Hi Lulap,

Just a welcome. I am also new to Lexapro. I've been taking it for

eight days now and have noticed a decrease in appetite, early morning

waking and an increase in anxiety (not good - hope this will fade).

I can tell you that in a week I have lost two pounds. I've had no

interest in food. I don't know if this is applicable to everyone

though. I also lost weight in a short stint on Paxil (one month) so

maybe that's the way SSRI's affect me.

I hope everything is going well for you.

Best Wishes,

Patience.

Bee, I understand. I guess I didn't eat enough (good) fat the last

time I went on a lowcarb diet. So today I just started, after a few

days of good preparation... early this morning I waved goodbye to

those candida buggers.... ;)

> I started with a huge glass of water with half a lime squeezed

into it and a little bit of himalaya salt. I rather liked it. After

two hours I ate two (soft) boiled eggs, with some cucumber and

himalaya salt again and some mayonaise with olive oil. While writing

this message I am drinking my pau d'arco tea with a teaspoon of

coconutoil in it. I am grateful I am so fond of the taste of coconut,

and this hot teadrink is so nice :) Tonight I'm going to eat some

chicken with vegetables.

lunch, as dinner. So I would be very grateful if some people on this

list will share just what they eat and drink on a normal day. To get

inspired :)

Just picked up my ldn.The capsules are all 4mg.Should I take this

amount as prescribed by my neurologist or take the capsule apart and try and

remove half of it. I am a little scared of what route would be better for my

ms.I would greatly appreciate some input..bridget

It seems to be the go now to start slow and ramp up. Given you have 4mg

capsules (didn't they read the script accurately?) I'd suggest starting

at 2mg, then moving to 3mg when comfortable and finally 4mg. Trying to

split capsules physically by volume is potentially very inaccurate as

the naltrexone is only a couple of grains, the rest of the capsule is

filler. You could easily end up with say 3.5mg one night and only 0.5mg

the next.

The only accurate way is to empty the contents of the capsule into a

known quantity of water, shake/stir/mix thoroughly and have half one

night and half the next. When ready to go to 3mg empty 3 capsules

(12mg) into a known quantity of water and take 1/4 of it (3mg) each night.

I agree with but the normal protocol as of right now is 1.5mg for a month, 3 mg for a month then 4..5mg there after if you can handle it with no problems and if so then go back to 3mg. Unless they've changed the protocol thats what its been in the last year or so. When I started LDN September 3rd, 2005 there really wasn't a protocol so I started on 3mg and waited 5 months then went up to 4.5mg so my body would get use to the LDN. Most people that go up in dose too fast usually end up having the problems.

LDN is not a quick fix or cure so it will take time to work as it took time for the damage to happen. It took me being on LDN for 1 and a half years to see a difference in my MRI and all lesions were gone and I had 10 a few months before I had the MRI done.

I would go back to the doc and pharmacist and ask for the script be re-written for either 1.5 mg caps OR transdermal cream whose dose can be easily measured and changed.

4.0 mg is an unusual dose and I would question the doc about that dose. It is said most people use a maintenance dose of 3.0 to 4.5 mg. Many who are sensitive or weak start with 1.5 mg for several weeks and then increase the amount of their dose.

That would appear to be the problem I have

had with intense pain. I was on 3 for just 8 days and then up to 4.5. I have

now taken 2 nights off and will restart on 1.5 tonight.

Last night I was in complete spasm I have

RA and don’t want to experience that again if I can help it.

Will split my 4.5 in liquid as suggested

whilst I await arrival of my smaller doses.

Any comments anyone?

Dear nuala, crystal and others,

I am a chronic lymie who has just begun ldn 8 days ago. I was aware of ldn for a

while but am committed to one protocol at a time in order to be of accurate help

to myself and others in my community. So it was on my list of todo's but nearer

the caboose. after reading the recent stanford fibro study, I felt like a fairy

god-mother had just shown me a sign and I quickly advanced ldn to my forward

position.

I started dosing at night as per instructions at 4.5:

night 1- anxiety attacks plus waking/sleep cycling, maybe 5 or 6 times.energy

level very good next day considering. normal pain problems

night 2- my typical lyme-night of waking about 4am to pee usually with

difficulty resuming sleep. energy level good following day. pain not improved

nights 3 & 4- slept 8 hrs straight. pain much improved. energy better. called

other lymies to alert them of progress

nights 5-8- same as night 2.

so I'm basically at the beginning. I think I'm beginning to sense that my 4.5

dose might be too high at the onset since I'm awakening when I believe my

endorphin production is really kicking in and thereby encouraging wakefulness.

but I had those 2 good nights which I , of course, would like to replicate

consistently. also, after reading the posts for a bit, I'm aware that the ol'

bod needs a bit of time to acclimate to the dosing so I'm thinking maybe hang in

there for another week or so and see how that goes. hmmm....

well, I'm thinking nuala that I too will reduce my dose to 3 for a bit and see

how that goes.there's really no downside that I fathom. I see that without a

full night of sleep my pain load isn't getting reduced and that's my initial and

primary goal .

hope I've been of help

Sounds like you are a good candidate to start LDN slowly.

1.5mgs the first month, if there aren't any problems go to 3mgs the second, then

try 4.5mgs the third month.

Get your prescription written for 1.5mgs capsules then you can adjust and go up

as slow or fast as you want.

4.5mgs is probably too much for you to start on.

Start at 1.5mgs then increase dose as your body allows.

There are a lot of different ways/reasons to be overweight. If a person is overweight because of hypothyroid issues, she has a good chance of losing weight on the iodine protocol, because the iodine helps the thyroid function better. The companion nutrients are about addressing detox issues. Just make sure you do not start her out on iodine alone, because that seems to be where people have the most problems. So far, the consensus seems to be that if you gain weight on the iodine protocol, your body is overwhelmed by toxins, & the way to address that seems to be a liver cleanse, or at least substantial liver support, along with general detox support. That sort of weight gain is about your body trying to trap the toxins, so you address it by trying to get rid of the toxins. So the best hedge against weight gain is to do a liver cleanse, take liver support herbs, drink lots of water, keep the bowels moving, & detox with FIR saunas or detox baths or anything else that promotes detox. There are a LOT of folks on this list, & I don't think anybody knows what per centage of them have gained instead of losing. However, people who are unhappy are more likely to post about it, so that would tend to skew the emails, I think. People are most likely to post when they feel they have a problem. As to predicting the future weight of a single individual, there are an awful lot of variables.AnneOn Nov 14, 2010, at 2:56 PM, Amy wrote: OK, so my partner is starting taking iodoral in the next few days. Just wanted to get a sense of people's experiences when they started. Getting a bit worried that she'll have some big detox issues. Do most people experience much of a detox, or do many people not experience this? Also a bit confused about the weight gain. Lots of sites talk about iodine as being good for weight loss, but many here seem to gain. Do you think this is the most common response, or do most people lose or stay the same? Also - people who started on iodine and found they couldn't take it (eg. some with hashi's). Do things return to normal once off the iodine again? Just a bit worried. My partner has made really good gains with health so far. This seems like the right next step, but also a bit nervous. Thanks!
