> my doctor started me on the candida diet with dyflucan 2 weeks ago. I was

doing fine until yesterday the WOW my face and chest are so broken out you can

not see the skin. Any suggestions? Do I add nystatin? I have been taking capri

acic(liquid) with liquid clay and psyllium also. Suggestions??

+++Hi there. Welcome to our group. Is your name ?

Diflucan is very hard on your liver, and it is a toxic drug, so it is better and

not as damaging to take natural antifungals like I recommend.

You should take the " real thing " instead of caprylic acid, since it is derived

from coconut oil (CO), but it is processed and doesn't help like unrefined CO

does. Also CO provides so many other health benefits in addition to be

antifungal.

Also liquid clay and psyllium are very damaging to the digestive system - see

these articles:

http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/mn26.php

http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/mn3.php

Also, Candida is not cured by " killing it off " like doctors believe. It just

doesn't work that way. Candida is only cured by building up the immune system,

which is done by:

1) Consuming " proper nutrients " (diet plus supplements),

2) Eliminating toxins and foods that feed candida (they also feed bacteria and

cancer),

3) Eliminating damaging foods, and

4) Eliminating toxins in general.

Ensure you read two important articles, so you understand candida and know what

you need to do and why:

1) How to Successfully Overcome Candida

2) Curing Candida, How to Get Started

die off? I am going to read your articles in a minute but I need to resolve the

problem I am now having. I think I went about this the wrong way..but now what?

I can use flax instead of psyllium...but how do I stop the die off? How long

does it usually last?

Hi ,

yes, what you're experiencing is die-off. Diflucan is a strong drug. The only

way to resolve the problem is to back off of how much you are taking.

You really would benefit from reading the articles Bee directed you to. This

program is a completely different approach to healing candida than what your

doctor has prescribed for you. It's a natural approach using healthy foods and

some nutritional supplements. You won't be able to completely avoid die-off

symptoms but you can manage their severerity.

Flax is not recommended to take either. Again, read the articles you were

directed to and you'll better understand.

Jackie thank you for your reply. I am guessing if I stop the Dyflucan the

die-off will stop? This is way too harsh for me. I read some of Bees website and

will try the Nystatin but I thought it was important to keep the intestines

moving to get rid of the yeast and I do not see where she mentions extra fiber??

Hi ,

Stopping the Diflucan should stop the die-off symptoms. It's best to stop it

anyway since it's so harsh.

No, don't start on Nystatin either. This morning in Bee's reply to you she told

you how to get rid of the candida overgrowth and suggested you read several

articles to inform yourself about this program. If you read the suggested

articles you'll understand better. In case you didn't save the message here are

Yes, she does mention antifungals and Nystatin is on the " list " but antifungals

are not used until you are completely on the diet plus supplements and you are

able to take 6 Tablespoons of coconut oil. That can take quite a bit of time to

do.

+++Hi . Jackie has been helping you a lot, but I want to mention that

fiber is very damaging to the intestines, and yes the bowels need to move, but

not to get rid of yeast since it doesn't work that way. I wrote to you before

about how you get rid of yeast, so please read and then get back to us with

questions.

+++Hi . The only reason I keep Nystatin on the list is because pregnant

and breastfeeding women can only use raw garlic as an antifungal (other than

coconut oil), which is a problem since it causes garlic breath. So their best

alternative is Nystatin.

Ditto!

Crystal and ALL,

I just want to add if you have taken any hard core math, chemistry or biology or

Anatomy and Physiology classes and the DATE of the time you got your final GRADE

is AFTER you took the PTCB, they can/will count towards CE (continued

education).

You can use UP TO 15 credits/units for CE.

Hope this helps you or someone out there!

Der ElectraKizz,

I could write it out, but I found it already on the net for you:

What is a receptor?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Receptor_(biochemistry)

http://www.answers.com/topic/receptor

What is the receptor theory?

http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/receptor+theory+of+drug+action

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Receptor_theory

I highly recommend the youtube.comsite above as it is made 'light' by a nursing

student and easy to understand:

But very simply put:

" Receptor receives another substance to cause a reacton in a cell.

Drugs either bind to the receiver to block that substance or to act like that

substance.

A blocking agent(drug) would be antagonistic, causes no cell reaction.

An agent (ddrug) that mimicks or acts like would be an agonist, causes cell

reaction. "

Hope this helps

Hi,

From wht i understand, EEG only pick up seizures or any abnormality within

certain time frame. If happen today and do EEG tomorrow, you may not get the

result.

Can it be PANDAS ?

We are a little desperate here. My son is 17 and out of the blue started

exploding. He goes into a rage. The pediatrician sent him for an MRI(nothing)

and to a neurologist. They said what I was describing sounded like Temporal Lobe

seizures but the EEG showed nothing. Yesterday he had 4 episodes between 4-10pm

last night. His face turns a gray looking color, sometimes he is pale and his

lips turn blue. Swinging helps but yesterday he was just intent on beating his

head against something. He can't tell us what is going on.

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know and don't know how to tell. This did all start after he was exposed

to a visitor who came here with strep, but he didn't even get sick. When he was

younger, he had strep various times, but always took an antibiotic to kill it

out. This has been going on since right after Christmas, comes and goes, but

each episode is worse.

PANDAS is just a cute name for toxic metals poisoning. I had the strep episodes

until I stopped eating dairy, then I never had one again.

Any chance it could be migraine activity? I would keep detailed log of

activities, foods, etc. to find the trigger.

I wouldn't trust EEG for seizures, though.

This doesn't sound to me like a clear-cut case of PANDAS. As initially defined,

PANDAS should begin before the onset of puberty and I expect a 17 year old has

passed puberty. Additionally, PANDAS includes tics or obsessive-compulsive

behavior; head-banging may fall under this heading but seems a little extreme.

Of more concern is the suggestion of autonomic involvement reflected in the

pallor and episodic blue lips. While there is probably little harm involved in

taking penicillin until age 21, I would recommend against stopping the search

for other causes. Did the EEG include any provocative maneuvers such as

flashing lights or hyperventilation?

The EEG involved strobe lights.

His anxiety has been over the top for a long long time. But the doctor doesn't

seem to be concerned about any of these things. He sent him to a neurologist @8

years because he was biting his hand and would have occasional episodes of

banging his head. Gave him Lexapro which backfired bigtime. He suggested

Abilify. When I refused a neuroleptic, he dismissed us as wasting his time. I

started giving some TMG and he leveled out but the OCD has continued to get

worse over the years. He has also developed some tics over the past few months.

Averages 2-3 hours sleep a night.

When he was exposed to strep he had a strep throat culture done. It was clear.

Have you ever heard of the color of the skin changing to a grayish color? Blue

lips classically mean a loss of oxygen but why? I have never known of him

hyperventilating. His iron is low 11 instead of 16. He has had an MRI, an EEG,

and a visit to the ER this morning. Nobody can figure it out. The doctor at the

ER suggested it may be a heavy metals issue and to request another test from the

pediatrician who says he knows nothing about autism.

Drissa, changes in skin color are frequently the result of changes in blood

circulation that reduce the flow of blood near the skin surface, either because

of a generalized decrease in circulation or a shift in circulation that sends

more blood away from the skin toward internal organs. Blue lips, as you said,

more likely reflect a decrease in the level of oxygenation of the blood. This

usually comes about because of a decrease in respiration. (Another cause,

mixture of oxygenated with unoxygenated blood, would be constant rather than

episodic and probably doesn’t apply here.) Taken at face value, it appears

that there was a change in your son’s cardiorespiratory status at the time you

noticed the color changes, and this apparently corresponds to the time of the

episodes of aberrant behavior. Two other thoughts come to mind but strictly in

the context of ‘brainstorming’: 1) the time frame of a complex partial

seizure should be on the order of a few minutes, although there can be repeated

seizures in a short period of time 2) most neurologists would agree that if an

EEG is done to identify seizures, it could not be considered truly negative

unless it includes a period of sleep, ideally with the presence of sleep

spindles on the recording. It may even be worthwhile to try an ambulatory EEG

for 12-48 hours if you are fairly sure the episodes will occur during this

timeframe.

This doesn't sound to me like a clear-cut case of PANDAS. As initially defined,

PANDAS should begin before the onset of puberty and I expect a 17 year old has

passed puberty. Additionally, PANDAS includes tics or obsessive-compulsiv e

behavior; head-banging may fall under this heading but seems a little extreme.

Of more concern is the suggestion of autonomic involvement reflected in the

pallor and episodic blue lips. While there is probably little harm involved in

taking penicillin until age 21, I would recommend against stopping the search

for other causes. Did the EEG include any provocative maneuvers such as flashing

lights or hyperventilation?

Thanks for the input. We have a followup appt. on the 12th, but the doctor has

already sent a prescription for depakene. Today we needed  a trip to the ER and

they suggested valium to calm him down since we did not have the depakene. He

has an appt with the pediatrician tomorrow afternoon. He has had 10 mg. of

valium and it did not stop the episode. As soon as he walked back in the door he

started for the bedroom and started banging his head on the tv. This is a new tv

for him. Could that be part of the problem?

Drissia, it ‘s hard to make much more out of this. Certainly if your son has

shown a consistent preference for sameness in his environment the addition of a

new TV set could cause him some distress, but not necessarily cause him to bang

his head against it. Depakene has a long history as an effective medicine for

seizures, but in recent years it has also seen quite a bit of use as a mood

stabilizer; it’s hard to know for sure what the doctor is thinking at this

point, particularly since the EEG ‘showed nothing’. It’s also hard to

know about the Valium. Ten milligrams of Valium as a single dose would stop

most seizures, but would most often be given IV and cause quite a bit of

sleepiness at the same time. I would not expect seizures to recur within six

hours or so of a 10 mg IV dose. If the Valium was given orally, and

particularly in divided doses, it would be harder to predict what its effect

would be. The antianxiety properties of Valium should become apparent within a

few days at a consistent dose, but in the first day or so you will see only the

sedative effect, and that is highly variable as well as being dependent on the

dose and the size of the patient. I think your best shot lies in ruling out

physical causes (the MRI probably excludes sinus pain but dental pain could

still be a possibility, also middle ear pressure from Eustachian tube

dysfunction), then deciding on a probable cause (seizure, anxiety, frustration,

attention-seeking) and a metric to use in order to gauge improvement. Then

begin therapy based on your assessment of the most probable cause and see how

things go over a period of a few days to a few weeks. Then either adjust the

therapy or change to an alternative diagnosis. If you have access to one, a

behavior analyst could perform a functional assessment to see if there is a

purposeful component to these episodes.
