Guest guest
Colby, Well I live in Joppa, land (Harford County). I have an HMO/ Freestate Insurance and need referrals to see specialists. That is the only reason why I asked my doctor to refer me. I am sure I am not the only one, but I am totally confused about all this Lyme stuff. I mean people telling us were cured and people thinking that we're faking because we have no " seen " illnesses. Thats a bunch of BS I have ever heard of. I am tired of people always saying to me, " you don't feel good again? " Well, duh, no, I don't. Whats wrong with you? Uh, well let's see, I have lyme disease, no one seems to give a hoot (doctors esp) and uh, everyone seems to think that if I get exercise, I will feel so much better. Well if my legs and ankles didn't hurt so much and I wasn't so tired all the time, maybe I would be exercising. I think the whole world should be educated on lyme. That should be a class or training that is MANDATORY wherever you work or go to school, etc. Thanks for everything everyone, if it wasn't for all of you, I would be by myself. Guest guest
I have a blood test question I thought I would throw out there and see if anybody has the answer to. What is LD? All my enzymes were within normal limits except this. Also, I am reducing pred right now and my latest labs the enzymes went up, but stayed within normal limits. Do they periodically go up and come back down within normal limits. They were: AST 16 then to 20 ALT 26 then to 28 GGT 28 to 29 bilirubin .5 to .7 It is not much higher. Am I just being paranoid? Guest guest
Dear Kathy, I also hope, along with you, that this isn't a break in your remission. I think I was reading in an article by Czaza of the Mayo Clinic that the actual liver condition is a bit behind the labs. Maybe that's why you had a " bad " day. I'll recheck that to see - I may have misunderstood. Anyways, I hope you're feeling better. Guest guest
Dear Audra: My enzyme levels fluctuate within 'normal limits' all the time. My doctor said that it is nothing to worry about. I just got LFT's today but will probably not get results back for a few days. I've been feeling real tired the last couple of days. Today I've been terribly fatigued. I was supposed to have an eye exam this morning. As I was driving there, I felt like I was having trouble keeping my eyes open. My head hurt a little, too. When I got there, I decided that it wasn't the best time to have my eyes dilated and to sit there when I was feeling so crummy. I went into the office and canceled my appointment and rescheduled. They were really very nice about it. I went ahead and walked over to my GI's office (in the same building) and got my slip for LFT's. By the time I got my blood test and drove home, I felt terrible. I had to lay down for about an hour and a half. Now, it's almost 5 PM and I still feel like I could just sleep for the rest of the day. It kind of worries me because I've been doing pretty good for a while. I hope it's not a break in my remission. I guess I'll know if it's related to my liver in a few days or if I'm just coming down with the flu or something. Well, sorry to vent. I hope everyone has a good week! Guest guest
Hi Audra, I've been having regular lab work for 5 years. The numbers fluctuate, even within the same day. I wouldn't expect to see the exact same numbers each time I go for labs, it just doesn't work that way. As long as your numbers are within the 'normal ranges' be happy. A few points here and there are to be expected, especially since you're reducing the prednisone. When I stopped taking pred. my AST and ALT went up into the 70's over a period of 6 months. Then, started coming back down into the normal range over the next 3 months, and they've stayed there ever since. It just happened, there was no change in meds. Even now they fluctuate within the normal range. I had to stop looking at specific numbers because I have a very vivid imagination and could drive myself crazy. I just take a quick peek, if the numbers are within range - that's good enough for me. I've included some info on the LD - key word in the first sentence is MAY, one number by itself is usually not indicative of anything, and could be caused by one of the meds. I hope you're feeling well. Regards, Barbara Ann AIH Transplant Recipient Lactate dehydrogenase (LD or " LDH " ) Increase of LD activity in serum may occur in any injury that causes loss of cell cytoplasm. More specific information can be obtained by LD isoenzyme studies. Also, elevation of serum LD is observed due to in vivo effects of anesthetic agents, clofibrate, dicumarol, ethanol, fluorides, imipramine, methotrexate, mithramycin, narcotic analgesics, nitrofurantoin, propoxyphene, quinidine, and sulfonamides. Decrease of serum LD is probably not clinically significant. There are two main analytical methods for measuring LD: pyruvate->lactate and lactate->pyruvate.Assay conditions (particularly temperature) vary among labs. The reference range for the assaying laboratory must be carefully studied when interpreting any individual result. http://www.neosoft.com/~uthman/lab_test.html --- ADilli5783@... wrote:

From: ADilli5783@... Guest guest
, Good drs. will go by blood tests AND your symptoms for diagnosing and prescribing drugs. You can take your temperature first thing in the morning before getting out of bed for a week, and if it is 97.8 (I believe) or lower, it might indicate a low thyroid. Go to www.about.com and type in hypothyroid and there is a wealth of info. I am still in the learning stage of this also, but others on the list can help you more. PS Stress, trauma, diet, toxins, etc. can throw the thyroid off also. Take care. Love and Peace, Reneé and Jerry
Guest guest
: Most " doctors " MD's are reliant on archaic blood tests and rarely pay much attention to symptoms. They also are not up on the effects or causes of auto-immune disorders...which are ultimately the cause of thyroid disorders. You might also suggest www.thyrodine.com as another source of data. Guest guest
: Blood tests for thyroid disorders are notoriously inaccurate!! Temperature taken before arising in the morning is a much better test. Optimum temperature is 98.6. If temperature is below 98.0 it suggets a disorder, the lower, the more severe. Please look up auto-immune disorders, as that is the cause of most thyroid dysfunctions. There is some data on www.thyrodine.com although it is being up-dated soon. Earl Blood test Hi, I am new to this discussion, and I was wondering if there was any other method to test for hypothyroidism instead of the blood test? Also, is the blood test real accurate? It seems like I've heard it can be wrong..

Guest guest
Thank you. When I got very sick 5 years ago and couldn't figure out what it was it was such a mess. I almost lost my job and my parents ditched me, leaving me to move in with a b/f whom I really didn't want to move in with and most of my family still acts like they don't know " what is wrong with me " even after me telling them, so I gave up on them just recently. Some of them think that there is this " magic pill " for me to take and it will be all better and others think that i'm " just depressed " . So, I have chosen, through much heartache and emotional pain to just let " them go " for a while in order to focus on my own health. I am so glad to have found a group that can truly understand what it is like to live with this illness. Thank you. I hope you're doing well. In a message dated 11/22/2005 8:24:39 A.M. Guest guest
Bb hides. it (excuse my lyme brain and not technical discription) slimes itself with a protien so your immune system doesn't recognise it as an invader. it goes into cyst form and your immune system doesn't recognise it as an infection. the reason it can ravage your body is because your body doesn't know it is there. one of the first things it does is set out to destroy you natural killer cells. they are a form of Tcells. these are the cells that recognise it but the lyme attacks first. you should ask for a CD-57 through labcorp by your doc. if your CD-57 is low that is considered an indication of long term lyme. so, no, you wouldn't neccesarily have an elevated wbc count with lyme. i've had it for 15 years and never have. also if your dr finally runs the western blot and runs it through your local insurance accepting lab, like labcorp or quest, that that test is an abreviated test, and is oonly 50% accurate. cheaper to flip a coin. the only western blot that i know of that is reliable is by igenex in california. a knowledgeable LLMD (lyme literate MD) will know this. you should also get tested for co-infections, you never get just lyme from the tick. and some of them, especially babesia is an intercellular parasitic blood infection and it won't respond to antibiotics. some coinfections need separate abx to treat. if you don't treat the coinfections you will never get better. best of luck with your health. you can and will get better. deb [ ] Blood test > >Hi. > >So I went to a doctor two weeks ago to complain about my symptoms and >ask for a blood test and he gave me a bunch of different tests to do >instead of the western blot, even after I asked him for one. Guest guest
Somehow some way, You have to DEMAND a western blot. If you can get it through Igenex, even better. Some labs dont read the WB correctly, and some don't know what they are even looking at. If you can get the WB through Igenex, then post your results, I can translate it for you, if your Dr. can't or won't. Mainstream Drs are useless (my humble opinoin of course. > > Hi. > > So I went to a doctor two weeks ago to complain about my symptoms and > ask for a blood test and he gave me a bunch of different tests to do > instead of the western blot, even after I asked him for one. Guest guest
Hi a, Yes, this happened to me. All my labs were " normal " or just a little low for the leukocytes...but when taking the Igenex test I was positive for an old infection as well as a new one. The Igenex test is sensitive for many other strands, rather than the typical ones which most docs use. Demand Igenex, or go see a doc that will use that test. I have had tick bites all my life and even had the bulls eye rash, but could not get treatment from my PCP. I found a LLMD and went to him and have made progress ever since. Guest guest
Had blood test done last week and doc just called to tell me that iron was somewhat low, dhea and b12 were normal. Anyway I'm gonna get copy in mail and I will take it from there and post results. I asked him to test my blood as it's been 2 weeks that I've been on androgel and he refused and what's me to wait 2 more weeks at least. Should I go to primary and have him test my blood or wait two more weeks till I see dr barry gordon and have him test my blood?

Guest guest
le,In my former life... pre Hep C and a few years back I was a Medical Lab Tech. Your numbers are fine. The normal WBC count for a healthy adult is between 5 and 12. Yes, you are on the low side but this medication wipes out your immune system usually. It wouldn't be surprising for that number to go even lower. Your WBC is what we look at when you are sick to see if you have a bacterial infection or a virus. If you have a bacterial infection that number shoots up to over 20,000 if you have a virus, it's usually below 4. Going thru tx they are more concerned about your Hemoglobin level. The average person runs between 13 and 15 on that. When that number drops below 9 is when they start talking about transfusions. That's when you start getting lightheaded and you can feel your heartbeat with every step. Sounds like for now you are all good. Let the Doc's worry about the lab work.. that's what you are paying them to do. They won't tell you something is fine if it isn't. Just hang in there and take care of yourself. Get plenty of rest and drink lots of fluids. Feel better and I hope this helps... if you need more of an explanation or if that didn't make sense.. just let me know.. I'll break it down even further for you.Teri From: dbrown715907 <dbrown715907@...> Sent: Tue, April 13, 2010 3:16:04 PMSubject: [ ] blood test I got my blood results today and was wondering when I started treatment on 3/25 my wbc was 12.55 and now test done 4/7 it is down to 4.3 dr says that it is decent? idk. Guest guest
Thank you Teri One of the nice thing about this group is that those with the know, help those who dont know. Including me. Sometimes I can answer stuff, other times I just have to provide links. It really helps when someone can break it down into laymans terms for the rest of us. love don in ks From: Teri Gottlieb <theresagottlieb@...>Subject: Re: [ ] blood test Date: Tuesday, April 13, 2010, 4:32 PM Basic blood work I can still handle! Now start giving me crazy stuff and I'll have to crack the books out... all of which I have. I even have a ton of books from my new doc who gave me his med school stuff! I have resources! And I keep cutting my hair so getting any information thru there is probably impossible... Doesn't work as antennae like yours does... not sure I'd want it to either.Still cracking up in Chicago,Teri From: Christ <ludichrist2000@...> Sent: Tue, April 13, 2010 4:08:59 PMSubject: Re: [ ] blood test
