Yep...and from what I've read, I guess it is a low dose. 375 mg's twice

daily. That's what I just started on. Which is fine by me right now since

I herx so badly anyways. When I started the Cipro I had to start out with

one daily and I herxed for almost two weeks on just one a day! I plan on

asking about adding or increasing the meds after a while.

Dave (hubby) has been banging and hammering in our kitchen (remodeling)

since 8 this morning and it's almost six now! I've taken about three

naps..LOL

Hope everyone is doing ok

what a gorgeous weekend here in Mich!

take care,

Anita

Hi Anita,

My 17 yr.old son has been taking 1000mg/flagyl and 250mg/ceftin for about 5

weeks.

Five days after he started the flagyl, he had 2 days of fatigue and slight

headache. That is 4 weeks ago right now, so we're keeping our fingers

crossed. He has not had any other problems with taking it. I do have him

taking other supplements though, including primidopholus and milk thistle,

etc.

He felt that he was at 90% before starting the flagyl and now 99-100%. Says

he is feeling great.

I'm hoping he can go off abx soon, but I'm a little nervous about it too.

Would appreciate opinions on this. I've read one or two months after symptoms

free.

Does that mean totally normal all the time?

He was infected July '98, on abx late Nov. - mid Jan. for ear infections,

started treatment for lyme on 2-1-99. He has had only minimal symptoms since

mid-March,basically at 4 week cycle time only.

Thanks in advance to everyone.

Take Care,

(MN)

Joan,

I did very well with Flagyl. Remember, everyone reacts differently. I

actually felt normal last July and August while on it when suddenly I

relapsed. That is when we found out I was infected with babesia and

ehrlichia. It was showing as a new infection too.. so I was most likely

reinfected with a bite that I never saw. (I spend a lot of time outdoors all

summer coaching cheerleading.. in an endemic area). Originally from Queens,

NY! I see you are Long Island. I live in NJ now. Anyway, dont be afraid to

try the flagyl. Once I can eradicate these co-infections I am going back on.

It worked great for me with very little side effects.

I have been reading a lot of posts about the depression, anxiety and

agitation that Flagyl can cause. Does this happen to the majority of

people taking it?

My anxiety and depression has finally been mostly under control thanks

to Prozac. My LLMD has mentioned giving me Flagyl when I resume abx next

week, but I am afraid that it will affect the emotional progress that I

have made. Any ideas???

Thanks,

Joan LI NY

Hi Lorraine,

I know that everyone reacts differently, but I kept reading that people

had bad reactions to flagyl and wanted to hear from people who didn't.

I'm glad that it helped you and I'm hoping to hear from more Lymies that

did ok with it.

Reinfections are a big problem around here, too. Our daughter was

reinfected a number of times, as I'm sure I have been. It's like

fighting a losing battle over and over...anyway, I hope you again feel

as well as you did last summer!

Thanks,

Joan LI NY

My daughter used Flagyl, low dose (200 mg.) and seemed to improve on it. She

was only able to use it for 3 weeks at a time and then so off for a week or

two. She was also trying Artemesia for Babesia at the same time so I can't

be sure which seemed to do the trick. At this time she is symptom free and

going strong. She had been sick since she was 6 and is now 18. We had tried

everything for her. Years of antibiotics, IV and oral. What seemed to truly

make the big turn around for her was the Hyperbaric chamber. Do I think it

was a cure? No, but it put her in a position that her body and meds. kicked

in. We do pray every day that her health continues. Meg No. CA

Joan,

I was on Flagyl 1000 mg. for nearly 4 months with a couple of week long

breaks. As you probably read, a few days into the Flagyl I made amazing

progress which has been sustained. After about 3 months on Flagyl and Zith

I became severely anxious and depressed. The onset was fairly sudden and

made me suspect the drugs but it could have been something else, like a

herx. I tried to push through the symptoms and remain on Flagyl. I got worse

and SSRI antidepressants weren't helping. The reason I suspected it was a

Flagyl reaction was that from the first day I took Flagyl I felt wired and

was having trouble sleeping. At that point it was not really problematic. It

seemed that the severe anxiety was just an escalation of the feeling of

being wired. I made it through the worst period taking Ativan (like Xanax

and Valium) every 6 hours (I didn't get addicted). It would just knock me

out.

Finally I quit the Flagyl and a few days later I still had the symptoms.

After getting the right antidepressant combo and dose I'm feeling fine -

very emotionally stable. Both my doctor and I suspect that there might have

been some kind of toxic build up with the Flagyl and that perhaps I should

have quit when I started feeling so bad.

Would I go through it again? Yes, the progress I made was so great it was

worth going through those few horrible weeks. I felt so good yesterday I

actually went out running. (I've been building up slowly to get back in

shape.

I think that if I had to do it again I would have quit sooner and probably

avoided the severe reaction. I was too afraid to quit because in every other

way I felt soooo much bettter. I've been off now for about 3 weeks. I'm on

amoxy and Biaxin now. So far, so good, except I've just developed a very

painful lump or swelling on the occipital part of my skull. Sheesh, it never

ends.

It's easy drug for most of us - hard on the stomach and nervous system,

seems to aggravate or cause neuropathy and it's too easy to confuse bad drug

reactions, the disease process and herxing.

Hope that's helpful. Oh, and initially my doc prescribed 1500 mg/day. That

was too much for me. Perhaps I could have gotten away with less than the

1000 I was taking.

Dear beth & All,

Have read that one should never start flagyl at more than 125 mg per day - to

help prevent these awful herxes. Then build up doseage slowly.

Neither Soma nor Klonapin are classified as narcotics and could be taken with

LDN if needed. A possible exception to this would be if the Soma (Carisoprodol)

was not the standard 350mg pure Soma, but a combination product that contains

200 mg carisoprodol in combination with 325 mg aspirin and 16 mg codeine

phosphate. Codeine is a weak narcotic at this dose and this form should be

avoided if on LDN. If in doubt ask your pharmacist. Soma can be a drug of abuse

and death is not uncommon with overdose and in combination with alcohol abuse.

Klonopin(Clonazepam) is a controlled substance IV in USA but it is not an

opioid.

see:

http://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/schedules/alpha/alphabetical.htm

anything listed as Y in narcotic column must be avoided.
