Guest guest
Dave, You could try educating your doc. Get the book " safe uses of cortisol " by Jeffries and bookmark the pertinent information. In there, Jeffries' explains that up to 40 mg's of HC is safe for therapy. Then, bring it into your next appointment and go over that information with your doc. I will forewarn you though, this usually doesn't go over well with doctors. So, you have to be extremely tactful when doing this. If this doesn't work, then you should find another doc if you can. If your doc isn't providing the service you expect of her, then fire her and find someone who will. There is no reason, except if you can't find another doc to treat you, that you should be giving this person your hard earned money if she is not giving you the service you expect. Remember, you pay her to perform a service for you and not the other way around. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Thanks Mike. I appreciate the reply. She actually recommended the book TO ME! But apparently she doesn't walk the walk. When it comes time to write the script, she'll shy away from anything " non conventional " even though she made me sign my life away before visiting her. Anyway. Finding a doc who understands is easier said than done. I feel like I'm finally coming out of a long crisis, so I'm leaning towards self-treating. Maybe while I do, I'll make finding a doc a long-term quest. > > > > > > > With the help of Phil and others on this board, I'm finally feeling better, > > but I'm having a problem with my docs. > > > > Here's where I'm at: > > > > Low T - so I'm on Testim. > > Hypothyroid - so I'm on Levothyroxine. > > > > After starting those 2 I didn't feel great, so I started self treating with > > Isocort. > > BINGO! > > Seemed like low cortisone was a major component of my situation. > > I begged my doc to give me cortef, but she only came through with 7.5 mg/ > > day. Guest guest
Dave I had the same problem with my Dr. but after I tested low. When my Dr. seen how much better I was doing on Isocort and it was on back order he gave me Cortef. I just don't know what to tell you you need to make your mind up it's your body. If you need links to help you show your Dr. it's safe to take up to 40 mgs a day of HC I have some here are two of them. http://featherstone.bravehost.com/thyroid/peatfieldadrenal.html I was going to give you a link at Stop the Thyroid Madness on the best parts of the book " Safe Uses of Cortisol " but it does not want to come up. Some people can't take a low 7.5 mgs dose of HC the hole idea of taking HC is to support your body with Cortisol that your Adrenals can't do anymore. Some people that are not bad off can take HC on at the times of the day they feel bad some are low in the morning and good the rest of the day. Others take a low dose and there adrenals get rested from this and in less then 4 hrs they start to feel like crap because there Adrenals are not coming back on line and making more Cortisol. I idea of taking HC is to slow down your adrenals so they can rest and heal. So you need at least 20 mgs / day 5 mgs every 4 hrs to support your body. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/?s=Safe+Uses+of+Cortisol And you don't need to be off HC or Isocort 4 weeks to do labs you only need to be off it 2 weeks but it will take you a long time to come off what your on. Read about it in this FAQ's read 39 and 41. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/adrenal-info/faq/ Co-Moderator Phil > From: Dave <dcbaden@...> > Subject: Doctor won't dose cortisone - what would you do? > > Date: Wednesday, September 1, 2010, 5:36 PM > With the help of Phil and others on > this board, I'm finally feeling better, but I'm having a > problem with my docs. > > Here's where I'm at: > > Low T - so I'm on Testim. > Hypothyroid - so I'm on Levothyroxine. > > After starting those 2 I didn't feel great, so I started > self treating with Isocort. > BINGO! > Seemed like low cortisone was a major component of my > situation. > I begged my doc to give me cortef, but she only came > through with 7.5 mg/ day. Guest guest
Dave don't self treat it's a long road to big problems. Some times people like my self have an Adrenal Crisis and you need your Dr. on board to help you with this. I ended up in the ER 2 times over doing working in the heat to long. I needed a big shot of Medrol to keep me from dieing. I think you can take both your 7.5 mgs and Isocort at the same time. Eight pills of Isocort is 20mgs of cortisol so figure out when you need the Cortef and try Isocort after this. Some if not most feel bad in the morning so if your one take your Cotref in the morning and Isocort the rest of the day. Say 7.5 mgs when you wake up then 2 pills of Isocort every 4 hrs to total 20.5 mgs / day. Guest guest
Thanks all. I think I'll stay the course with mixing Isocort and HC and just see what my labs look like in 2 weeks. Maybe I'll get a clue from that. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > With the help of Phil and others on this board, > > I'm finally feeling better, > > > > but I'm having a problem with my docs. > > > > > > > > Here's where I'm at: > > > > > > > > Low T - so I'm on Testim. > > > > Hypothyroid - so I'm on Levothyroxine. > > > > > > > > After starting those 2 I didn't feel great, so I > > started self treating with > > > > Isocort. > > > > BINGO! > > > > Seemed like low cortisone was a major component > > of my situation. > > > > I begged my doc to give me cortef, but she only > > came through with 7.5 mg/ > > > > day. Guest guest
The thing that worked for me on HC and Isocort was taking my temps read this link you can print out a chart so you can chart your temps avg. and keep track on how your doing. http://www.drrind.com/therapies/metabolic-temperature-graph Co-Moderator Phil > From: Dave <dcbaden@...> > Subject: Re: Doctor won't dose cortisone - what would you do? > > Date: Thursday, September 2, 2010, 12:47 PM > Thanks all. > I think I'll stay the course with mixing Isocort and HC and > just see what my labs look like in 2 weeks. > Maybe I'll get a clue from that. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > With the help of Phil and others on > this board, > > > I'm finally feeling better, > > > > > but I'm having a problem with my docs. > > > > > > > > > > Here's where I'm at: > > > > > > > > > > Low T - so I'm on Testim. > > > > > Hypothyroid - so I'm on Levothyroxine. > > > > > > > > > > After starting those 2 I didn't feel > great, so I > > > started self treating with > > > > > Isocort. > > > > > BINGO! > > > > > Seemed like low cortisone was a major > component > > > of my situation. > > > > > I begged my doc to give me cortef, but > she only > > > came through with 7.5 mg/ > > > > > day.
