give me a gift. Today the minister came to my haome with a cheque of 1000$. I truly believe that I have been blessed. I have been approved for disability now and this will come into afect in Dec. Thanks to my comunity and the blessings from friends and strangers, I have been able to get the help needed. I just thought I would share some of my light, as things are not always so grim. Guest guest
When I had my first surgery I did have pain when I ate. That surgery was done lapro. The pain kept getting worse and eating and drinking was getting harder to do the longer it went on. Sense the second surgery I have not had any pain when I eat or drink. The second surgery was done open and the surgeon extended the motomy and took down the wrap. I am so glad I had the second surgery. I am pretty good with pain but it is so nice not to have it when I eat and drink now. Stress has a big part in how well I eat and drink. You are under a lot of stress from many different direction and that dose have an effect on you. Take things one at a time and try and find some time for you to relax. I am so sorry to hear about your dane. That is a hard thing to go though. I deepest sympathy goes to you and your family. in Suffolk
Guest guest
Hi : Yes, I SOMETIMES have pain when trying to swallow. It is definately NOT all of the time. When I think about it, it seems it is when I take too big of a bite, maybe not chew as well as I should. It just feels stuck and usually the water helps it move on. Quite often it is bready items. It is definately not a spasm, just stuck with pain. Perhaps, with all that is going on in your life, you are trying to hurry a little when you eat? That seems to be my problem. I hope it is as simple as that. I will be 9 months post op on Dec 16! I have never regretted the decision to do the surgery for one minute. I am eating almost everything ... in moderation, still the small bites, and chewing well with liquid at hand (mostly water). I still get the spasms and they are terrible. They start like a bang in the middle of my chest very much like a charleyhorse in your leg, go thru and up both shoulder blades and up both sides of my jaw. They can go from 45 minutes to 2 hours. The longest I have gone without one is 10 days ... twice. Right after surgery I would sometimes get 3 in one day. That is my biggest complaint. I just know they will eventually end so I get up and walk around, drink a cold drink, eat a popsicle, make a hot tea. So far none of that has helped, but it keeps me busy while it is deciding when to leave on its own. , how is your daughter doing? I hope well. If you remember, I have the prayer vase. If you will tell me her first name, I will put her name in the vase for extra prayers. You are a great addition to our board. Guest guest
I have had the soreness you describe -- you are still very early in your healing -- at seven weeks, I was still being very cautious with sharper foods and foods that put lots of strain on the esophagus. Take your time. Peggy > > Thankyou all for your kind thoughts. Guest guest
-Me too. We went out to tea for a freinds birthday and it was good to order food and be able to eat it. I think I ate a little too much though. Usually it is so stressful trying to decide on food more for what might go down rather than what I want. Sometimes I used to wish I never went. It definitely is a vast improvement. -- In achalasia , Crystal Rodbourn <chrissyl67@y...> wrote: > > , I think we had our surgery about the same time, I too am having some " weird " sensations when food is passing...don't know if normal, I'm just thrilled to eat! Guest guest
Thankyou . I hear what you are saying. I am trying to delegate at work as much as I can. I am not working full time but my manager has moved so I am down staff this week. I am hoping next week will be better. I have terrible chest pains today, just won't back off. I have come home to read these emails and lie down. Thanks, I only hopoe the eating discomfort is better when things settle down. Everything will be quieter after christmas. > > When I had my first surgery I did have pain when I ate. That surgery was > done lapro. Guest guest
-Thankyou Kathie, My daughter's name is Tamara. She is doing pretty well. She is still getting pains and we are running tests. Everything keeps coming up normal to date. We are looking down the path of her hormones being upset by the surgery etc. My chest pains are just the same as you described them. Today and last night they are not letting off. I have had a good run in recent weeks, but it seems like they are making up for it now. I also have the same trouble if I eat faster or big bites. I know that I need to keep how fast I eat under control. Sometimes it can get exciting eating great food and enjoying it. It had been so long since I was able to do it. Congratualtions on your 9 month anniversary this week. I think we all thank our lucky stars when we think back on how things were BM (before myotomy). Thnakyou again. It's comforting to hear from you all when sometimes things seem harder that average. Guest guest
I still am Peggy. I am really looking forward to the day when I can try nachos. It's bad when you crave them, coz the more you think about it the more you want it. I need to erase that thought. We usually eat outside and cook on the BBQ every day, but We are missing it a bit. I have been cooking casseroles every day instead. I will need to have a back up so the rest of the family can have their BBQ's. > > > > Thankyou all for your kind thoughts. Guest guest
Good Morning , Tamara is in the vase ... Might as well tell me your Moms first name too ... it can't hurt! I am really sorry to hear you are having the dreaded spasms so often, but I do relate. Unfortunately, I currently have bronchitis and it is giving my entire chest area a run for it. I have had to sleep almost sitting up and the violent coughing goes on all night (my poor hubby). I have chronic bronchitis, so I am used to this, however this is the first one since my myotomy. My chest and back are so sore from the coughing, I am praying I do not get a spasm this week too! About 3 years ago, my bronchitis got so bad, I actually broke 3 ribs ... 1 at a time. I had to get 3 separate X-rays due to pneumonia over 3 days, and each time another rib was broken! That was quite a time. The radiologist actually brought several doctors in during the xray to show them on the 3rd day. I sorta felt a bit like a freak ... a freak in a ton of pain! Oh well, now that is just a memory. Sure hope your spasms settle down. By the way ... When I eat now, I actually put my fork down once I put something in my mouth and do not allow myself to pick it up until I have safely swallowed. It seems to help, but the waiters so often think it indicates that I am finished and try to take my plate. They do not know how dangerous I get when you try to remove my food!!! Kathie in Pittsburgh expecting another major snow storm soon. > > > > Hi : > > Yes, I SOMETIMES have pain when trying to swallow. It is > definately NOT all of the time. I just know they will eventually end so I get up and walk around, drink a cold drink, eat a popsicle, make a hot tea. So far none of that has helped, but it keeps me busy while it is deciding when to leave on its own. > > Kathie in Cold and Snowy Pittsburgh
Guest guest
-Good morning Kathie, Thankyou for your kind wishes. My mum is Loraine. She is doing well, we just don't know what caused the pain. Tonight we go out to tea to an Italian restaurant for her birthday and my brothers. I hope the spasms settle so I can go. I had a break through the night. I took painkillers at tea(sorry dinner to you) and a few sips of wine my husband gave me and they settled. Might try it again to see if it was a coincidence. That bronchitis sounds terrible. I hope it doesn't get that bad ever again. I could only imagine how bad it would be along with the spasms. So I will be hoping it goes pretty quick for your sake. The added worry these days is that antibiotics are getting less effective as well, just when you really need them. I am now extra careful not to catch any lurgies these days. I think we have had a bad enough run, to go adding other problems. It is really hard to avoid though. We live in a tourist town so we get every influenza from around the world each year. Think it might be time to start the flu needle. It won't help the problems we already have but help avoid some of the added flu's we get here. Take is easy and get better real soon. -- In achalasia , " zekenoahme " <kgasior2@y...> wrote: > > Good Morning , > Tamara is in the vase ...
