Guest guest
Wow, my first Multiples-DS Digest and so much of what was expressed is what I struggle with. Do I give Eli enough time? Is that time good enough? Are my other children getting slighted? I am very good at beating myself up over not doing enough, but I try to step back and tell myself that my kids are happy, healthy, loving people, and Eli is doing great. Could I read to him/work out with him more? Sure. But I will make myself crazy if I think like that every night. Let's all just do the best we can. Love from Debbi, mom to Logan 5 1/2, Eli (DS) and Milo, 3 1/2.

Guest guest
Darlene, your post about really chewing your food reminded me of something. Anyone remember Graham Kerr, the Galloping Gourmet? Remember how at the end of each show he'd sit down at the table, take a bite of food, close his eyes, and he'd really savor that mouthful? I think that's what you mean, not just to sit there like a robot chewing and chewing. Getting the most out of each bite. Really tasting it and feeling it in the mouth. Luxuriating in the taste and texture of the food. Dawn G.--Massachusetts From a house on a hill a sacred light shines. I walk through these rooms but none of them are mine. Guest guest
absolutely 100 per cent you should give it a go... francesca gets the care component at middle rate and the mobility component at lower rate. the two together arent insignificant....and because she qualifys for part of it at either the middle or lower rate there is an automatic entitlement to a carers allowence. having said this the carers allowence is to some degree based on income, but if " mum " is at home with the kids...then she can qualify. what you have to prove is that your child requires more help than the average child of that age. you can prove this by things like water precautions, hairwashing, bathing etc, francesca is 9 and i cant allow her to wash her own hair...because of the risk of water in the ears. because francesca has some hearing loss...50 and 60 db each side (i think) which equates to the upper end of mild/moderate and the upper end of moderate/severe. i can say that she needs help with other things such as, facing the speaker, it's an added risk when out shopping or new places etc.....it's all rather " extending " the facts. you can talk about the ear drops, extra washing caused by discharge from the ear etc.... then get either a teacher/gp/nurse/ent to sign the form, try and choose someone who is in some way aware of some of the difficulties faced by your child. they will ask if you feel it should be back dated...always say yes! and ask for it to be backdated as far as it can be, because you were unaware you could claim, they should go back about 6 weeks, maybe more. make sure you mention any special aids used in the home, such as " loops " for TV, these can be " borrowed and fitted " from local councils. explain the need for minicom facility/typetalk, special fire/smoke alarms with flashing lights etc. mention how you need to wake the person as they are unable to use a " normal " alarm clock...and anything else you can think of. a very important one to mention is the psychological effect...how maybe you need to do extra home work....i use british sign language at home to reinforce school work. also how they feel about wearing hearing aids...they may require more help if they dont want to use them, or if they are uncomfortable. francesca had a problem with a girl at school and refuses to wear hearing aids now. there's no guarantee....as all the agencies seem to have their own mysterious criteria to qualify...but definately worth a go. the address is: DLA, Warbreck House, Warbreck Hill, Blackpool, FY2 0YJ phone: 0845 - 712 - 3456 very best of luck julie
